Rivers of America concept art revealed

This northern section of the river is what's going away, to be replaced by a tighter S curve with the train trestles and waterfalls before curving towards the new Indian Village. And in my opinion it was the most boring and most pointless portion of the trip.

That Indian Chief is featured on the new WDI artwork, between the trestle and the river on a more prominent rocky ledge.

The trestles look like a grander and more finely designed version of this old Disneyland classic that was along the river from 1960 to 1998; Cascade Peak. Imagineering is MUCH better in the 21st century at doing big rockwork (See: Cars Land, 2012), so the new rocks and waterfalls and trestles won't look as clumsy as this 1960 feature did. This photo is from 1996.

How many young'uns here even knew Cascade Peak and its famous "Twin Sister Falls" was even a thing that got torn down almost 20 years ago in '98?
Wasn't Cascade Peak removed so they could get better sight lines for the proposed Geyser Mountain that was going to be put in Hunchback festival area?

I remember Cascade Peak, surprisingly. It was one of the little things.

I am not sure if this has been addressed here or not, but the closure of the Big Thunder Trail make me wonder what they will do about crowd control. On Sunday evening, I was trying to get to Main Street from Toontown Station. However, the parade route kept me from crossing over towards Tomorrowland, and Fantasyland’s closure for the fireworks forced me to take the Thunder Trail to Frontierland just to get back to Main Street. How will they handle crowds without being able to force people out through Frontierland?

Basically it's going to be a mess until SW Land opens, and then it will be an even bigger mess until the newness of SW Land wears off. This makes me wonder if there's a long term plan to address DL's aging traffic flow issues. They added the alleyway behind Main Street recently to help relieve congestion there on busy days and the overpass from Adventureland to NOS was built to manage Fantasmic crowds back in the 90s. Those seem more like band-aids in comparison to the huge problems caused by the year-round overcrowding the park deals with now, which will surely get worse in a few years.

Agreed. I'm concerned that the viewer isn't standing at some imaginary point above Tom Sawyer island, but instead is standing on the balcony above POTC. That would be a very small RoA.
A guy in the micechat thread did an overlay of the art on google map and it's a perfect fit. And it's quite the amputation

Curious to see what his version came out. Obviously it's a bit impossible to do this with concept art as who knows how true to the end result it will be, but this is where I netted out with my stab at it...

Here's the fan mock-up I was referring to that shows before and after. This suggests a much more dramatic reduction than the image in the MiceAge discussion thread.

I was thinking the same thing. This seems like a much more dramatic difference than they are currently guessing. I think at some point we need to realize that regardless of what changes actually occur, no matter how dramatic or slight, no matter if it looks worse or better, some point are just not going to like any change because they don't want to see any changes to certain areas of the park and they don't want Star Wars to be in Disneyland period. It is what it is, I suppose.
