NEW YORK (AP) -- The family of Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of such historic and prehistoric science fantasies as "Jurassic Park," "Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," says the author has died in Los Angeles.
Crichton died Tuesday at age 66. He had been privately battling cancer, his family said.
"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement.

I read most of his books back in High School and loved every one of them that I read. I'm going to miss his style. I will also say, if you haven't read his book "Travels," which is actually an autobiography of sorts, I would highly suggest doing so. I found it interesting and entertaining.

The newspaper this morning said that he was in the middle of writing a new novel when he passed. Wonder if it was far enough along to publish, or what they'll do with that...

Definitely be missed. Have read most of his novels, Timeline was my favorite. Saw on Wikipedia his last novel is expected to be released in May of '09. I will be sure to pick it up to read one last book from one of my favorite authors...

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
What a crummy weekend this has been
Well, this sure ain't no E-ticket
Think I'll tell them where to stick it
'Cause I'm never coming back this way again
Oh no... oh no

Farewell Mike. You opened up my imagination in the right way at the right time. I will forever appreciate it.
