Ridemakerz (Virgin store - 1st floor)

All in good time. . .

We had the same store here in indiana at our biggest mall, basically it was the male targeted build a bear. It was hot and I mean hot for the first 2 months it opened and seemed to have it's peak at christmas, sad to say the store lasted only 6 months before closing. Is this a wise choice for disney? I guess as long as they fill the space and pay the rent.

I think this shop is a great idea, something to appeal to boys (of all ages really) who can resist having a race with your mates?

Will it definately be on the first floor and not the ground floor, seems strange to have to go in and go straight up stairs (Unless there are other plans for the ground floor).
Ground floor and first floor are fairly interchangeable for most people. I assumed it would be on the ground floor.

If it is just a shell over a motor, then that would be rather cheap, but if you can customize the wheels, fenders, and other parts then I think you would be good to go.

I'll be honest, and this isn't directed at you directly Evan, it's getting pretty tiring to see the knee jerk reaction to anything announced at DTD be negative.
Eh. I have no interest in that...I assume some would. If it's as you describe it, it's a average addition. Not bad, but not over the top, either.

I'm tired of nothing of real consequence being done in DTD...I don't find that to be knee jerk. Another store isn't exactly groundbreaking, which is what I think we all want to see.

How intricate will these cars be? Perhaps I'm over simplifying it?
Okay so I just took a look on line and if it is a fully stocked store your looking at thousands, if not millions, of combinations to make these unique.

Seems to be the knee jerk reaction to absolutely everything announced these days.
Yep.

I think that would make it an ideal place for Disney.

This isn't the type of store that would have repeat business. If you drop $30-$75 on an R/C car that is rechargable you aren't going to be rushing back to get a new one every few weeks.

DTD is a mall. It's always been a mall. It always will be a mall.

I think you are expecting something that DTD isn't designed to deliver.

Well, I do think it's too much of the same thing ie: come and custom build "x" but I'm sure it will be popular with those who can afford it.

What I do find funny/tragic/a head-scratcher is that nothing new has opened in Pleasure Island (that wasn't already planned like the tequila bar) in the year and a half since it closed suddenly.

They seem fond of replicating those, it must sell.

It still has this
Then what is all the complaining about?
Unique, themed clubs. I find that a little bit (Well, a lot, really) better.
Yeah, I know you have never been in the clubs.

Other than the AC, which is a loss, I'm not arguing that, the clubs were barely themed and in no way unique. Clubs are a dime a dozen all over the country. Nothing in the Disney clubs (other than the AC) made them special.

All the complaining is about the loss of the AC, which, you, too, seem to hold in high esteem.

I'll say it...PI needed to go. The Adventurers Club, however, could have eaisly been salvaged, and reused in a BOLD, NEW Concept. ;)

:brick::brick::brick: It just gets worse and worse. JT04's bold new vision for DTD continues!

More of the same.

Sure, it looks fun...but...

3rd party, it's a store, I honestly don't find it to be that "bold" or "new".

At least the Virgin facility is being used.

No something innovative.

It's not a unique experience, there are a handful of other ridemarkerz stores in the country (albeit not many,) it's like a build a bear for boys, or build your own lightsaber, muppet, princess crown, or potato head.

I don't like the idea. I won't set foot in it by choice. I think it's a waste of space, but I have the feeling that this will be attractive to a large segment of visitors.

And I have yet to find out what's going on with the rest of this large building.

Not a single one of these complaints has anything to do with AC.

DTD just doesn't interest me:shrug: If they want to attract more people there needs to be something more than just shopping and a neglected DQ.

The Adventurers Club was an established anchor to build upon. Comedy Warehouse probably could have stayed as well. From there, I don't know what you do, but Paradisio would have worked well with the 2 also.

Maybe expand the AC into BET to have a restaurant/dinner show?

Something could have been done to PI without foolishly closing everything at once without a clear plan to replace them. Much better than a shiny new restaurant surrounded by despair and a quirky/awesome looking building nextdoor.

Are you kidding? It has everything to do with it! Instead of that, we have this.

EXACTLY. Really take the PI/AC/SEA theme ALL around the Isle.

Just went through the website and looking at all the customization options (side pipes, running boards, body kits, neons, tons more) this store sounds pretty sweet. Expensive... but what at Disney isn't? I'll welcome it to DTD and see how it goes. If it only last a few months, it's better than having an empty building having people complain that nothing is in it. I hope it's up and running when I visit in June. I want to check it out.

As for PI, I agree it was a poor decision on Disney's part to close it down with very little warning. A wise decision would have included some kind of 6-month farewell celebration. I think a lot less people would be bitter if they would have been able to visit their favorite clubs one last time before they were gone. My g.f got to go to AC in 2008 but I was at a Devil Rays game and couldn't go. She said it was SO much fun and now I'll always be jealous of her being able to go and not me.:lol:

I still find it incredible that they closed businesses (that were by most accounts profitable) without having a firm plan in place and leases signed. They showed they could shut PI dow in a matter of weeks, so why not wait until they had firm commitments in place? And at that, they could've shut the bars down one by one as new retailers moved in. Now DTD sits at least 30% unoccupied with no revenue coming in from those properties.

Virgin was like heaven for me. I still get a little verklempt every time I pass by it and see it empty.

I don't see this concept lasting very long but it seems incredibly cool. My son will love it – my wallet, not so much. I only wish something larger and more impactful were coming to that building. It seems like a huge waste of space to me. With as large of a building as this is, maybe they'll put a Build-A-Bear in with it?

I also don't think the West Side is a very good location for something like this with it's lack of retail. Put this next to LEGO and you'd have a winner. OOOH! What if you built a car-themed restaurant (not Nascar) along with it!?
