Trip Report Return of the Noob......Fuzzy Memories part 2? Now Playing.

I know this is really delayed but I finally have my pics uploaded and soon enough this will begin. Just have been so worn out form work and trying to do projects and running to after school stuff not much time to just sit down and relax. Let alone try to compile 2000+ pics and videos. This TR will rely more on pics than video just because my upload speed is so slow.

Day 7 Magic Kingdom cont:

We get off SDMT and I see that because we were so late to this FP that my next planned FP was for Big Thunder we were not going to be able to make it back across the park so I reluctantly changed it to Pirates of the Caribbean. If I had just stuck to the original plan this would not have been an issue. If we could have made EMH this might not have been an issue.

We decide it was time to get a snack. The sun was beating down and it was very muggy. So we slip into a very crowded Gastons Tavern. The girls see that Gaston is doing a meet and greet and leave me behind to try to manage getting an order and a table. They did have two large drink dispensers with ice water so you could just refill what ever you had with cold water instead of waiting in line.

Meanwhile I get my order and realize that I need an extra hand. It was a chore to carry 2 drinks and a cinnamon roll. Surprise no tables available. Why build a place that you know is going to be popular so small? So I used the much beloved method of fine dining in Disney World.
DSC00856 by Uncle Lupe, on Flickr

I had to use a trash can while I waited like a vulture for a table to open. When one does me and a little girl both sit down across from each other and this awkward Seinfeld moment of who would leave. Neither of us budged. I figured I had better make small talk before I get accused of something and ask if I can share this table while I wait for my party who was outside. She agreed and we began so share our stories of our trips. Her family was from New York, which I met a few minutes later and we both agreed that this place was to small. I was amused by their accents as they probably were at mine.

Now that Gaston has made the girls swoon and we had some light snacks we are still waiting for our lunch reservation. So we head back over to Liberty Square to kill some time. This time I made sure we had enough time to kill and we go for a ride on the Haunted Mansion.

The children had no interest in this ride it was something for the adults. While in line a local man tried to help alleviate the girls worries by chatting us up and telling them that there is nothing scary in there. We talked about our trip how he has the advantage of coming here all the time so he can just go with the flow on lines. He asked about our trip and we discussed some of our troubles. He suggested that I stop at City Hall and at least let them know about the difficulties that we have had. "Maybe they do nothing maybe they give you a FP or something." Now it was time to start our adventure and the kids were scared there was no way of helping that. People were pushing to get out of the stretching room and it was hard to stay together as a group.

The ride was fun for the adults. I could here the cries of, "I'm scared". I said, "Just close you eyes and it will be all over soon but you are missing some neat stuff." As luck would have it the ride stops. We had just started to turn left out of the ballroom scene but could still see it some and we were sitting in the pitch black darkness. Heather and Jordynn we stuck right at the end of it and had a great view. We sat there for a few minutes as we waited for the spirits to let our journey continue. The ride starts again and we finish without any other delay.

After we leave the kids still did not like the ride but I explain how lucky they were to get stuck at the ballroom scene. "People would pay good money to have that happen to them." Still, they want nothing to do with that ride for the rest of the trip.

Thanks to my not so excellent planning it was time to cross the park again and head to Be Our Guest for lunch. We get there a little early to check in so we try to beat the heat. This was the only shade close that we found.

The ordering process with the dining plan was a little clunky. I did not know what I was doing and the person helping me was brand new so it took much longer than it should. I ordered the meals but it was charging for items and not picking up the dining plan. The cast member helped me fix it but it took him a few attempts to get it right so I didn't feel too stupid.

Meanwhile Heather was done and Katie was waiting with the kids as I catch up to the group at the Ballroom entrance. I asked, "Why didn't you get a table yet?" I was told, "You had planned this entire trip. Plus the work of getting these reservations and we wanted to wait for you so we could see the reactions and Ballroom together." Well that made me feel special.

As far as Be Our Guest is concerned we really enjoyed our experience. It is an amazing setting with what I considered good food. If this is a downgrade from the original offering then I must have missed something truly amazing.

We leave the AC wonder that is this restaurant and back into the blazing sun. Looking for relief we stop in Fantasyland and see Peter Pan. I wanted a quick pic as we leave and promise to never grow up. Our best Pan pose.

Kids were not impressed with this show. But compared to what they have seen this past week this is a tough sell.

As we continue our wild west tour we get back to BTMRR. So this day is now back where is started. We enter the line but I could see clouds forming and everything was turning grey in the MK area. It was 35 minute wait and I kept watching the weather radar and outside to see if we were going to be able to ride this at all. We would wait and if not we would move on to something else.

The wait time was fairly accurate and as we were the second group waiting to load the heavens open up and a deluge begins. A "gully washer" is a more colloquial term you could use. However there was no lightning. At this point the next train pulls up and now we are next to load. I start telling everybody how lucky we are to be riding this in the rain! "Just think you couldn't time something like this if you tried. To be at this exact moment and to be able to say you rode BTMRR in the rain." The lady in the train that just loaded did not have the same excitement level that I did about riding in the rain. Kinda gave me a dirty look as she was not amused at my exuberance. Oh well! She was going to get wet also and I waved bye.

But I did have a problem. The cameras and phone needed protected. I had them in the waist pack and as we loaded into the next train the rain continued. So I just used my shirt as a layer of waterproofing and used my hands as a shield to keep as much water from direct contact with the pack and away we went.

This ride is normal until you reach the top of the first hill and out in the rain you are. There was nothing to do but accept it once you are over the initial shock and enjoy the ride. I thought it was so much fun. Everyone had different reactions but our group had a blast. If you ever get a chance to do this I suggest it as a Disney must do. You get pelleted by the rain but it brings a new experience to a classic ride.
We got back to the station and you have no choice but to get back into the rain to try to find shelter.

We duck into the Splash Mountain gift shop which is completely packed. Heather decides this would make a great selfie.

After a few minutes of trying to wait out the rain we just continue on like nothing was wrong. We are already this soaked so what is a little more rain. Now we are in Adventureland and find that the Jungle Cruise is back open for business. You would never had known because it has been shut down for a week and the first day it was open you would think it would be packed. But what a wonder a little rain can do for your wait times.

5 minute wait for the just reopened Jungle Cruise? Yes please!

Had a lot of fun the the cruise but the water was still very cloudy, very brown. We already had wet backsides and it rained the entire time but it was a gentle rain at this point. With the rain continuing I had to keep the camera put away so pics and my memory are getting a little light.

Enjoy our lunch and tour of Be Our Guest and if you listen closely you can hear me singing some improv lines.

The kids enjoyed the Jungle Cruise and we continued to stroll in the sprinkling rain and use dour last FP for Pirates of the Caribbean.

This time around the Photopass was not working but we enjoyed our adventure. Allison even liked it this time as she actually looked at the scenes. Who knew you could enjoy a ride by looking and not closing your eyes.

I'm gonna throw this in here because I do not remember when it happened but I remember the conversation with my riding partner. We are still wet so I feel it was right after Pirates as we were still walking in the light sprinkles before that ride but it was clear afterword.

We managed to get one more ride on SDMT

My partner said he like to get his buddies all in one car and they really lean into the turns to get the train rocking. He was going to do it this time but didn't want to scare the kids. I told him that we should have done that it would have been fun.

Now it was time to leave because the park was closing early for the MNSSHP. As we started to leave the feelings of disappointment and the encouragement of the locals started to reverberate in my head. I decided to stop and let my voice be heard at City Hall. Maybe it was a mistake but I had to get things off my chest from the entire week.

The thoughts of the girls being upset welled inside me as I was directed to a Customer Service CM. Now as I state my case I begin to lose control of my emotions. When I get really mad I cry. As I explain the situations of the week I am crying this entire time and trying not to make a big scene. At least not a Griswold Christmas vacation size tirade. As I struggle to quell my emotions I explain the ride problems at Epcot with TT. Then Hollywood Studios with two of the rides going down as soon as the park opened. The overcrowded Halloween party and the problems with SDMT. I tell her I understand some of the problems may be from the hurricane holdovers but not that many people. "You guys have oversold these parties that are sold as exclusive events. We didn't have this problem 6 years ago. We were able to do all sorts of things but now it was just wall to wall people." "I wanted my guests to have the same experience that we had and it was a disaster." I continue about EMH problems with no bus's coming to our resort today.

So, here I am a grown man crying and getting very mad in the Magic Kingdom. I think I took her by shock with the out pouring of emotion. We have to work and save a long time for these vacations and the prices have increased and the offering have gone down. I said, "I will never pay for another party again, never."

She takes my info and my ramblings and apologizes for the problems on our trip. At first I am offered 3 FP's for today. The park was only open for one more hour but we could use them anywhere in the park. Also given 3 FPs for tomorrow for any park. I tell her that is generous considering the amount of time we were in Epcot and didn't get to ride Test Track. I thanked her but said, "The extra FP's did not replace the lost experiences that I paid to have for my family and guests." "On top of staying on property, paying for park hopper tickets, we payed extra for party tickets at an additional $450." It was at this time that Heather learned that we paid for their party tickets also and she was going to give me money on the spot. "No. That was our gift to you two for coming along this trip with us." We wanted you to have all the fun that we had years ago but it was not a good night."

The CM kinda got this look in her eye and asked, "What if I could get you into tonight's party? Would you want to go?" I was taken back and said, "It's up to the kids. We have been going nonstop all day in the heat and rain since 9am."

The children were waiting outside with Katie. She was worried about my blood pressure. Allison was trying to understand why daddy was crying while talking to the lady. As they all come inside the kids agreed happily and were overjoyed to get to go to this party tonight.

As we left City Hall we were all given party bands and had 3 anytime FP's for the last hour the park was open. 3 anytime FP's for tomorrow plus out regular FP's I had already planned for our last day. Giving us 6 total Fp's for Saturday. But first we had less than 1 hour to use 3 Fast Passes what are we going to do first.

My family all gave me a group hug and told me thank you for going on that emotional roller coaster. Also for sticking up for myself for a change. Katie told me to let it go and she was proud and wanted me to get in a happy mood. So that we could have some fun.

I often just let things go as I work customer service and don't want to make a fuss of things. I am not proud or happy about having a break down at the Magic Kingdom. I didn't demand for anything. But I felt better saying what I felt needed to be said about price increases, ride problems, over crowding and so on. I like to think all the frustrated WDW Magic members were there in spirit.

Day 7 MK cont:

So after my emotional time at City Hall we stopped to get our bands for tonight's party and were directed across Main Street to the party entrance. Katie still doing what she can to calm me down and reassure me that I did the right thing to get things out and not let them build up inside. We grabbed our new treat bags and headed off with a renewed feeling of adventure.

We still have those 3 anytime FP's to use in the next hour or lose them so as a group decide to try the 3 mountain challenge. Splash still under refurbishment so this would work out perfectly with the time we had left.

First up we speed walk to Space Mountain. I anxiously watch as the kids tap their bands. I hoped that the FP's were on the bands as we did not have time to go back to City Hall to correct any problems. The Mickey heads turn green and we are go for launch. Don't forget we are still doing the slow side remember. Thank goodness we conquered that fear earlier in the trip.

I tried to pose but the camera was on the wrong side. Noob mistake.

With a quick trip to space and back we quickly headed to our next adventure. Seven Dwarf Mine Train.

Tap again and the band reader lights green and we are off again.

Look! This time I get to sit with my daughter for a change. So I put my hands up and party on the Dwarf Train.

Now with 2 mountains down we again walk briskly all the way across the park to make it to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Tap again and I see green, green, green. Let's go! We again enjoy this trip and by this time any stress of what had happened earlier had long left my thoughts and I was just having fun.

With the challenge completed I look at the time and we had rode all three mountains available in just 45 minutes. Yes! 45 minutes and we had been on 3 big attractions. Wow! That may never happen again.

By this time the party had started and the special characters were out starting their meet and greets. Having already seen the shows and fireworks we focused this bonus night on characters, candy and rides.

We are in Adventureland and we see Jafar. On our last trip Allison was little and wanted nothing to do with him so I went first to ham it up. I tell him that he would make an excellent sultan. He seemed pleased.

Day 7 MK cont:

After Jafar we decide to see more characters. Heather wants to see Cruella De Ville and I knew that Katie wanted the Dwarfs so we head back to Fantasyland because lucky for us they were all in the same general area.

On the way we go to the backside of SDMT and at the end of Ariels Grotto something weird catches my eye. It is a magic shot sort of sorts.

I see Photopass and just tell the group to get into line. I can't explain why but just do it. As I watched people before us go I see the photographer start the picture. Next, a CM walks behind the tourist with an LED lightbar attached to a rolling stand. It is flashing an array of patterns as he walks across the picture. Then the camera flashes and the picture is complete. Watching this happen over and over I think that @fractal would love to have seen this but I did not have time to tape the happenings.

I realize that there is a 5 second delay on the shutter and instruct the kids to stay still until the flash goes off so we don't ruin the picture. I don't know what the effect is but staying still is crucial with a long exposure shot.

Here is what showed up a few minutes later in the app. I thought it was pretty cool.

You really don't "meet" these characters as much as you just get a picture and file out. But still fun and you can only get this picture on these party nights.

Now it was time to meet Cruella. We had to wait for her to return from the parade but once she was here the line moved failry quick. I took the time to relearn the Cruella De Ville song.

Heather and Jordynn go first.

Pretty cool photo by the Photopass photographer. I'm guessing he had the shot severely underexposed so that only the lighted skeletons showed up, then once the guy moving that effect passed, the flash went off and exposed your family and the fence behind you. Nice! Thanks for sharing that.

Jack and Sally play the parts well. As they take breaks Jack has these very exaggerated steps to and from the picture location. It was a fun end to a night filled with renewed spirit.

I do have in my notes that we rode Peter Pan and got to play in the interactive queue some more but no pics. The Dwarf Train went down during this party also. The park was not nearly as crowded on this Friday night as compared to Tuesday night. :banghead:??? We went back to the room completely exhausted and ready for a shower.

Day 8 Magic Kingdom

Even with a late and crazy day in the books it was shortly time again to rise and meet this day. It would be our last day and we were going to spend this day at the Magic Kingdom. As we get ready to leave I find mail on our door. That is never a good thing to find I shouldn't have mail on vacation.

Day 8 MK cont:

We push against the crowd to get to the beginning of Main Street. To make the trip easier I guide the group into the Emporium. About half way I see something that stops me in my tracks sitting behind the counter. There were 4 pairs of Rose Gold Ears behind the desk on display. I run over and ask if those are for sale and was told yes. After a split second of thinking I buy all 4 and start to make some frantic calls and text messages. I was buying them for other relatives not to resell. It was the only thing I was really watching for souvenir wise this trip.

I thought I had accomplished the impossible. When I enter the next section and see and entire floor display full of glittering rose ears. People we grabbing handfuls, armfuls. I saw one lady take a bag of them from a CM, take a few out and then took the entire bag. Now these things are $25 a piece and people were just getting so many.

I am trying to figure out how many to buy but I was also getting swept up in the just grab them pandemonium. I need at least 4 total so I grabbed 4 more and just hoped it would be enough. So after dropping $200 plus on ears I left feeling like I was amazing.

I left to catch up to the group at the Chip and Dale meet and greet. I get a call back and I only needed to get 6 total to satisfy our needs. So I was able to gift one to each niece, Allison, Jordynn and still have one left over. Which is still in my closet but now you can find them everywhere on property.

Girls were excited about the ears and I had a death grip on the bag with the rosy treasures.
