I have a week long trip planned in January and I want to try some of the restaurants in the resorts. The only one that I have been to is Chef Mickey's and I loved it. I have pretty much eaten at all of the restaurants in the parks, but I want to try something new. I have been told to try the clam bake at the Beach Club Resort and Ohana's. Any other suggestion's?????

Sorry I forgot to answer your question. I will have my car, but I will be using the buses. I think its easier that driving myself.

I usually solve the what restaurant is in what park (or what do we need to be near) by getting park hoppers. Up until this last trip we never made ADR's just went with the flow. We are not schedule type of people so that works best for us.
And we use our car if we are going to be out late because fighting for those last bus seats bites.

1.) Jiko's- for something out of the ordinary. Cool ambience too!
2.) Artists Point- pork chop and blue cheese macaroni. :slurp:
3.) Fultons at Downtown Disney- best crab and super attentive staff
4.) California Grill- especially during the fireworks...makes it so special
5.) Dinner shows are also fun like the Spirit of Aloha luau at the Poly or the Hoopty Du Review at Fort Wilderness.

Hope this helps!

You must be reading my mind. At this moment, I am looking at the Disney website, at the calender seeing the times and the EMH, trying to figure out which park I will be in that day to plan which restaurant I will go to.

So far these are the restaurants that are on the top of my list to visit:
Cape May Cafe
Yachstman Steakhouse
Boma
California Grill
Ohana
Whispering Canyon

I'm one of the few people who will say this. I do not care for Boma. It was not the worst meal ever, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. I'm a big veggie eater and I felt the veggie selection was rather limited. My husband liked all of the meat at Boma but felt other buffets had more variety. I will say that Boma had the best coffee in WDW and one of the best desserts - the Zebra Dome. Yummy!
The only restaurant I would absolutely 100% avoid is The Garden Grill. The food was okay, but our service was so horrible that I just have a bad taste in my mouth for that place. You may go there and have a wonderful experience.

Agreed! I always put that ahead of California Grill. Much more quiet, different menu (love that bison)

Also like Citrico's, Narcoossee's and Flying Fish

Just in case you aren't using it already, referencing the menu's always helps me decide:

I also second the idea of Hoop de Do Review, always a fun evening!

Thanks for the link. I just read the menu for Artist Point and it looks delicious. I am now adding this to my list of possibilities.

The only restaurant that I am still not sure of is Boma. Both of us are not fans of spicy foods, and it looks like there are many items on the menu that are spicy. Help!!!

The food at Boma's is not a "hot" spicy so you will be fine. Most of the food there is pretty normal with a few unique dishes thrown in. If you go there for dinner the Zebra domes alone are worth the price.

Agreed, not the same kind of "spicy" you may be thinking of. The spices in some of the specialty dishes in Boma remind me of the spices used in the restaurants in Morocco. Plus, to be honest, I'm not a big fan of Marrakesh or the CS in Morocco, but I still enjoyed Boma very much, it's got the same flavors of Africa in certain dishes, only done better IMO. There are also traditional choices, so you won't leave hungry either way.

I would characterize Boma's food as "seasoned" vs. "spicy". It does have some seasonings in it that are uncommon in North America, but it isn't spicy hot.

Regarding AP vs. California Grill, I've always preferred CG because of the view. The food at both is very good.

I just noticed that your trip is within days! You may want to do a discovery call as soon as possible to see if all of your choices are still available, as booking began for your dates 6 months in advance.

Hurry! I'm gonna worry now

Correct. Curry seems to feature prominently which has more of a smokey flavor.

I have eaten at the new Tusker House and I enjoyed it very much. If it is anything like that I will definitely love it.

I am almost finished making my ADR's for my trip. I will post the restaurants that I have picked as soon as I am done.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions

Cape May is indeed very good. I'd also suggest Boma at AKL for something different, as well as Whispering Canyon at WL.

Honestly, there are a whole bunch of great places to try in the resorts! It's hard to name just a couple!

For steak... Yachtsman Steakhouse at YC is great
for seafood... Flying Fish at BW or Fulton's :)slurp:) at DTD
for unique dining choices... Jiko at AKL or Artist Point at WL
for possible fireworks with great food... California Grill at CR or Narcoossee's at GF

sheesh I'm getting really hungry now :slurp:

I think this sums it up best....these would be my recommendations....

One overlooked and underrated restaurant is The Maya Grill at Coronado Springs. It's very quiet and calm. I enjoy the food. I actually consider it some of the best at WDW.

I have finished making all of my ADR's and here they are :slurp: :

Yak & Yeti (the only park restaurant picked, because it's new and I have been dying to try it)
California Grill
Ohana
Cape May Cafe
Boma
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Fulton's Crab House
Chef Mickey's

OK, just one last question. When I made the ADR's for the California Grill and the Yachtsman Steakhouse, I was told that there is a "dress code". No hats, tank tops, bathing suits, etc. They said jeans were ok, just as long as they are not torn and look nice. How do people go dressed to these two restaurants? I don't want to go over or under dressed.

Signature restaurants have a dress code of "business casual". Nice clean jeans (no tears), khakis or Docker style pants and a polo or button down shirt for the men and jeans, dress pants, khakis, skirt or dress and a polo or blouse for the women. While clean tee shirts with no objectionable sayings are now ok, I personally wouldn't wear one. No flip flops or extremely worn sneakers. Most people opt for the khaki/polo option, but I have seen people dressed up even more.

As for Boma, almost every dish you come across is something that you will recognize by a different name. The spices are savory, not hot and along the lines of cinnamon, nutmeg, tumeric and the like...things we may not usually use with meats and veggies. I have a family of picky eaters and they loved the place and can't wait to return.

On your list about the only one I would rethink is Yak and Yeti. I am a pretty easy to please guy and I was not thrilled with the place. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was great but the food wasn't any better than your average Chinese take out and the price was absolutely brutal. Lunch for 6 adults and 1 child cost over $200 before tip and no one drank any alcohol.

First let me say this was mostly my husbands idea to go. And since it is a new place, I am curious to see it. I read the menu for the Yak & Yeti and I agree with you that it looks like the menu from a Chinese take out restaurant. But with all the hype of this restaurant of when it was being built. All of the pics and the weekly updates, I have to try it at least once. If it doesn't float my boat, then it will be my last time also.

I was at Ohana's last Thursday...the worst service possible! After sitting with no food and s__________g on ice cubes and a five year old for 20 minutes the server came to ask me for if I was ready for steak and pork and I was ready for my check at this point. This was after they refused to peel the shrimp for my daughter bc it was against their policy..c'mon you cook the stuff! I only asked for someone to peel 3 pieces. (the dilememma was that they were big looked like they tasted incredible, but I have a fetish about peel and eat shrimp bc the legs make them look like centipedes.)

8 days at Disney World with the dining plan and that was the only negative service. I highly recommend 1900 Park Fare. The food is incredible and service was extremely good.
