I'm from Germany and I usually read and post in a quiete nice German forum. I was also visiting disboards, but I like it here much more. Here are the people friendlier and the language the posters use is easier for me to understand.

Herzlich Wilkommen!

(I hope I spelled that correctly. It's been a long time since I took German classes in high school!) :)

This community feels more like Disney family to me. Do we disagree sometimes? Yes. But that is what family is about - we agree to disagree...most times politely with the utmost P.C. Some times it gets a little out of hand but we kiss and make up...:D Besides, hands down this forum has the most knowledgeable, well thought Disney people and info around...no doubt about it! And I must add integrity also.

Firstly, I do post on the Disboards, but I got sucked in through their Cake Chatter...so that's the big reason I go over there. While many people on here ask "how" when it comes to fancy WDW cakes, a lot of people over there ask "what." So, I will often pop in over there to give people cake design ideas if I can help. I will often play around in the restaurant area and post a little after giving cake suggestions. If you see me over there, I'm TiggerTrigger.

Still, I MUCH prefer the conversation over here. Disboards is a forum whereas WDWMagic is a community :) I also would agree that things are not as friendly over there. And it is correct that the mods get pretty nasty if there's any back talk or disagreement. There's actually one member I've dubbed "THE HAG" b/c that's just what she is. She's a nasty troll with nearly 13K posts. She had the nerve to suggest my children had some kind of mental defect because they believed the characters and effects were real...happened about a year ago...and as a result, I no longer post in any section on the DIS except for the restaurants area. Life is too short to have to voluntarily deal with hags. ;)
Oh! Now I know who's brain to pick for my DD's birthday cake!

Comparing here to Dis is like comparing apples and oranges. They are 2 different "worlds". The way I like to look at it is that Dis is like your lecture halls and Magic is like the dorms. If you have a question or are looking for specific info, I do think Dis does a better job. But, if you are just looking to chill and chat Disney, Magic is superior. As just about everyone else has said, there is far and away a better sence of community here.

I looked at other sites, but this is where I made my home. Only post here and only belong here. Great info and responses from the whole community. No matter what the topic is, it's always interesting, even the ones that get locked with bashing, that becomes entertainment sometimes. We all have questions and opinions, and it is welcomed here. Heck, I even started a tread within the past month and got ripped, but who cares, I got input that was relevant, and that is what it is all about. Freedom to WDWMagic boards.

Wow I can't agree more with what has been said. This is an awesome community and so far I've seen nothing but friendly posters who assume the best of each-other.

I have a confession: I was banned from DIS, well suspended or some non-sense. All I did was respond to someone who was teasing me about my resort choice struggles incessantly by asking them to stop of private message me instead. I felt like I was "on eggshells" if I didn't say things exactly the right way or if I expressed an opinion.

Anyhow, you guys are all great and I have been able to learn so much here! Here's to keeping positive and helping one another enjoy the magic of disney =)

That is precisely what I was talking about. That site feels like a totalitarian society. You aren't allowed to disagree with anyone that has time under their belt and you have to just sit back and take any crap they toss at you without responding, at all. My big blow up with them came when I simply asked how the dates for the MNNSSHP were obtained for 2005 as early as November 3rd in 2004. Yeah, that's right, in November of 2004 they had "confirmed" dates for both the MNSSHP and MVMCP. o_O All I did was ask how they got them so early since it was almost certain that Disney themselves did not have the dates hammered out yet. I was blasted from all sides. Posters were yelling at me that DIS has "inside" people that get them the information and I shouldn't question them, ever. I had people yelling at me that I was just trying to stir things up. and there were even people saying that I was sending them threatening PM's despite the fact that I never once sent a single PM, at all, my entire (short) time there. I told one mod, who is from Texas so if you go there you know who I am talking about, that she needed to get off her high horse and just give a real answer. In the end it had gotten so far out of control that all I wanted was the truth, but of course that was never going to happen. I wanted her to admit that they made up the dates based on a best guess. That would have been perfectly fine if she had just admitted it. What was really hysterical was that I was not mad, or even yelling at anyone. I just asked a few questions about the dates and all hell broke loose. The most hysterical thing of all was that around May of 2005, their party dates all mysteriously changed to the correct dates that Disney released to the public, on the same day that Disney released them to the public.

I hear you. Forums seem to function well when people assume the best intentions in others and feel the freedom to express an opinion even if it isn't popular. Besides, most of us are here for information and to have fun- not to earn some kind of title or reputation (when I see people with 18,000 posts in two years I kinda question their sanity anyhow =p)

I know what you mean. I've seen people post inane things like "I totally agree. The OP is correct. " just to bump up their post count. That OP didn't need confirmation that they were correct. lol

I totally agree @G00fyDad! LOL (sorry had to say that) I have answered posts with *I totally agree* but not to bump up my post numbers, just because I did agree with posts. :) I think @HouCuseChickie said it best, Dis is a forum, wdwmagic is a community. There have been many times we all agree to disagree, and maybe even learn something. I will say, all of the recommendations I have received here on wdwmagic, regarding just about every aspect of our Disney vacation, was spot on, and never regretted my final choices. We all just keep passing the magic to every member we can :)

I always assumed the D before DD, DS, DH, DW meant...Disney.

E.g. Disney Daughter, Disney Son, Disney Husband, Disney Wife.

But, Dear works as well...

It is used on other forums besides Disney forums. In that context Disney would make no sense, ergo Dear it must be. Personaly I find it to be annoying, but I am not going ot fault anyone for using it.

For the OP. These forums are like many other forums (Disney and otherwise). There are normaly a "core" group of users who post a lot. Over time that core group changes (I have seen it happen here, there are a few past heavy posters who seem to have drifted away and then others have come in). In addition to the core group, there are the people who lurk, or post and handfull of times, or pop in and out. Those are the dynamics of most forums (and groups in general, electronic or flesh and blood). WDWMagic seems to be getting its share of traffic and it is a well run and well moderated forum (if my opinion counts for anything)

Ya know what Shookie, we are of the same mind set. I dont mean to down any site, but wdwmagic is the best I have ever found, and yes, there are alot of us who post daily (personally, I post here more than on facebook) and we do have alot of members who (as much as I hate the terminology) *lurk*, which is fine :) We all hope the info they need, all members find our experiences and opinions, helpful.

I agree wholeheartedly. In fact, I don't even use my facebook account - like EVER! But I'm here every weekday and occasionally on a weekend.

So, the OP is saying that my sage advice and timely humor is not enough? Too much rsoxguy?
That does it, I'm getting me some real life friends.

I lurked there for a while and eventually posted over there once and never even got a "Hi, howdy do" back. I left there, came here and have never looked back. The people here are a lot more friendly and helpful.
