Report Fresh from Epcot's 25th

The line for the Pin Station was huge all day, a joke in the morning. I'm not going to go into a diatribe about pins and all, I'm just glad I have no interest in them. Saves me much time and $$$ and standing in line at the parks.

The wife and I always joke that alot of those "pinners" care more about pins than going on rides, or so it seems :)

NYE December 31, 2006 was the 80k day. It was wall-to-wall people and wall-to-wall complaining.

I was busy not complaining, but rather taking yet another of my famous naps - i think inside of the hallway where the Epcot 25 gallery now is. Them benches are well padded.

I was there that day and you could definitely tell that it was 80k.
Hmm, I wonder if it was one of the largest crowds ever? I know Millennium probably had more.

We're thinking of doing Epcot for NYE again this year. It was worth enduring the crowds and madness, we got to ride everything without any lines in the morning anyways since we got there at opening and Illuminations was great! Later on in the day the crowds were unbearable (there was a line to get to the line of Soarin that we had to wait in to reach the Garden Grill for our reservation).

How are the crowds today? Thanks for the report!

Merf and xstech, why aren't you two still there?! I know if I had the opportunity, I would not miss a moment of EPCOT's big day.

Hehe, someone going to radio-in that they're spotted a blue badge holding plans for Imagination and i need to be there for photos stat?

Or that a bench has been repainted or something equally monumental. Never know how being able to get to EPCOT within 10 minutes will pay off!

Tht said, you remined me: They repainted the mister-awning thingy over by energy. It ws always blue, but they yanked out its purple neighbor and repainted the remaining one blue with silver accents - so a different color scheme. Seems to be the jist of the work in future world lately.

I've posted a video wrap-up of this morning's Epcot 25th Anniversary events, including rope drop, limited edition t-shirt buying, and the full re-dedication ceremony:

http://www.attractionsmagazine.com/video.php

We had exclusive video access to be on the OTHER side of the rope for rope drop, so you won't see that video anywhere else! It's quite a sight to see the crowds come rushing toward the fountain. :)

If anyone wants to hear my thoughts on the day (along with the NFFC meetings from the past few days), I'll have a complete summary on tomorrow's Inside the Magic podcast.

Enjoy!

Ugh that's so annoying about the shirts! Some people can't get there today, like me who flies in on Friday! I wish they had some more, I'm really upset about this.

I can't believe this wasn't announced today during the rededication.

In all seriousness though, are the Figment plushes actual plush, or are they oversized beanies? Also, do you (or does anyone) have a picture of the back of the plush. I don't get my plush and LE shirt until my buddy doing the CP comes up this weekend for homecoming. Suffice to say, I'm excited about getting my hands on my swag.

Thanks for the report, I'm really hoping to see some pictures from the day. And Ricky, I'm looking forward to hearing your summary of the day and thoughts on the festivities.

I finally finished downloading it, but it won't play. It gets about 4 seconds in (not past the title card), and then an error message pops up saying that there's been a "buffer overflow." It behaves approximately the same way in both iTunes and Quicktime. Both are fully updated (just today, in fact). Any suggestions?

I don't understand the limited edition shirt thing. You'd think Disney, being Disney, would want to sell as many of them as humanly possible. I mean, the shirt is awesome enough that it sells itself, limited or not.

CaptainHank, try using the VLC Media Player. I can't watch most high quality videos on Quicktime (and especially iTunes), but just about everything (except 1080P) will play on my computer using the VLC player.
