Renting A Car At A Resort

Has anyone rented a car at the front desk of a Disney resort? Seems like I have read this is possible in a guidebook somewhere, although I've never seen any evidence of car rentals at any Disney resort. We usually take the ME from the airport (just love how you are immersed in your Disney vacation right from the airport!) but are thinking we might like a car to go off site for a day. Hate to rent a car for our whole visit (6 days in August) when we only would use it one day! Thanks for any input!

There is a Enterprise rental desk at the Dolphin.

It's not the front desk, it is it's own desk, sort of tucked in the back of the lobby.

If you plan to rent there, call ahead. The supply of cars they have available is pretty random, and they can (and do) run out.

However, just about every rental agency has free shuttle service to the WDW resorts. You call them, they come and get you, take you to where their 'office' is - which very often is in the lobby of an off-site hotel, and give you your car. When you are done, you return it and they give you a ride back to your resort.

You can also rent from Enterprise at MCO and return it later at the Dolphin. I have done this many times, and it has never cost me any additional money. Some people have reported they have been charged a $10 - $20 fee for this. I never have.

The Dolphin resort has a car rental center inside of it. What I did on my last trip was took the bus to Hollywood Studios, then got on the boat there and took it right over to the Dolphin.

FYI, it's an Alamo station in the Dolphin.

Actually it's Alamo AND National.

I always get National and Enterprise mixed up National has the Emerald Aisle and Enterprise has that green 'e' logo. Damn color references.

But anyway. I have rented NATIONAL from MCO with a drop of at the Dolphin, for no extra charge.

but you should be able to get a free shuttle to the car care center from the resort.

Yes, that's right... I was just going to post the exact same thing.

You should go the front desk of your resort about 1/2 hour before you want to get the car and they will arrange the shuttle to come and pick you up!

You can book online through National and you can pick the Dolphin as one of the pick up locations. Although they will warn you (on the website) that that location keeps short hours but you can drop the car off with valet or something after hours!

From a link within that link, for people who hate links:
If you are staying at a Disney resort, the easiest option is to rent a car from the Walt Disney World Car Care Center, which is operated by Alamo and National. The Car Care Center offers a shuttle that will pick you up from any Disney hotel and take you to the Center to pick up your car. The shuttle will also drop you off at your Disney hotel after you return your car. If you wish, call the Car Care Center up to 24 hours in advance and arrange for them to send a shuttle for you. Alternatively, go to the front desk of your Disney resort about 30 minutes before your pickup time and ask them to call the Car Care Center shuttle. The phone number of the Car Care Center is (407) 824-3470.

I would shop around with all the major companies ... National, Alamo, and Enterprise are all on property. Hertz and Avis have offices on rt 192 just east of World Drive and all companies will pick you up and drop you off from your hotel, whether on or off property ... always remember to ask if there are any fees for this service as the car rental companies are attaching fees to just about everything they do, same as the airlines (was why I got out of the business after 17 years, they're "feeing" customers to death )

Yes, the desk is short, but for drop off's just pull up to the entrance, park down at the end, and hand the valet the keys. that works even during normal opening hours

I've used Alamo several times at the car care center.

Their shuttle will pick you up and drop you off at your resort.

Always had good clean vehicles and timely shuttle service.

We have done this twice and were very happy with the service. We called from the CBR, they sent a van to get us. We rented for 2 days, it was 80.00. No problems at all.
