Hi Everyone,

I am considering removing user post counts because we have some members posting "nothing/empty posts" just to get the post counts up there.

How would you feel about this? Yes, No or Dont Mind?

I have attached a poll where we can vote on this. I will go with the majority :)

Thanks!
:D

To be honest, Steve, I think since there are only a few guilty parties, just stripping them of their post counts could be effective. If they are spamming to see their name everywhere, the elimination of the post count won't help anyway--only closing the account will.

Doesn't matter to me either way, just thought I'd point that out... :)

I think you should remove them, they have no relevance other than it makes some people feel important for some weird reason

Am......I.....weird?:( lol I think removing the post counts would be effective against spammers......so....I wouldnt mind. There is one person in particular whos numer of posts per a day is just rediculous and if you look at his/hers posts theyre all repeating something or saying something useless. I think a fair warning to this person or ppl like this would get the point across. I'm not saying I'm totally inocent.......I mean I enjoy seeing my name pass others on the top 10 but i dont post just for the sake of my Pcount going up. So.............do what you think will work Steve...hope i could help.

I like the post count it keeps track og how many times I have posted. Maybe you can deleted threads or post that should not be in there or they just post to get a higher name or just make it so we have a post count and no one else can see.

I voted to remove the post count....probably out of curiousity to see if it stops or reduces the 'nonsense' posts...
Perhaps Steve could invest a few thousand dollars in software that could critique all posts and automatically eliminate the bull....
ah...let's see...that would put my post count at 23.

That might just motivate them to regain their former stature.

Though I don't personally pay much (if any) attention to the post counts, I would hate to see those who enjoy keeping track of their posts punished because a few people can't handle themselves. It would be nice if there could be a more precise penalty. But if that's not possible, then lets try eliminating the post count.

Something more drastic would be entertaining. Can we publicly humiliate them?

Steve, I request that you clear my post to zero. I have realized a long time ago that they do not mean a thing, and I am glad that this subject is finally being put into a legitimate poll.

P.S. Thank you Tramp for the inspiration:cool:

I agree, Herbie, on both counts. I think if someone is stripped of their post count and they continue, then their account should be closed. That, I think, would put an end to it. I don't think it's fair for everyone to lose because of the actions of a very few. For the most part, people around here get along and are well-behaved. :)

I voted to keep the post count. I have always found it handy to know how many posts I have, etc. People tend to use spam posts to improve their status, not their post count. Thus, I think that removing the status would be more effective than removing post count.

Just my two cents.:)

You wouldn't, Freak, because it's not meant to penalize you. ;)

[nice job, big guy...I think they might buy it :)]

Get rid of them!

I don't see the point especially when we have someone who gets to the point where he/she is submitting a new thread (which contains pictures already taken and shown by another member) in an obvious attempt to boost his/her post count.

Remove "their" counts, not ours... :(

Personally, I would like to see the post counts stay - I like to see how many someone's got when I'm reading what they've got to say - and it gives it some fun too!!

Why not just name and shame the guilty people and if they persist then warn / ban them?:)

I agree, it's pretty obvious who is posting empty nothings just to increase their count. They should be warned and if they persist deal with them individually.

I think banning "lame" posts will create more problems than it solves! How do we decide what is an "empty" post, and what is a real post? If someone new is posting about a topic that has been covered 100 times in the past, is it useless? If some members are posting a dialog back and forth in chit chat, is it a waste? If I post a comment that I believe is relevent, and you don't agree, should I be reprimanded? Not every post is going to be interesting to every other poster!
