Wannabe Walt, we're not really allowed to discuss religiouse things on the boards, although I'm not sure this would totally count, because all it is is asking what our religion is. Steve?

In lieu of "none", I picked other.

Interesting side story here - in the UK they do a detailed census every ten years. This includes asking what religion you are. A group of people mentioned that if enough people put down “Jedi” it would have to be recognised as a religion. I forget how many tens of thousands were required (it worked as a percentage of the population), but they got enough and so Jedi is a religion with official status.

haha. I should tell my non-beliving husband that, he would then have a faith. it would be easy to convert for him, he has all of the books, movies, posters, figurines, video games, etc. :)

oh, and mine is none. though I like grizz's answer too.

Hey, Grizz, have you heard 'Kingdom in the Sky' by Da Vinci's Notebook?

It's an a capella number that starts out like a typical gospel song, but then turns into a funny poke at the Magic Kingdom, with plenty of religious parallels. It's a riot.

You can download a clip of it here--just scroll down a bit: http://www.davincisnotebook.com/sounds.asp

The full version comes on radioandy's station at Live365 a good bit.

Well, we had a very nice, respectful discussion on "The Passion of the Christ." I think, as long as everyone is respectful, this can be a very good avenue to learn about one another. I know that I appreciated hearing other viewpoints in that forum.

No one was obligated to answer.

The fact I see is that religion (organized or otherwise, even without one) is a very important part of who we are. It is our worldview, and really illuminates our perspective.

I just think that on these boards, we just need to keep things respectful. And "The Passion" thread proved that, on the whole, we can: and we can learn from each other to boot.

other...

half catholic, half jewish... but raised in the catholic side of things.

don't practice either one, although I tend to align myself lightly with more liberal christian beliefs, as well as holding a firm belief in Christ... just none of the other BS associated with organized religion and going to church.

Wow, Wilt, that sure was a funny clip...too bad we don't have all the lyrics to that song. Oh, well *siiiiigh* Our meaningless existences continue

Well, folks, it just so happens that I went to the trouble of transcribing them. I'm reasonably certain about the accuracy of every line except the one in italics.

(Sorry, I just think this song is so cute...it combines the feel of Disney with gospel lyrics so nicely) :)

All my life I have been searchin' for the fabled Promised Land
With my sisters and my brothers, we shall walk there hand-in-hand
Through the trials and tribulations and the Devil’s cruel temptations
I know that we will all get there one day

After years and years of wand'rin', oh, the kingdom we shall find
And the doors may not be open, but we'll gather in the line
And our hearts will swell with pride the day those gates swing open wide
And we take a walk down Main Street, U.S.A.

Oh, that Magic Kingdom in the sky
We will all be there together by and by
We will all drink from the fountain and go ridin' on Space Mountain
When we reach that Magic Kingdom in the sky

Where Mother Minnie, Father Dopey, and Saint Tinkerbell abide
There'll be no more cares or sorrows on that heavenly Teacup ride
I will lay down all my fears when I put on those big black ears
And join the choir to sing in harmony

We will sing the songs of aimless souls who once had gone astray
Who were lost but now are found in the Electric Light Parade
Singin' "Hakuna Matata," growin' Mouseketeer stigmata
In the only club that’s made for you and me

Oh, that Magic Kingdom in the sky
We will all be there together by and by
All God's children shall be free in Pirates of the Caribbean
When we reach that Magic Kingdom in the sky

Oh, the meekest and the poorest their inheritance shall see
And a zillion Japanese tourists all will join the jamboree
They will ride that holy monorail into sweet Providence
When they know that their redeemer is a mouse in shooort red paaaaaaaants (Nice pants!)

Wontcha take me to Orlando, where the sun is shining bright
All the angels are clean-shaven and the people snowy white
Where your problems all are hidden and unhappiness forbidden
You’ll find salvation for a modest fee

Climb into my Winnebago and if you help with the gas
Then we maybe can finagle you a 5 or 6-Day Pass
May your afterlife be blessed, just American Express it
Let Mastercard and Visa set you free

Oh, that Magic Kingdom in the sky
We will all be there together by and by
All religions may be practiced there (except for Southern Baptist)
When we reach that Magic Kingdom in the sky

Oh, that Magic Kingdom in the sky
Manufactured by that "off-the-Wal"ter guy
We’ll give thanks to that old geezer and we’ll keep him in the freezer
When we reach that Magic Kingdom in the, reach the Magic Kingdom in the, reach that Magic Kingdom in the skyyyyyyyyyy
