Unexpected ugly as sin black masses that stick out like a sore thumb and block sight lines?

Fountains are a poor band aid to try in vain to fix a problem of their own creation.
This.
I'm not sure why people think spraying water around this thing will fix the issue. It'll probably make it worse for two reasons:
- You thought views were bad? Well they're worse now because the "fountain" makes the footprint blocking out the countries larger.
- Has anyone ever looked at how nasty RoE's barges looked? These are larger and bound to looked worse with water actively being sprayed on them 6-8 hours a day:

And no, that's not artifacting from zoomed in. That's how bad they looked.

Even IllumiNations wouldn’t make up for the daytime view.

(A show that had more infrastructure than RoE yet managed to hide it all)
My first viewing of IllumiNations was the starting point of this site, and one of the things that absolutely blew my mind was the fact that they put everything away each night and brought everything back out again the next afternoon - and that went on and on for decades. I often told people - that's what makes Disney better than everyone else. They do things that are difficult and expensive because it is the right thing to do to be the absolute best it can be. I worry those times are now gone and there soon wont be anyone around who actually remembers how it used to be and how it should be.

And yet Not 1 Word one here when ROE was still at Epcot and this thing was Bad Show but out in WSL on what looks like the middle of a Cloudy Day!

SO, how is waking up with Nice Clean Tacos with Fountains any different Really?????

The old barges were kept backstage during the day. The new ones will stay out 24/7. That’s how it’s different.

Tons of people have discussed this. At least skim the thread before commenting... 😐

I can remember a relative that visited EPCOT in the 90s, came back and one of the most memorable things to him was that they watched Illuminations from Canada and he was absolutely gob-smacked that “we’re standing there and all of a sudden, this rock opens up and a speaker pops up out of it!!”

That kind of showmanship makes an impression on people.

Another point is that these things cannot have been cheap!

I suppose that they are so fixated on putting on a video production that they felt that there was no better alternative. I wonder if the feedback from Reflections of Earth was that it was boring, and that administration felt that they needed to up their game, or if we're just pandering to ADHD America and trying to keep the kids from looking at their phones and at Disney's screen instead?

I also don't understand why they need 10 feet of rise before they start the screens? Were they that much shorter it would still be bad, but less so.

Horrible.

Having you, as this site's admin, post this means a lot. 👍

There has to be a way to bring these back stage....right?
Part of me likes to think it may be for electrical reasons. Imagine the sound of a generator on those things. At the same time you think they have the technology to go battery operated. Let’s face it They went from a barge that powered itself with continent shape screens on a giant gyroscope that happens to open and reveal a torch. The kites in Epcot forever are more impressive. Harmonious could have been built in 82 and they chose not to.

IllumiNations was one of the best if not the best theme park night time shows I have ever seen (tough to choose between it, Spectromagic and the current Tokyo Disneyland night parade). I can still remember it so well and how I always associated Rhapsody in Blue as the "US Pavilion" theme as a young kid. That is what made it so great, it left an impression after you left the park. I remember being so excited playing Rhapsody in Blue in concert band because it tied to my experiences at Epcot.

To see past greatness replaced with giant TVs tied down in the middle of Epcot's beautiful World Showcase Lagoon is really sad. Also, all of this water is going to make them an operational nightmare. Either the fountains will be short lived or ops kills this show.
