refillable mugs

New question. This is our first year going to the water parks. Say on Monday we go to BB and buy the mugs. They are good all day at BB. Then on Wed. we go to TL..can we pay a fee for Wed. to use the mugs from Monday? Or do we buy new mugs at TL? We could end up with far more mugs than I care to lug home if I have to buy mugs at BB, TL and the resort (plus we have them from our Dec. 2007 trip already).

I thought a moment before posting this, but it really made me think. I have seen a some posts lately that kind of lead to what you can get away with, instead of what you should be doing. I will admit from the onset that I am not completely innocent of trying to beat the system. It does take an effort to do the right thing. I was just wondering if any one else noticed the shift attitudes? Sorry if I ruffle any feathers.

I don’t think anyone is trying to “beat the system”. I look at the policy from Disney more like the speed limit on the interstate. Do you go 75, or do you really go 79 or maybe even 81? You know that even though the “limit” is 75, the local law enforcement isn’t too concerned about this. Now, if you were going 105, there is probably going to be an issue.

I really don’t think Disney cares if the people that return every couple of years might bring back their mugs and fill them up once a day for breakfast or whatever else. The number is so insignificant that they just don’t care, because you know they are aware it is going on and really don’t make much of an effort to stop it. Now, if a family of 8 is sitting in the cafeteria all day drinking gallons of soda out of mugs that are 4 years old, that might be an issue.

If it really mattered to Disney, they would stop it. That doesn’t mean I think it is right or wrong for people to use older mugs. I just think it isn’t really a huge issue, much like going 5 or 6 miles over the speed limit in certain conditions.

When there were resort names and dates on the mugs, that was an indication to me that Disney cared where and when you used the mug.
Once they decided to remove the resort identifier and later on the date identifier, that's an indication to me they no longer care. With the mugs currently on sale, a CM can't possibly figure out when and where you bought it. If Disney cared about enforcing a rule, why would they make it impossible to enforce?

So my position on the ethics of refillable mugs changed when the mugs became generic.

I understand what your saying. Though is it not still "breaking the Law" if you go 79? Sure it is not a huge violation and I wouldn't expect you to end up on the 10 most wanted as a result of speeding. I know some police do not even want to bother with pulling someone over. Just because there is not always someone to pull you over and write you a ticket, does not mean that they couldn't. The sheer number of people driving makes it impossible to enforce the law except on a very small percentage of the drivers. That is why the speed limit is posted. In hopes that people practice self enforcement of the laws.

One of the reasons I asked the question about self enforcement of policies is due to a number of posts I have read recently where people know what the policy is and still do not follow it. It is not just about the mugs. It could be flash photos when you are not supposed to take them. Taking video in the clubs when there is a sign posted not to. Number of people in a car on a ride etc. etc. I was just wondering, in general why it seems that we as a culture seem to think rules and policies are extremely flexible at the least. Some even disreagard the rules or policies or assume that they must apply to someone else and not to everyone. Ultimately it is examplified in the tragedy at six flags in Georgia. Sign said to keep out. Should there have had to been a guard or employee standing there all the time? Shouldn't a sign be enough? I know it is an extreme and not the norm for something so tragic to result in a minor bending of the rules. Still it got my mind thinking about it. I do want to say I am not trying to give a giant guilt trip to anyone. It is just a fragmented thought, that I hoped you all could help me work through.

Me either. I certainly hope I have come off as civil and respectful in my posts, that is certainly my intent. I understand what you were asking and why. I should have started a whole new thread. I am sorry. I am not trying to point or assign blame. Like I said fragmented thought that I need to bounce off a few people. Just really poor timing. This subject is to volitile and I might have served as the match to the fuse. I tried to make it clear from the first post that It was a little off of what the OP was about. Sorry again. What ever this post turns into is not your fault it is mine.

We got the same blue/white/silver one in Dec. 2006, October 2007. Not sure what they will look like this year. This is at Pop century though. We love them and use them all year to take coffee to work!:sohappy:

I feel the same way. I take coffee every morning when I leave for work and I get a happy feeling seeing my disney resort mug. Caribbean Resort 9/08- can't wait. Janine

I have saved all my old ones and I'm drinking out of an old Dixie Landings one right now -- I LOVE them!!!

Does anyone have a picture of the current mugs? I didn't realize they were no longer resort specific....shows you how much I pay attention and how seldom we buy mugs. The last mugs I have are from Pop - we never buy them when we aren't at a value resort. Strange, but we just don't....

Perhaps I am stretching it a bit but rules have always been flexible. Our nation began with a group of people who certainly believed in the fexibility, if not the breakabilty of laws. It becomes even worse when we see someone else doing it because then we can see a justification. I remember my Mother's answer for "they are doing it". She would always shoot back with, "If everyone jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge would you do it". Unfortunately, the answer in many cases is yes. This is not a new phenomena. History is filled with people who believed that the rules do not apply to them. In some cases, it worked out for the better. In some, not so good. Remember, collectively, people are not too bright,at times The mob is fickle, as Shakespeare pointed out. I am not singling anyone out and I would also include myself in this group as well.

I do believe that they have limited mugs available for the hard ticketed events. When I was there in Jan, Cosmic Rays still had a small display of MVMCP mugs available. (At least I believe thats what they were as they were holiday themed)

We bought mugs years ago for each family member our first visit. When we went back the 2nd trip we bought three more mugs. Now that I have six in my cabinet we haven't bought anymore. We don't take them back to Disney because it's not convenient to take the mug to eat breakfast then truck them all back to the rooms on our way to the parks. And no one wants to carry them all day either. I don't want to get into the moral debate of using them on other trips, but we just don't because of convenience. And once Disney started putting frigs. in the deluxe rooms for free, we stick small soft drinks and OJs in it and take them for bkfst.
