Just saw this on AllEars and thought I would post it for your information:

Walt Disney World Resort refillable mugs have gone up in price from $11.99 to $12.49 (before taxes).

Not too bad ...

Are getting these cups worth it? I will admit I am a popaholic.

Are these for dining only? or for your room too where do you refill them if your in your room?

They are only worth it if you don't mind hauling them around with you. You can only refill the mugs at your Resort food court. We personally don't find them worth the value since we won't haul them around with us. That's just us though :D

I miss the older mug size when it was 16-18 ozs. Now they barely fit a 12oz can with NO ICE. The older ones could fit a full can with a 3/4 filling of ice in it too. They also USED TO have lids that CLOSED. I'd pay $17.99 for the old style mug. Kinda suprised it only went up $.50.

This is why the price went up!

More like the price of oil is rising and the cost of making plastic is going up as oil is a component and Disney figured why not pass it on to the consumer as they know disney prices are high, they won't notice.

since we stop in the value resorts and dont get a coffee pot in our room,i need to have one of these mugs for my cups of tea in a morning and before i go to bed at night (i dont mind walking to the food court).there is even a van comes round early in the morning selling pastries bagels etc. and you can fill your cup there as well. i dont see why you cant have tea/coffee making facilities in your room even the cheapest hotels have these now ,why cant disney?

We bought the YOMD mugs on our trip in August. We were on the dining plan and didn't really use the mugs as much as we normally would. I am not one to haul them into the parks so I can grab a cold drink at the end of the day...usually the food court is closed by then anyway ;)
When we did eat in the food court we used our mugs and took a bottle of Powerade as our beverage with our counter service meal. We did haul the bottles of Powerade back into the parks and would get cups of ice when the girls needed a cold drink. This really helped cut down on costs (for the girl scouts it really helped the girls learn to stretch their budgets and appreciate what they had!)

Which value resort has a van that makes the rounds selling pastries and coffee/tea? What time did it appear and where? Is this new?

I still think the mugs are worth it, the last time i stayed on disney in 2005 i used it loads and i drink quite a lot so its good for me. I think its really cheap anyway $12.50 is basically £6 you would pay that for 3 250ml glasses of coke in a restaurant in the UK!

Yeah, I am curious too. I know Pop Century has a hippie-looking van that delivers pizza and that to you in your room if you order over the phone, but I don't think they have a drink refill station on it.

I think you have to take into consideration your length of stay, how much time you will be at the resort and if you have the dining plan. If you have a short trip, in the parks and on the dining plan, then, no the mug probably isn't for you. However, if you will be at the resort for a week or more and may spend some time pool side then the mug would be a great option.
Personally, I liked the individual resort mugs, we have a collection. Now we have the YOMD. I probably won't keep rebuying these mugs. I can also see that if they don't change the design frequently, people will bring these back and continue to reuse them on future visits.

when i think about it this was probably back in 1998 the first time we stayed in disney and my sister used to make us get up early to get to the parks and i dicovered the van one morning on my way to the food court it was only there early in the morning and used to just park for a short while. the last time we stayed there it was with my dd and her dh and they dont like getting up too early even when stopping in disney so i never saw it the last time i was there 2 years ago.i would still like a coffee/teapot in my room, why is this not possible when even cheap hotels have them these days??
