Refillable Mug Policy

Hi everyone. I did a search for this but nothing really answered my question. And if there was a thread already Im sorry but I couldnt find it. My question is...I have several Mugs from different resorts and for years I have brought them back to the resort and used them again and again...I heard a rumor or read it somewhere but I forget....that now you have to buy a new mug everytime you go and that they have this policy written on the new mugs now. I havent been down since Nov 03 and we stayed at Ft. Wilderness and didnt have mugs but I know in the past I had brought ones back and had no problem. I was just wondering if anyone has been down recently and noticed a change at all. Thanks in advance for any info!

I agree. If they haven't done anything about it by now, why? They have obviously known it was a problem. They aren't blind. They can see what the people do.
Very true and possibly proving that people will break rules whenever they can get away with it. Disney is not unique in this.

Ok, now you've got me interested. Where else can I break the rules with total impunity? I'm a rebel!:)

Okay, I think we have all come to a common understanding of the current state of the mug issue. This thread has been streched out long enough don't you think?:hammer:

Yeah, and I really like Woody13's idea about the beer refills. If they had beer taps next to the soda fountains, you better bet I'd be getting refills all the time. :p

Quite the contrary, I could give a fig what other people do. I think I must have said that quite a few times, apparently you missed that part. Kind of like people not seeing the signs for the mug policy. :)
You're right, when I bought most of my mugs, I didn't see a mug policy, because there wasn't one!

I would hope so!! You can't exactly walk to the food court anymore when your unconcious!!:hammer:

Actually what do you think the policy would be on that? When your too drunk to find your way back to the food court without getting lost, they will tell you you've had enough.

When did he say this?

He never tried to justify his behavior this way.

I'm not going to try to justify the fact that I reuse my IDENTICAL mug.

I think you're insinuating that we are trying to compensate for our "illegal" behavior. This is not the case. We are simply stating what we do.

As I said before, I'm guilty. I don't care.

Thanks. And to quote gail again, and well myself as well:

Yes ok its abusing the system but really there are a lot of people out there doin it, and its not goin to be something that can be stopped easily.

What i was sayin is
> Im admitting what i am doin is abusing the system
> There are a large amount of people doing it
> It would take a lot for disney to clamp down on the lare number of people who like me who are doing this in terms of money and man power. As to effectively stop people doing it you would need to have CMs at the drink fountains stopping people and gettin them to either go purchase new mugs or purchase a paper cup for their drinks.

I did not say 'well look other folk are doin it so thats why im still doing it'. I also did not try to imply that as other people are doin then its ok for me and others to do it.

And Gail i dont mean any offence by this but i think you have taken this issue a bit too seriously.

It so funny that this simple question about the mugs got twisted all around into a full fledged moral debate. Not sure how it got to this point and come to think of it I don't even remember what the original question was.:hammer:

Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out how to convince WDW to have some type of refillable beer mug at the resorts, like Woody13 suggested. :slurp:

Yet another reply. We have a family of 5 and visit 3-5 times annually. We buy the stickers for the Typhoon Lagoon/Blizzard Beach mugs and share the two mugs we have among everyone. At the hotels my wife and I buy new mugs each time but use old mugs for the kids. That way we can send people up with the new mugs and transfer content. Remembering that the cost of coke to Disney is about $0.02 per cup, at $12/mug it would take 600 refills to break even so I don't think they're overly concerned since likely less than 1% of mugs are reused on subsequent vacations and those that are probably are used by the most loyal Disney fans.

Actualy the cost of the soda is more than likely much less than that. Its probably closer to $0.001 a 16oz cup, considering my conversation with my wife I discussed in post #146. My wife has also had some experience in working with Plastic manufacturing companies during her years with another beverage company, and she stated that the cost that Disney pays per mug is probably close to $0.10 to $0.25 per mug, based on the sheer quantity they purchase. So all in all Disney is making $12 on a 20 cent or so investment. Times that by how many guests buy these mugs each week and were talking a nice profit. So I don't think the Disney execs are losing much sleep over this issue.

You know, all this has caused me to think about when I got my driver's license.
It was back around the time dirt was discovered and I was told I could drive 75mph on the highways. Since that was the policy then, I should be able to continue to maintain that speed legally now. It should not matter that the policy/speed limit has changed, cause that was what it was when I started to drive and what I was TOLD was allowed.
Also, when I got my first checking account it was free, it should remain free cause that was how it was when I first got it. The policy change should not affect me, cause that was the rule then. I was also told it would NEVER change, hmmm, maybe I should sue the bank and all the CSRs for saying that back then.
Policy changes should never affect anyone ever.

I understand your point, but remember there was originally no policy to begin with. Then Disney decided to slap one onto the mug and place random sings around the resorts that are hard to notice.

In the examples above there were already policies in place for people to abide by, so when that policy changes people will have no problem adapting to the change.

But to go so many years with out any type of policy and then to suddenly pull one out of thin air, so to speak, and try to make it stick. Thats a little harder to pull off.

I also doubt they are losing sleep over it, as a stockholder, I certainly am not losing sleep.

I do find it amusing how people justify that it is ok to do because there is a huge profit percentage.

It ranks right up there with sneaking an over 3 child into the park as an under 3 because they make a lot of money or having 5 in a room for 4 because Disney makes enough money. Fire laws be damned.

Sorry folks, I like to follow rules and do understand the policies do change and we are supposed to adhere to them. Again, I really don't care what other people do (as long as it does not impact me, and this does not), but, there is no rule that says I cannot express my opinion on the topic.

I was not in any way trying to justify anything. I'm only stating the facts. :D
