Refillable cups

I know that the cups are only really good throughout your visit. but i have seen people in All-Star with cups from the wilderness lodge from 2004. Is Disney not really strict on this rule? every year we go we get 4 mugs and we now have at least 16 in our household.Main question here is even though i know it's not really allowed, are you going to get in trouble with Disney if you bring cups from previous years?

The policy changed - it used to be that the mugs were good forever, then they changed it to be good for only the current visit.

I have never seen the new policy enforced.

It probably won't be until they put barcodes on the mugs.

I agree...barcodes will be the only way to have the new policy really work.

I bring mine back every year. Unless they get resort specific again so I can get some different ones - I am not going to buy the same mug over and over and over.

Putting moral arguments aside...

If you were confronted by a cast member about it (assuming you don't get irate and cause a scene), what--really--is going to be the consequence?
Most likely, they'd ask you to stop refilling or to purchase a new mug.

Again, ignoring any moral complications, is it LEGALLY stealing? Not a question I could answer, but I suppose there is the possibility that they could push some kind of shoplifting charge? Whether they COULD or not, I'd say the chances are extremely slim...

That being said, you people with your refillable mugs must really be hanging out at the resorts or something. Admittedly, I've had the dining plan the last two times I've been, but I never spent enough time at the resort to NEED a refillable mug. Plus, we've stayed at PORS. So, combine that long walk with the fact that we basically just sleep at the resort, and the mug issue is moot...

to tell you the truth we have never ate at a Disney sit down restaurant except Chef Mickey a few years ago. So normally we are at the resort for Breakfast and Dinner.:lookaroun

I don't even think the barcodes will help. We saw a lot of 'abuse' at the waterparks when we were there last summer. The most annoying thing was standing in line to fill your waterpark mug and then the guy in front of you scans his one waterpark mug, dumps the contents into another cup or resort mug (or 3 or 4!) over and over, taking way too long.

To be honest we only purchased one water park mug at each of the water parks...mostly because 1). we had the dining plan and didn't really need the mugs 2). my husband and I generally drink water when we are really thirsty and 3). we had never been to the water parks and the girls really wanted the mugs to add to our collection!

We will all know when soda theft becomes a big enough issue with Disney when they do away with the refillable mug and you have to pay for each soda you purchase......

There was a thread not too long ago where someone who worked for Disney stated that CMs are told not to approach or confront guests who are using older versions of the mug. The cost of soda in the mug doesn't even add up to $.05, so Disney doesn't really lose money on repeat "offenders."

lol some people will tell you it's wrong to bring a cup from a previous visit and then tell you it's ok to park at the contemporary when you go to magic kingdom to avoid the fees.

do what you like, I've never heard of disney saying anything to a guest about refilling a cup from a previous trip.

My first trip I purchased the mugs because I didn't know "anything"... we might have broken even at the end of the trip!?! We use to come back to the resort in the afternoon for a nap/rest but even so we still don't use our mugs that often. Now, on my last trip I was in the "World" for 10 days and it was worth my while to purchase the mugs!

Sorry for thread drift...

So, how does Disney feel about people sharing mugs? (joke :p)

Interesting.....

Say 500,000 people did this over a 7 day period, refilling 3 times per day....at $.05 per fill, that would total $525,000 if my math is correct. I dont know how much the bottom of the ladder CM makes, but wouldnt that cover a minimum of 20 peoples salary for a year possibly?

Just make the mugs out of a biodegradable plastic that would degrade after 45 days of being out of its airtight packaging.

Yea..but in true Disney Fashion if you went back to the register and told them your mug broke they would give you a new one....you know customer service.....
