Disney will win BIG. It's the taxpayers of Orange and Osceola that lose..Oh, and for everyone who says that the Legislature can just create new taxes on Disney (or on anyone), they would need a supermajority to do so:
And transferring of powers to another government entity also would require a vote by Disney:
Also:
They're close to having the necessary supermajority in both the House and the Senate, but I think they're two seats short in both. Maybe three seats in the Senate.
If you look at the Reedy Creek Dissolution as a guide, 23 Senators voted yes (out of 40). So that's only 57%. They're 4 seats short there. In the house, 70 out of 120 voted to dissolve Reedy Creek, which is 58% - they're 10 seats short there.
…well…that little **** certainly does have it coming
Should we get him an iron throne? Perhaps he can borrow the dragon from Universal too. The freightening part is there are some who would be all for it.So she wants to let DeSantis have his own personal fiefdom? That sounds totally acceptable and not at all ridiculous.
They would need to do that and somehow also drag in 2 Democrats in the house and 3 in the Senate.Yeah, I was thinking if DeSantis (or the legislative leadership) put on the full court press and dragged every party member along.
I didn't audit - but I think the discrepancy is simply due to non-votes. Otherwise, it's straight party line.If you look at the Reedy Creek Dissolution as a guide, 23 Senators voted yes (out of 40). Maybe he can rename it RDIC.orgShouldn’t we find it terrifying that the Governor enact legislation to dissolve a district to then ~potentially~ enact new legislation to make the district operate under his control? Is this real life? Is there any precedent to this? How would he do this without having any landholdings at all in the district?
That would be great political strategery.Maybe he can rename it RDIC.org

Yes of course its along party lines. DeSantis does not need Orange or Osceola counties. He knew this going in..I didn't audit - but I think the discrepancy is simply due to non-votes. Otherwise, it's straight party line.
Except he only won by 33,000 votes. Which is significantly less than the number of registered voters who did not vote in Orange County. He does not need orange and Osceola Counties to win. But if he angers enough people in those counties to vote against him he will lose the election.Yes of course its along party lines. DeSantis does not need Orange or Osceola counties. He did not say that…he babbled on multiple occasions that “we’re gonna come up with a plan”Um, where did DeSantis say that? I didn't think he said that at all (though I may have missed it). It's been inferred, but I didn't think he stated that.
It’s gonna be dealt with at the court level unless Florida buckles and takes the medicine…my guessI think it's pretty clear that this is not going to be dealt with at the county level. For one, DeSantis cannot have property taxes increase anywhere by even a dollar. Secondly, DeSantis isn't going to put the end result of this in hands of a Democrat run county. It will be dealt with at the State level.
Question is: what are non-starters for Disney? Are they willing to lose planning/zoning/building control? Seems like they are holding the leverage here.
My guess... being able to influence/control who the board are. All decisions come from the top down.. so maybe Disney gives up seats, but gives them up in a way they still feel they can have a say in who fills them.Question is: what are non-starters for Disney? Right, I think they want their board but I guess my question is - are they willing to have RCID as it stands today but they have to go to OC for building approval instead of themselves? If so, this gets done very quickly. But I'm not sure they are willing to give that up.My guess... being able to influence/control who the board are. Ultimately Disney would negotiate I think to make themselves look good in the end... even if they do so in a way to benefit themselves in the details. Disney doesn't benefit from scorched earth strategy... but they are in a good position for a game of chicken.
