CFTOD calls the Disney and Reedy Creek relationship 'one of the greatest examples of corporate cronyism in modern American history'

Wasn’t the part they withdrew continuing in state court?

Funny.. I pointed that out 2 weeks ago...

- Many departments were facing single digit reductions vs prior years, including from reduction of staff. It's hard to track completely because they also were moving headcount between departments. (Notably several OUT of the Fire Dept). Notable in capital projects was the Planning & Engineering dept which managed to keep expenses down by using the option to do 'less paving rehab'

Meanwhile, that "tax cut" is an increase of over $9 million. It seems like "opting" to not maintain the roads could end up strengthening Disney's case if there are needed repairs that don't get done.
'not maintain roads' is a stretch here... Changing your planned activity doesn't mean 'not maintaining'. These types projects are on a long term plan based on age and need. They can simply be shifting what work to do next FY and still stay within their expected schedules.

This is likely the case of the Boss going to every dept and saying "You all need to find savings and eliminate unnecessary spend" -- and this dept going "well, we can defer or skip some of this refurbishment we were going to do because its not really essential yet... " and look good when you hand in the sheet asking for less money.

Watching today's session...

Garcia telling the retiree 'there has been no decisions made in terms of how we are going to take of our staff and employees' in response to the retiree telling his story that as a retiree he was informed he wouldn't get the cash stipend Garcia outlined as the replacement for the Disney pass perk.

Uhh dude.. you're at the meeting to discuss the proposed budget. How have you 'not made any decision' on a line item that is a significant portion of your budget and forward liabilities? You gonna pass a budget without any idea of what you are planning on spending?

So the "ceo" plans to announce the updated plan on Sept 27th.. during.. the LAST public session.. how fitting

Then later at least one of the board members asks this same obvious question.. and the Finance Director said their target tax rate does cover the plans 'they are discussing'. But this is a zero sum game... that means they already have plans on what to GIVE UP to increase their benefits spend.. or all plans are somehow going to cost less. And the time they are giving the public to respond to their "plan"... the last hearing as they vote to finalize said budget. How "transparent and efficient" of them.

The best part was Garcia telling the other board member "I'm the wrong guy to ask" when the question about risk to the tax rate was posed.

The rest of the chest pumping by Garcia about the lawsuit updates was really hard to watch.

As opposed to the traditional kind, for which the CFTOD board is the gold standard.

Central Florida Oversight District reconsiders its plans to eliminate Walt Disney World Annual Pass benefits for its employees

Wait, so this was a scam and an example of corporate cronyism or a legitimate above-board benefit to district employees they're realizing they shouldn't have cut?

Or is it not corporate cronyism if they're only purchased at the team level?

... and if they're purchased at the team level, what happens with the retirees?

It's getting harder and harder to tell what's what, according to them.

“What worked in the early years to spark economic development in Central Florida later proved to be an urban planning quagmire. With horrific governance practices.”
To be fair, if anyone should know about horrific governance practices, it would be those with ties to DeSantis.
Who, exactly, is being disaffected by this quagmire? The taxpayers and residents of the District seemed content with the arrangement, as were the local County residents who were not taxed for services rendered.

But I don’t think they’re happy about the pace. I get the impression that the Chair is increasingly furious at each meeting that Disney hasn’t simply given up and submitted to his will - is it just me?
I can’t imagine they’re happy at all now that the governor has indicated he doesn’t care about this anymore. I wonder what they think they’re getting out of this now that he’s “moved on.”
