Probably because an unsafe guardrail could more easily be tied back to the District if there was ever a serious accident. They probably figure that some potholes will just cause a minor inconvenience for guests who drive and increased maintenance for WDW buses. Of course, a pothole can be a serious hazard, particularly to motorcycles, but that's the sort of thing that this Board seems to be either incapable of comprehending or indifferent towards.

Wonder if FDOT will come back into play with District-roads. Under HB-9 the District Board can, "

The board of supervisors shall have the right and authority to sell or lease any public road to the State Department of Transportation, enter lease-purchase agreements with respect thereto with the State Department of Transportation, and contract with the same for the construction, maintenance, regulation, or operation of any public road, on such terms and conditions as the board and the State Department of Transportation may agree."


Essentially would the new board try to make an agreement with FDOT to takeover certain District roads?

Every time the roads are brought up I worry about runDisney races. Since it appears Disney doesn't control the roads directly anymore. Roads are required to be closed for the races to be run thoughout property. This reads like Disney has to ask the district every time they want to close a road.

I'm guessing this is partly due to the ongoing law suits. Money has to be spent on lawyers instead of the roads.
This is all kinda disappointing to think about too. It means the advantage that Disney once had with their much nicer roadways, traffic control, signs, etc. will likely start to look like the rest of Florida, crappy and dilapidated. SMH

The other part of this makes me wonder if it's just another of the ways in which the Desantis appointed lackeys are using to "stick it to Disney" and try to control them. It's all rather infuriating to watch these morons attempting to dismantle one of the biggest sources of jobs, taxes, tourism, and revenue for the state. They're cutting off their own noses to spite their face.

Oh geez, I hope not, but I suppose it's entirely possible.

The settlement of these lawsuits can't happen quickly enough. These continued actions by this board of Desantis' minions are going to seriously impact WDW adversely for many years to come.

There was discussion about guardrail issues during at least one board meeting a while back. IIRC, a number of them (some district responsibility, and some state) need to be replaced or repaired for a variety of reasons, including some that needed to be updated to comply with newer standards. I think there'd been a local news report about it, but I don't remember the details.

This also looks like an opening for toll roads. I suspect they won't ultimately go with toll roads, because people might be more likely to blame the state rather than Disney for new tolls, but they were threatened at one point.

There is no wondering about it. The board is 100% using their power to stick it to Disney. By letting roadways deteriorate and garbage accumulate, it gives the appearance that Disney, as a whole, is going downhill. Where the fact is that the district is no longer providing the exceptional service that it did when it was Reedy Creek.
