Redoing Buzz Lightyear

I think they could do something to help with the aiming because I found the system that is currently in place to be very confusing. I could barely locate my laser when I rode it.

Maybe I just stink.

I recently had this same discussion about JII with someone on the boards.

The #1 reason why the trackless system won't work in there is due to the fact that the current track and floor varies in levels. In order to put in a trackless system they would need to gut the entire ride, rip up the floor, put in an all new layout and start from scratch. Knowing WDI, if they were to do that then you can just say goodbye to Buzz. No need to spend millions of dollars to "upgrade" a ride when you can build a whole new one.

I like the ride. There are things that they could do to upgrade the ride, but I don't think that they need to do anything.

Buzz is a great ride but TSMM has surpassed it. Theirs two Toy Story themed rides in WDW and they are both the same thing really...except TSMM is better. Poor planning by Disney. I wouldn't mind them doing something else with Ranger Spin

I think those guns should stay where they are, it makes it somewhat more challenging to hit high points targets. Being able to just point, aim, and fire at the same target loses the effect of people able to twist and turn so your partner gets screwed!

I have no problem with Buzz, outside of making sure all the guns are all up to speed and working, and, I mention this just because so many bring it up as well, a cleaner queue....I thought it was just me and my family, but the more posts i've read lately, it seems it's one of the dirtier lines to wait in.

Agreed.

I enjoyed Buzz until I rode TSMM and now it seems outdated. I was in WDW last year with my fiance who was making her first trip since she was 5. I talked about how great Buzz was, as I had not yet been on TSMM. Any old ride will have a nostalgic appeal to it for me, but for her being new to both rides, she thought Buzz was kind of disappointing.

I agree in general. But I can usually almost walk on Buzz and can't even get a FP for TSMM. And it's not because Buzz isn't popular. It always has a line, but it's continuously moving and has a high capacity. TSMM could not accommodate all the people who currently ride Buzz if Buzz were to go away. So I don't think it's poor planning at all, and I don't think TSMM comes anywhere close to justifying the elimination of Buzz.

I would just like to see them get rid of the toy angle so that we are helping Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger and not Buzz Lightyear Delusional Action Figure.

This.

They really do need to detach like blasters from the vehicles, to bring it up to code with all the other variations of the ride. All the other suggestions - three dimensional targets, fog for the lasers, new paint and a not filthy queue are all very important as well. Of course, I wouldn't mind if they bulldozed it completely and replaced it (do we really need two Toy Story themed shooters?)

But if we have to have it, we might as well have it look nice and be up to date. And not have a grubby, paint-chipped and trashy queue.

Didn't know that about 9-eye in Paris. Very cool.

My 4 year old kept turning the car and I kept having to remind myself not to get annoyed. I kept thinking to myself "we're in Disney and he's having fun..." but my competitive nature kept trying to poke through!!

It could use some up dating. Maybe add some of the new villans in it since the new Toy Story movies don't have Zurg. Maybe have 1 level Zurg, the next Stincky Pete and another with Lotso.

As someone else has already mentioned, some fog to make the laser beams visible would be great. I can never really tell what I'm aiming at because the guns are so weirdly shaped. My wife always outscores me by a ridiculous margin.

Hahaha that is what makes the ride great. I really think being able to grab and point the gun wherever you want will take a lot away from the ride.

I'd at least make the beams different colors or something so you can differentiate your beam from others. The spinning mechanism needs to be improved so it doesn't auto-rotate when you don't want it too and some new effects/standard maintenance should be used. I'd say just improve it and make the ride better using new tech. It's the original shooting gallery ride, so it deserves to stick around for a long time to come.

If I could do anything to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, I'd only make 2 changes:

1) Remove the blaster from the actual ride vehicle, like Universal's MIB ride.
and
2) New paint. Seems like everytime I go on it, the vehicles and various parts of the queue line are in pretty bad shape.

If you're going to tear anything out of Tomorrowland and add an e Ticket as you're suggesting, there's a ride located across from Monster's Inc Laugh Floor that could go and I wouldn't miss it for a second. Buzz should stay.

Just my humble opinion.

Yeah, take the blaster off the vehicle, like DLs version. It frees up where you can shoot.

We LOVE this ride and go on it multiple times. The re-rideability factor on this is huge. Does anyone know where any of the hidden high value targets are at? I can never find the one that is supposedly on Zurg.

I'll PM you to avoid spoiling it for others. Once you know where all the targets are you can pretty much max out the score every time, which makes it a lot less fun.

Which just gave me an ideal - maybe another nice upgrade would be to add another digit or two to the score counter.
