One cool thing about DLH is the number of pieces of DL concept art that are displayed around the buildings. The Herb Ryman rendering of DL that was used to promote DL to ABC hangs by the elevators in the main bldg. Whether it's the original or not, I don't know. I just wish each pic had an informational placard.

The Disneyland hotel is certainly not as beautifully themed as many of the Disney World hotels.

But it's magical to me. I'll try to explain why:

I love walking up to a hotel to check in and the first thing I see is a giant Mickey statue outside. I love the Mickey statues in the lobby. I love checking in and the hotel staff hands me park hours and other Disney things. I love that my key had Mickey on it. I love the elaborately themed Peter Pan pool. I love the character topiaries. I love the armoir in my room with the Disney etching. I love the tinkerbell border around the top of my room. I love the Mickey hand that holds the lamp. I love being able to walk downstairs and eat at Goofy's kitchen. I also love walking by Goofy's kitchen and seeing characters inside.

So yes it's expensive, yes there are better themed hotels, and yes there are nice cheaper hotels very close by which I have stayed at and thoroughly enjoyed my trip. But for me, if I can afford it, I'd pick staying on property every time.

Just got back from DL a week ago and it was our first time there. IT was fantastic! We stayed at the Best Western Stovall's Inn. It wasn't on par with Disney hotels, but we enjoyed our stay and the room was spacious and clean. It is a typical Best Western, a little old, but like I said it was clean. There were two pools and two outdoor spas and a lot of topiarys in the pool area which made it fun. The walk was about 10-15 minutes. It was right across the street from California Adventure (could see Cali Screamin' and the maliboomer from the pool) and a 5 minute walk from Disney's Paradise Pier hotel. We cut through the Grand Californian Hotel (beautiful hotel and if we had the $$$ we would stay there....) on our way to the park entrances. The BW STovall's even let us check-in early (although the front desk lady wasn't too happy about it). IT was a good value for the $$$, and if we go back to Disneyland, if we don't have the cash for a Disney hotel we will definately consider staying here again.

Wow! Wish we could get that $55/night rate at the HJ!

We are staying Oct 22-27 and with the Entertainment rate the cost is $99/night (except for Fri which is $109) Still a great rate and even beat the AAA rate. Guess I am going at a "higher" price time?

(I thought it would be a "value" time....
