Did Disney ever issue a statment or give a reason for actually closing AE  I have looked on the web and found nothing, sorry if this has already been posted :king:

i really dont recall a reason either to be honest. maybe it was something to boost attendence on this attraction. i cant see them spending money just because there was nothing else to spend money on. we know a few hundred things money could be spend on. lol

Four things I can think of: slipping attendance (in its last year), complaints (by those who didn't read the WARNING signs), Jeffrey Jones (who portrayed LC Clench) was involved in a child case, and there would be opportunity for merchandise.

Disney doesn't issue public explanations when they decide to close an attraction, based on what I've observed. They like to keep these things pretty hush-hush and just let the attractions disappear. If you make the effort to contact them and ask what's up, then they'll give you the company line, but they won't issue any public explanation on decisions like that, since that would just draw attention to the closing.

I believe it was all the complaints. I for one liked the show but those harnesses were terrible. I went on it once and those harnesses ugh, I never went on it again and put my complaint in every time. I mean if the harnesses just hovered over you or you could push it up and get comfortible or if it didn't try to constrain and push you into the seat. Like I said it wasn't the show. I actually look foward to the change and hope stitch dosn't have those harnesses. if it dose then I will not ride it and start complaining again.

To me the reason for the closin was because they wanted to make it more for all ages insted of teen and above. I bet they had complaints about how scary it was for there little kid and they probly came up with the idea of putin stich in it insted of alien so it now will be for all ages. But it wont because if they are letin all ages in then for the teens it will not be scary as much as alien was and always will be.

Sharpen your pencil for the complaint letters...

You may or may not know this but the harness is actually a speaker holder. The imagineers put stereo speakers in the harness so they are in perfect position to your ears so you get all the 3D sound effects. So instead of doing something like headphones on Sounds Dangerous, the imagineers put them into a device that most people would be used to seeing on a thrill attraction, an over the head shoulder restraint.

For SGE to have the same sound effects, they will likely have the same harnesses. I haven't seen any rumors posted here about new restraints or headrests.

I think it's safe to assume the harnesses will also be used in SGE. IIRC, didn't the front of the harness house other effects other than the speakers (ie: Hot air, water, etc.) ?

I don't know about the water part. I had always thought those came from above since they were supposed to be drool (yea... that's it, drool) from the alien up in the catwalks. The back of the harness had the air effect to feel like the creatures tongue on the back of your next.

I hope that there are no harnesses, and headphones are used. I also hope that Stitch will be a family-friendly experence, not one that young stitch loving fans, would be afraid of. I hope that it is fun for all ages INCLUDING those under 5. who knows what may come from it. only time will tell.

I loved AE and miss it a lot. Sure it wasn't for kiddies, which makes me think it would've fit better in either Epcot or MGM, but it was still a breath of fresh air. The first time we went on AE (during its grand opening) I happened to get seated in the one that gets 'selected' to get transported to another planet. When that red light hit me, I thought "aww, crud. I'm going to have to get up in front of all these people!" I do think Stitch will be a good attraction, I just wish they didn't have to cannibalize AE to do it.

Of course, keep in mind that this is from a guy who saw Alien when he was 7 and it's influences on my life are pretty obvious. :hammer:

I think that headphone would completely kill the magic in an attraction like this. The story goes, you're in an alien room when Stitch escapes and runs around in a darkened room. If you are forced to put on headphones to hear the action in the room, that would just make the whole situation totally contrived.

I think it's a munch more believable situation where you're just sitting there and the sounds are happening right behind your head are coming from these invisible speakers.

I'm interested to see how they tie the harnesses into the story for Stitch. They were safety transport containment harnesses, or something like that, for XS Tech's teleporter. Wonder what they will be for an interplanetary courtroom. Maybe we're all going to be alien prisoners that were imprisoned for messing up the endangered Mosquito wildlife refuge that Earth has become and Stitch sets us free too.

BINGO. Having headphones would definitely IMO ruin the magic of the attraction. As far as the tie in with the story and the harnesses, I am not sure how they are planning on doing it. According to the press releases and things guests are supposed to be "extra security" for transporting Stitch. I only went on AE once, but I am looking forward to SGE. I think it fits the MK better. I also want to see the ceiling mounted guns...I hear they are going to be sweet!

The speakers in the restraint system was easy to figure out. So were finding where the special effects came from. My only hope with the Stitch transformation is that the seats and retraints would be more comfortable. I loved AE but the seats were like sitting on a rock and the restraints hurt my shoulders a little bit. It was very uncomfortable.

OMG! I completely forgot about that. WOW, I think that plays a big part in it's closing. Just look at Captain EO. LOL

Maybe I'm in the minority, but AE wasn't that exciting to me. And it certainly wasn't "scary." Maybe for the under 6 set, but not for anyone else. *shrugs*

The seats were HORRIBLY uncomfortable. Those harnesses were a nightmare. (Though I always put my hands up under them, pushing them upward so when they "locked" it wasn't crushing the crap out of me.) And while it was a cool idea, every time after the first that I saw it, the sound seemed poor, the effects off and the timing just not quite right. It seemed like it just got worse and it wasn't worth the wait for it. I liked S.I.R. and Skippy enough but the rest was kind of eh to me.

I'll check out Stitch because I liked the movie but if it's the same thing, just different window dressing, I don't know that I'll want to ride it over and over. Which was the problem for AE with me. It just wasn't something you felt like doing more then once or twice.

If they use head-sets, they can make it like the U.N. where you need the head-set to hear the translators interpreting the story in the courtroom...

just a thought
