Good Morning All,So the big day arrives and your months of planning are past and suitcases are locked and your ready to go.Curious as ever, but when does your vacation start? Is it when you board the plane or when you jump in your car for the drive,or is it when you arrive at your resort?.For us coming from Scotland we spend a night at airport hotel in Glasgow,up early for breakfast then check in our cases, visit duty free, but it's only when we board the plane and my car is parked away for two weeks, and that big bird takes off that I feel now iam on vacation, just curious when your vacation kicks into gear?

We like to wait and keep things a secret from our DD (9) until the night before so in my mind the vacation starts when we say to her..."You wanna go to Disney tomorrow?" It is always hard to keep the secret especially when we have to get schoolwork from her teacher to bring along but it is sooooo worth it for the reaction. For me that is when the vacation starts. Then an evening of feverish packing for her so the relaxation part does not kick in until we are actually in the car from the car service the morning of our departure headed to the airport. I always know whatever happens from there on out has nothing to do with work and everything to do with my family:)

For us, it is the night before. We call it the "Sissy Party". We go out for a nice dinner in our favorite restaurant, come home zip up the suitcase and check into our flight. We usually have the 6 or 7 am flight out of Newark so the night usually rolls into our morning! Once we arrive at the resort we store our luggage and find ourselves strolling down Main Street by noon.

I think i'm on a permanent Disney Vacation haha as, as soon as we get home - i'm thinking about and trying to book the next trip!!!

Really though, for me it's when we close our front door and leave for the airport. (I'm from London so not toooooo far away) :)

We'll be back in Florida in October - slightly longer wait this year..

For me, it's usually around 3am when I wake up with butterflies in my stomach and realize that I can't go back to sleep. It's Disney day!!! I take my shower at 4am and try to wait for everyone to wake up. Sometimes if everyone is moving slow (how can you move slow on Disney day?!?!) I sit in the car and listen to my Disney CD's until it's finally time to go.

Mad Hatter, just have to ask where in Scotland are you from?

My daughter is currently studying for her Master's degree at St. Andrews University and we spent 2 weeks touring your beautiful country in September. I LOVED Edinburgh. I'll probably be heading back over there again this fall, which is why I'm living everyone's Disney vacation vicarously thru this board - I can't afford to do both! But right now visiting my daughter takes precedent over spending time at the House of Mouse.

Well Scotland is lovely when it doesn't rain, anyway iam originally from Glasgow but live in a seaside town called Stranraer, right across the Irish sea from Belfast.St Andrews is a beautiful town, been a few times for the golf, and Edinburgh is also nice, but to be honest, the west coast of scotland has better scenery than the east coast. Here we go,I can hear the clans gathering for an attack on the real mad hatter, whaurs ma sword!

Jealous that you're from Scotland, first of all - did a golf tour with Dad when I finished highschool: Carnoustie (all courses), old and new St. Andrews, North Berwick, and Turnberry! Dying to go back!

The trip starts when BOOKED - but the "DISNEY" feeling starts about an hour out from the airport. There's a Tim Hortons that we always stop at on the way - no matter what time it is - THAT'S how you start a trip.

Good question! (btw, my best friend is from Paisley)

So whether we go to Disney or not, vacation starts when we hop in the car - whether to go to the airport or to drive to our destination. I will say, I really really start getting excited about the Disney trips when the trip is paid for and we get our Vacation Package in the mail from Walt Disney World!

Vacation for me starts the moment I hit the door out of that office for the last time before. For instance, we are leaving on a Thursday afternoon at the moment in July, so taking a half day. As soon as 12 noon rolls around I consider myself on vacation.....ah yes....

We had beautiful weather only 2 rainy days in 2 weeks!

My daughter spent a semester at Queens University 2 years ago so I've been to N. Ireland, too. Her fiancee and his family live just outside Belfast, so a couple of times she has taken the train to the west coast then caught a ferry to Belfast. I'll have to ask her what the name of town is where she catches the ferry.

EDIT: I just talked to her on Skype and your town is where she catches the ferry. It is a Small World after all!
