Yes but Disney doesn't mindlessly rely on it like Universal often seems to. It's there, but it's not practiclly the ONLY thing there.

I will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER understand why people get so hurt and teary eyed over any jab at Disney. Sure, I love Disney's parks, and think they are a great company; but lets face it, both Disney and Universal are huge, greedy corperations. There is absolutely no sense in being so damn loyal to your made up image of Disney being something you have a stake it. Mickey has very thick skin by now and doesn't need you guys complaining and fighting for him because Universal has an ad with a preteen girl making fun of hugging princes. Oh the humanity!!!

I just don't like the idea that they're marketing the fact that it's "uncool" to be childlike and that fairy tales are for little girls. Because it isn't true and we already have kids trying to grow up too quickly. We don't need ads telling kids that kid stuff isn't cool.

The EXACT SAME THING happens at WDW....whenever I wear an ROTM shirt/hat or a Universal fleece, I get comments from everyone. Scooby-Doo really has nothing to do with Universal except for the characters being there so of course no one is going to say anything.

Interesting, I bought a ROTM shirt on my last visit and wore it to Epcot the next day. The two comments I received were inquiries as to how the ride was. Very interesting. I guess I should wear an old King Kong tee when I visit in December.

I had one more thought:

Remember the first US commericals that showed the woman riding behind Captain Marvel (looks like her chest was boxing his ears)? I think the commecial stated something about being able to find superheros.......

Okay, now who has see the Disney commercials where normal everyday people are working in their yard, grocery shopping, etc. while wearing tights and a cape. Then it shows the sames parents wearing the costumes at Fantasmic with their kids. I think the theme there was that YOU can be a superhero to your kids at WDW......

Anyone else see there or was it a gross Lortab induced dream?

Okay....I'm gonna put my two cents worth in here....when I first saw the "...if I hafta hug one more princess..." commercial...I was HIGHLY annoyed....I just don't see why all of a sudden Universal has to start taking "shots" at WDW???!!! I too agree that Universal is trying to tell kids that it's just not "COOL" to be a Disney fan??!!! Now, I'll be the FIRST to admit that Disney (IMHO) is more a state of mind (magically speaking) than anything else, but I feel that kids should be ENCOURAGED to use their imaginations, and decide for themselves what's "cool" and what's NOT "cool"??!!!

I've been in law enforcement for over twenty seven years, and TRUST me when I say that we need MORE of the Disney type influence on kids, and MUCH LESS of the "Gangsta" type hip-hop (NO, I'm not saying that ALL hip-hop is bad), and MUCH LESS of the VIOLENT influences of some the so-called video games that are out there....I'm simply appalled when I see an advertisement for a video games where the WHOLE concept is that your running from, and actually trying to KILL police officers??!!! If I had MY way, every one of these types of video games would be taken off the market!!! And you can say that there are restrictions from kids purchasing or gaining acces to these games, but again BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY that these games DO find their way into our kids hands and game controllers!!!

Okay, okay....I'll get off my soapbox now...I just think that these types of ads from Universal are definitely NOT COOL!!!!!! :drevil:

Now, for those of you upset about USF getting knocked around some here. This IS a DISNEY forum. It will happen so don't get so tore up. I'm sure if you go over to a UNIVERSAL forum, there's plenty of Disney bashing to go around.

As for the commercials... they're funny and reveal something about USF marketing dept. They seem to want or need to "feed" off Disney's success. They can't figure out how to market themselves without mentioning their competitor. That usually means they don't think very highly of their own market position or they think their potential guests need to be reminded that they are close to Disney.

Look, it is what it is... Universal taking a swipe at the competition that kicks their butt... It isn't going to draw 10 million more people to the park.. And be honest, how many people do you talk to that say I AM GOING TO UNIVERSAL FOR VACATION, MAYBE I'LL DO DISNEY... Chances are they are either going to Disney and not UNiversal or both... face it, Disney draws the people to Orlando.. Put Universal in any other city and sorry to say, it is shut down by now.. it is only still floating because of Disney... Not the other way around... So, let Universal put out all these commercials about pixie dust not being your thing... In the end Disney still beats Universal

I know I'm going down to Orlando in a few weeks for a Universal only trip, and many other people do it as well. Universal has a great resort that would be successful in other places. Disney isn't keeping them up.

But, you are right.. Even Disney isn't keeping Universal's attendance stay up as they have seen declines how many years in a row now??? Disney's attendance is up, Universal's down.. And it isn't because Disney is celebrating 50 Years of Magic.. Universal's numbers have been going down even in years Disney is not celebrating something big.. Universal, Sea World, and all those other hotels opened up riding Disney's coattails...

I think the "who goes to bed at 7?" a low blow. Disney parks, even in the off season never closes before 7....and even by chance they do, there's a TON more things to do! I hate universal for these commercials alone (not to mention the clientele that attends that park....makes it like my local Six Flags Great Adventure)

What does this have to do with a commercial and how will disney respond? I can't believe that you've gotten away with that comment. It says something about your character. I know how I will feel when reading any of your comments or threads, if I read them at all.

I hope this board is better than this thread has shown. This is the 1st thread I have read and I am very disappointed with the forum so far. I found this from another board which I have enjoyed and used for a few years. I have never seen a flat out nasty generalization of people on that board.

I really hope things improve on other threads.
