I'm wanting to take my family to the California Grill, but I just looked at their menu and prices...it's pretty expensive and I want to know if the food/atmosphere/over all experience is good enough to take my family there. My dad will be paying and I hate to suggest a place that just turns out to be average and him have to fork over a ton of cash for that...

It's nice, and the view is great if you get up there during MK fireworks. Gotta dress up to go and it is expensive.

I'm also wanting to know if anyone has eaten their sushi? Is is excellent sushi? I LOVE sushi, but weird about where I will eat it!

The sushi there is the best in Orlando. Not florida, but Orlando. The view is amazing. I actually prefer the Wine Room (quiet room on the south side) for it's evening views. The restaurant itself can be a little loud at times. I never watch the fireworks from my table, I always head out to the catwalk.

The 2 best restaraunts at Disney are:

California Grill
Food 7
View 10+

Jiko
Food 10+
View 2

But that's just my opinion.

We are constantly rating the Disney restaurants we eat at... and California Grill tops my list for both food and atmosphere, with Jiko, Flying Fish and Narcoosee's closely following. I can't speak for the sushi; however, the filet is delicious!! ENJOY!

CG is an incredible restaurant. The view of MK is simply life altering and watching Wishes from the roof is truly unique. The food is incredibly good and for a non-Japanese restaurant their sushi is very good as well. If you are into wines they have huge selection. If dad is OK with the price it is a can't miss.......unless you are clemsontigger :D

View is excellent. Atmosphere is OK (sometimes overcrowded and occasionally snooty). Food is quite overrated - many better choices at WDW, including Jiko, Citricos, Le Cellier, Bistro de Paris, Artist Point.

California Grill is Great

My DD(10) and I went to CG last year for dinner. The food, service and atmosphere was great!! Yes it is more expensive than other disney restaurants but you can't beat the view of DW, especially at dark with all the lights and watching illuminations from the balcony. When we had dinner there were many families with children of different ages. I didn't find it particularly loud and even though they tell you that it is "bussiness casual" there were many people wearing shorts and very causaully dressed.
My daughter who actually is a pretty picky eater loved her dinner and I loved sitting back and relaxing after a long day at the park. After dinner we took the MR back to MK and watched the late parade (11 pm) and then went back to our hotel. It was a great evening.

I always confuse California Grill with California Chicken Grill, this dumpy restaurant where you get rice and chicken in a styrofoam box. it's still delish though!!!! :slurp:

I was so hoping to have the same experience that everyone seems to have when they go to CG. Unfortunately for us, it was awful and we're not really ones to complain. The view however was AMAZING. Watching the fireworks was very nice from up here....too bad we had been seated for over an hour when the fireworks started and still did not have our meal. :( The food wasn't that great and the service was the worst that I have had at Disney ever. It must have just been a bad day there because everything went wrong. I am trying to talk my DH into going back again but he won't even discuss it with me.:brick: . I've read only good things about it and really want to try it again.

On thing that I found that worked quite well was letting your server know that you wanted to go out on the observation deck watch the fireworks. We did this on our last trip to CG and it worked out quite well. Wishes fell in between our salads and entrée'. After we finished our salads our server advised us to head out onto the deck. Literally seconds after sitting down after Wishes our entrées hit the table.

I don't think I have ever enjoyed a meal more or left a larger tip than I did that night.

Unfortunately, your experience resembles ours all three times we have been there. Other places are so much better (see my post above), unless you're just going for the view.

We actually did tell our server that we were hoping to be able to see the fireworks. We did get to go out on the deck to see them which was awesome. The food though was just so bad. I "tried" to like it but everyone at the table had the same thought. It was so bad that I can't even remember what we ordered. :(

I'm still hoping to talk my DH into trying it just one more time. His favorite place is Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge.

I have to agree with Ohio. We were not terribly impressed with CG. Not much food for what we were paying. We had Sushi and, honestly we had better. The view was nice for the fireworks. You don't really need to get dressed up for it, although most people do.

I had the $25 (at the time) sushi appetizer (they let me get it with my DDP) and it was GREAT! I would recommend it!
We had an EXCELLENT experience! We didnt get to see the fireworks but we did go out on the deck and look at the view of the Magic Kingdom.
