Rapid Refill.

I read that the ones without a handle are just a trial to get guest feedback and that so far they're only at Saratoga Springs.
I like the handle so hopefully it isn't gone forever.

(who is Stacy?)
Stacy is a hostess of one of those wdw travelogues you only see when watching tv at a wdw resort, usually in your room. I'm sure someone copied it and put it on YouTube. She's...she's chipper...

Back in 2000 bought lifetime refill mugs at POR, they never said who's life though. Wonder what they would say if I took them back now? Did use them on a return trip in 2001.

Thanks for the info! Yea, gotta pay at WDW. Wish it was scaled. So if the average 12 oz can of Coke costs a buck then my family of four will have to drink 66 sodas in three days to make this break even. Ha ha! But I have to have my Rapid Refill!!
You are basically just getting a cool looking mug with drip fed every couple of hours sugar drinks, of which the quantity is smaller every year, to appease your son's hype and not because of value, yes. Lol

Unfortunatley - the average 12 oz can of Coke at Disney is most likely closer to $3 :)
Ah, but if you smuggle the sodas in, you reap endless riches.

Of course, you could just get the huge, free water cups present at every QS, but I mean, pff, water

Stacy is irrelevent. We are just intrigued by her mother because she apparantly "has got it goin' on"

Well look at it this way. There is now a market for "attachable/detachable mug handles" look for them soon on Amazon.

On second thought look for them at a Disney Gift Shop near you......

Love a mug thread. Just stayed at WL and everybody was complaining about the refills not working. I guess you have to wait a certain amount of time before you refill. The CM said just grab a regular cup and dump the soda into your mug. They had stacks of them by the refill station. Another Disney scam thwarted.

You were right the second time. They'll be available for a minor upcharge. They'll have plain, resort specific, and of course...Frozen themed handles.

BTW the cups are harder to reprogram then I thought, I've been working on the hack. LOL. I don't even drink sodas, it's crap that makes you fat and will kill you over time but hacking the system is just to much fun not
How would you hack the cup chips if the Disney park servers were to have all the info on them and all that was on the chips was the ID? I obviously have no idea how their system works but if they're so stingy about nickel and diming people over the years and reducing the quantity of very cheap soda and plastic, they might even have checks to check for modified chips and could ban people from the parks that do that technically fraudulent behavior accordingly. I mean, it takes a little bit to get soda in these machines, right? I'd assume they're checking servers and making sure numbers check out, or at least that's how I'd try to program it if I were an Imagineer with the greedy ceos whipping my back.

The information is stored on the chip in the mug, it says so on the website of the manufacturer. http://www.validfill.com/faq

What information is stored on the RFID tag attached cup?

The RFID tag stores multiple types of information to include the following:

· Cup Type (Hot or Cold)

· Cup Size (in Ounces)

· Company

· Location

· Date Purchased

· Location Purchased

· Number of Times Used

· Number of Refills Remaining (Date or Specific #)

· Time of Last Use

Also, as you can tell from the website, this is a third party product that Universal and Disney have bought, it wasn't created by Imagineers.

I understand that having all that information on a Disney database would cost money, but that seems dumb that they would trust the cup to be unmodified if they're so focused on lowering the amount of soda and plastic each year. It seems totally hackable then, although I'm assuming something would need to scan the cup after each refill to change the data on it if they wanted quicker refills. Hell, if someone successfully figures out a method to hack the cups, it's easy enough to replicate and they distribute the method, Disney has its pants down for a while until they figure out how to detect hacked cups. Although, if they do that and ban people from the parks for trying to use them obviously that nips the problem in the bud pretty quickly and that eliminates any kind of "arms race" for hacked cups.

Again, its not Disney's chips that would be hacked, if someone did hack it then potentially any establishment that used Valid Fill would be open to abuse (including Universal resorts, Disney resorts and many university campuses.

But there isn't that many people with the hardware needed to re-encode the chips and willing to spend the time and effort to get a few dollars worth of soda. Its one of those things where the effort to crack the security probably isn't worth the gains you could get. Maybe if you were a student at a university who used the valid fill system on campus so could get free coffee for a couple of years.
But if you are only spending a few nights a year in a resort hotel, what's the point? As the poster above, some people might like hacking it just for fun, but I doubt many are really trying for free soda.
