My question was about Rapid Fill stations in the parks not refill stations at restaurants that allow free refills.Oh I agree it is stealing. I was just naming the places that have self serve machines since someone asked.

Exactly my point. I wish there was though as it would give added value to the now 18 dollar mugs that I get every trip. There are no RapidFill locations in the parks.
No, but I would certainly expect the local Toyota dealer to change my oil for free. Otherwise, they have violated the terms of our contract. Similarly, if WDW were to sell me a mug that I could bring back and get free refills for life, then very single time that I brought that mug back, I would have every reason to expect my refill to be free.Gee, but wouldn't it be nice if that were true. However, things change and that is probably one of them. Maybe someone might spend thousands of dollars to force Disney to refill them, but, that would be fairly on the stupid side. They were intended for specific resorts only (if they ever really did exists) and what did everyone do? Took them wherever the felt like it and helped themselves. Suppose you bought a Toyota and with that purchase you got a free for live oil change, would you be able to take it to a Buick dealer and get them to give you the oil change?
That would have to be defined on the front end, but it doesn't much matter. If I return with a 'lifetime' mug that I bought previously, then it doesn't matter if it is my lieftime or the mugs since we are both present. What determines "lifetime" your lifetime or the lifetime of the item you purchased?
Just up above, people stated that the mugs are good quality and dishwasher safe. Further, my mug might have sat in my cupboard ever since I bought it. It may never even have gotten filled on my first visit and still be brand new. None of that matters, of course. If someone were to present with one of these lifetime mugs, it should be (and likely would be) happily filled for free.If they were ceramic they would last forever as long as they didn't break. These are plastic, and I would guess a cheap grade of plastic at that. They get cracks, hairline or larger, things seep in to them, bacteria can form and grow in such a place and you want to put that to your lips for decades. They are never intended to last for years and years,
It seems that you have that wrong. If they sold these mugs as having lifetime refills, the expectation would be that people WOULD bring them back on future trips.they also expected that people would not lug those things back and forth every year to get a few dollars worth of free drinks.
You are making a logical leap. In an earlier post, you state that you don't know that these 'lifetime' mugs ever existed. Therefore, you surely don't know whether Disney is still honoring those old mugs. I didn't know the answers to those two questions either, so I went to a cool website that I found. This website allows a person to search gthe internet on just about anything that they are interested in. The website is Google.com. If it catches on, it's going to be a game changer for sure. Anyway, my search quickly turned up this post from another forum:They were wrong, but, that doesn't change anything, they have decided not to do that anymore so sue them. I doubt if anyone would come out ahead in that.
I have one problem with the alleged email response from Disney. It is BRER Fox and BRER Rabbit and BRER Bear (not Briar). Pretty sure a CM who is responsible for email communications would use the correct names. No, but I would certainly expect the local Toyota dealer to change my oil for free. I recently found 4 old mugs from Dixie Landings in the back of the cupboard.Based on this post, we can conclude that lifetime mugs did actually, officially exist and that Disney's position on them is that their 'lifetime' status is to be honored. Further, the email from Disney tells us how to identify lifetime mugs. They were the big fat ones.
We were sure they were purchased as lifetime refills for the one resort but after trawling the Internet for clarification we thought we must have miss understood.
So emailed Disney and thought I would let everyone know the official response incase they have the same mugs. I'm now going to take mine on future trips and benefit from my original deal... I'm not being a cheapskate just making the most of what was offered way back.
Here's the email below
Thank you for contacting us at Walt Disney World Guest Services.
My sincere apologies in misunderstanding the type of mug you were
referencing. The larger mugs that were sold approximately 10 years and
back, are indeed lifetime mugs. They have a red top, and handle and I
believe have Briar Fox, Briar Rabbit and Bear on them. I confirmed with
the Food and Beverage Team at Port Orleans Riverside Resort and they
were very enthusiastic that yes indeed you will be able to use these in
your future visit.
If for any reason you encounter any challenges while at the resort
please do not hesitate to contact my offices.
We look forward to your future visit and hope you have a magical time.
OK, so they existed over a decade ago. Assuming they still are honored, which the note said they were, that would still be only at the resort where they were sold. In this case, Dixie Landing (aka, Port Orleans Riverside Resort). The problem came from people buying those mugs and then going to PoP or the Contemporary and expecting that it should be free there as well. Each Resort that falls under the general heading of WDW Resort is operated fairly independently of each other. One may have a promotion while the other may not have one or participate in it. So, yes if you have one that was purchased at Dixie Landings then you probably can get free drinks.Based on this post, we can conclude that lifetime mugs did actually, officially exist and that Disney's position on them is that their 'lifetime' status is to be honored. Maybe they would, maybe they wouldn't. I'm pretty sure that we've all run into CMs that weren't very knowledgeable.I have one problem with the alleged email response from Disney. What I remember is back in the 90's and into the middle 2000's there were two types of refillable cups...a mug type and a travel cup size. (your choice of type) They came included in the various dining plans (I forget what year they started the dining plans) and were "unlimited" refills. (I always thought the "unlimited" meant "length of stay") I never remember them touted as being "lifetime" but I never officially qualified the defintion. They were resort specific and not one type for all resorts as they seem to be now. I still enjoy looking at them in our curio cabinet....lots of great Disney memories.
