RAPID FILL MUGS

Don't you think that 95% of guests in the value resorts have the dining plan that gives them the mug. Not talking about anyone stealing drinks but mugs not working half the time.
Nope..I don't think that 95% of guests have the dining plan. For many, it's just not worth it. We don't drink soda, so no point in getting the mugs. I just take my own tea or instant coffee and use some hot water. (Wait...am I supposed to purchase a mug for HOT water?)

we stay at the values, mods and deluxe. But we no longer do the dining plan...unless we get it for free. I'm also not adding on $100 worth of plastic mugs. Not worth it for us. We don't drink enough soda/tea/coffee at the resorts to make it worth it.

No. Just cup your hands.

This. I'd say it's more likely that fewer people in the values get the dining plan because many of them are in values because they plan to do WDW as inexpensively as possible, and thus they think the dining plan wouldn't be worth the added cost, as opposed to finding ways to do things on the cheap. Since WDW allows food to be brought in, people who are trying to be truly frugal have no reason to feel a need to prepay for food if they think it's cheaper to bring their own or eat offsite.

Besides, the mugs are only good at the resorts. DH and I are not the kind to come back to the room once we've left for the day... and with breakfast, he got a Monster everyday, and I got a kid's meal which came with a small bottle of water, so the mugs would have been wasted on us.

My granddaughter got a Mug at Typhoon Lagoon last weekend and she told me for refills on another day there is an activation fee of $6.50. I wasn't there so I don't know the details, but I assume they are only good at the water parks because It says Water Parks on the side in the design.

Yes those are water park specific mugs. They have always done the buy the mug bring it back and buy a reactivation sticker. We have the old mugs which were much larger and they still let you buy new re-activation stickers for those.

The people who are annoyed are the ones who have been using the same stale cup for a few years, since they finally just changed the design on the mug. I, personally, have dozens of mugs because I get new ones each time. I miss the old wider resort specific ones...I have a bunch of those, too. We really only use the mug in the am for coffee or lemonade and then again at night when we return from the parks. We do not lug it all day since it cannot be refilled anywhere anyway. So to me, the system is good.

You know, this brings up an interesting point. IMO it would make more sense if Disney allowed this as an option on older mugs at the resorts as well... maybe a "length of stay" sticker for a few dollars cheaper if you don't need to buy a new mug. Save Disney from having to restock their inventory as much, and they would still get as much profit, maybe even more, because some might be more willing to pay for drinks for the week if they could bring their own mug and make it a few dollars cheaper. Clearly it's possible if they can sell the sticker at the water park.

cw1982 I agree 100%. Last year since we were at AoA for two full weeks we bought the mugs. But they didn't have the time limit. But we knew we would be enjoying the resort more...using the mug more.

Water fountains are free all day long and there's never a line.

There's never a line because who wants to drink lukewarm swampwater that tastes plain nasty.

I thought the waterparks had switched over to the RFID chips now too but I must have been mistaken about that. Anyway the old UPC stickers they used to use on the water park mugs were coded to the day of the week. On our trip in June 2013. We were at Typhoon Lagoon on Tuesday and bought a mug. Happened to be back there on the next Tuesday and bought another mug because both my daughters wanted one as a souvenir. Noticed the UPC tags were the same and sure enough, both mugs worked that day. I guess I didn't feel bad about using both mugs as the two kids didn't drink anymore soda than they would have if we only used the mug we had bought that second day. Just less trips to the machine.

Although I suppose I should maybe feel guilty about letting them share the mug period. I don't remember seeing anything about it being against the rules to share among a family but perhaps that is a given.

Oh well I won't buy the mugs anymore anyway. They have gotten too small to be anything but a nuisance anymore anyway. No good to take them to the parks as you can't get them refilled there anyway and then you are stuck carrying them around, we generally like to try and stay further away from the main resort building to get a little peace and quiet so it's too far a walk to get 12 oz. of soda, we can buy soda at Publix or Target and keep it in the fridge in the room cheaper, and I don't drink much soda anymore anyway.

But this thread is still a hoot. Who knew there was this much passion about this issue!

Tobe our last trip to the water parks was 2013 July/August...I can't tell you how many times people stopped my husband and asked where he snagged his huge #$% mug! Their words not mine. lol I like a lot of ice so by the time you add ice its more like a sip in the new mugs. We drive down and always have drinks in the room anyway. To be honest I didn't see too many people using mugs at our resorts the last trip. And I for sure don't understand the people who lug them around in the parks all day long just so they can grab a drink at the resort before going back to their room. no way am I going to be bothered hauling anything ....especially clunky plastic mugs jut to grab a small drink at the end of the day.

Define "Resort" as well. We used our refillable mugs that we bought this year at the Beach Club Resort at several self service kiosks in all the parks, which are part of the self proclaimed "Walt Disney World Resort." Given our kids don't like soda, and we had plenty of room in our bag, my wife and I kept them with us in the parks.

The resorts are the hotels, exclusive of the parks. Walt Disney World Resort is a vacation destination with individual resorts (hotels), theme parks, water parks and shopping district. In no way is a theme park a resort but are part of the WDW resort as a whole.

Doesn't matter anymore anyway unless they don't have the cup readers in the parks, if not and it's still being done then that is listed under the criminal code as "Grand Theft Soda".

Where are those self service kiosks in the parks? I have never seen them but would have gladly carried our mugs into the parks if they truly existed in February when we were there.
