RAPID FILL MUGS

Where are those self service kiosks in the parks? I have never seen them but would have gladly carried our mugs into the parks if they truly existed in February when we were there.

I was wondering the same thing. I didn't go inside many qs places in June, but the ones I went to in the parks did not have self serve drinks. I only saw those at my hotel.

I was assuming it was the quick service food locations, but, that is a good point. I don't remember seeing anything like that in the parks. Water parks, maybe, but no place else.

There are two at epcot - Sunshine and the Land. HS at the Backlot Express. AK at Resturansoraus (I love that place). I have read the BOG has a open pop machine for dining guests but I am not sure? I am still waiting to get my lunch FP+ btw :)

If there's only one or two places per park that have them, I would think lugging those cups around all day would still be more of a pain than it's worth lol.

I didn't see the machines at BoG but I wasn't looking for them either.

Don't drink soft drinks anyway. Never seen anyone abuse drinks. Most of the mugs that I see adults using are for coffee in the morning. Kids might get 1 or 2 drinks but to lug them around all day I think not.
But people were stealing drinks by bringing old refillable mugs and using them. BTW, I knew they old because Dixie Landings has been renamed for many years and I also recognized the mugs from 2007. I get one every year so I know old ones. I buy a new one every year because I don't steal and want to set a good example for my kids. I also saw people filling up water bottles with soda. People brought this on themselves.

I do not think that is fair - there is an extended thread with people (including myself) that disagree with rapid refill so then we should all be banned?
No one should be banned for speaking about things that are important to them as long as they keep the language clean. So I agree with you that you have a right to your opinion.

I guess I'm confused at how this works. When we went two weeks ago we had the rapid refill mugs. I didn't see any kind of scanner or whatever on the drink stations. They looked and acted like regular drink stations.

The RFID readers are under the surface where you set your cup while it's filling. You can't really see them. The more recently updated machines have a little LCD display on the front of them, above the fountains. I'm not sure if all of them do.

If you were in a theme park, you wouldn't have seen this setup.

Assuming that there ever was a "lifetime" mug and I have yet to see any evidence of that, it was for the resort that they were purchased in. It would have been a promotion to get you to go back to THAT resort.

The fact of the matter is that IF they did exists, they haven't for a very long time, but, people were using mugs bought a long time after that would have happened. Just because things happened in the past doesn't automatically mean that the rules don't change from time to time. As old as those mugs would be now, I would think that the board of health would confiscate them.

I used to pay 27 cents a gallon for gasoline when I was a teen, I don't think anyone will let me do that anymore. Things change! We cannot make up our own rules as we go along.

It does not really matter where they are in the parks because the mugs are only for use at the hotels, using them at the parks is stealing, and this is what caused t the whole rapid fill thing to be inflicted upon us in the first place.
Oh I agree it is stealing. I was just naming the places that have self serve machines since someone asked.

Still one needs to add to that information that if the in park self serve machines are, as I suspect, all connected with the RFID strips, it would do them no good anyway.

I know that this infraction isn't a world stopping event, nor is it overly alarming when measured against some of those serious things. However, I tried when my kids were little and still today to understand that they sell that stuff and to take it, regardless of how little it cost someone, was dishonest. Because of that I have always paid for what I used. When I went in and paid 2.50 for a cup of soda and then turned around to see somebody filling a gallon jug with "free" soda, it tends to make me angry.

The ones in the parks are not RFID enabled right now...well, they weren't when we went May 31 - June 8. Well, they didn't have a time limit on them the way the ones in the hotel resorts do. But if people start bringing their mugs for free sodas in the parks I could see them change those over as well.

I am not one to carry the mugs around all day and in the grand scheme of things I'd rather just pay the $3 for the occasional soda vs. carrying around a mug all day in the hopes of snagging a free soda.

If the guest bought a 'lifetime' mug, it wouldn't matter if the rules changed. The guest would still be right to expect to be able to use it.

When you make yourself a meal at home, do you not wash your dishes and reuse them later? Would it not be possible, even likely, that a person would keep using the same dishes for decades?

Gee, but wouldn't it be nice if that were true. However, things change and that is probably one of them. Maybe someone might spend thousands of dollars to force Disney to refill them, but, that would be fairly on the stupid side. They were intended for specific resorts only (if they ever really did exists) and what did everyone do? Took them wherever the felt like it and helped themselves. Suppose you bought a Toyota and with that purchase you got a free for life oil change, would you be able to take it to a Buick dealer and get them to give you the oil change? What determines "lifetime", your lifetime or the lifetime of the item you purchased?

If they were ceramic they would last forever as long as they didn't break. These are plastic, and I would guess a cheap grade of plastic at that. They get cracks, hairline or larger, things seep in to them, bacteria can form and grow in such a place and you want to put that to your lips for decades. They are never intended to last for years and years, they also expected that people would not lug those things back and forth every year to get a few dollars worth of free drinks. They were wrong, but, that doesn't change anything, they have decided not to do that anymore so sue them. I doubt if anyone would come out ahead in that.
