This may be a silly question but where can I get a cheap rain poncho? I do not want to buy the disney ones they are expensive. Do they sell them at walmart?

Walmart, target and just about any Dollar Store sell them. We have a collection of Disney ones and I keep a set in my car, just in case.

Just FYI the ones at Wal Mart, Dollar tree and the like are about as thin as saran wrap. They are perfect to keep in the bottom of your backpack "just in case", but they won't make it through more then one or two wearings.

If you get there and it's raining a lot, it's probably time to invest in some Mickey ones.:)

we bought a couple of the dollar tree packs thinking it wouldn't rain that much. If anyone was there last Sunday, you know it didn't only rain, it poured and for a long time. The ponchos were thin, but we were still mostly dry considering. We tried to take cover when we could and dash for our destination (Lunch ADR and then bus) during breaks though, so I am sure if we we still walking the park we would have been wetter. I think that they would have been fine for typical FL weather though.

Walmart sell some that are really cheap (like $1) and also some that are for camping that are more heavy duty. The Walmart here sells bright orange ones for camping that are on par with WDW's ponchos, but you'll stand out like an orange in a sea of lemons.

search around--you can find cheap ones made out of the same material as the ones Disney sells. Don't waste your money on the trash bag ones. Depending on the time of year, you can find them at Walgreens (moreso in March).

Dollar store. I buy them up - white, yellow, red - Disney colors if I can but I try to get clear when I can. If they rip, who cares - it was only a $1. :)

All those dollar store ones are good in a pinch, and for the 20 minute FL rainstorms. But if you try to wear them (or the WDW ones) for more than a half hour, they become personal saunas.

We use the cheap fifty cent ones from Big Lots or wherever. We consider them as one use and done, that way we don't have to try to deal with wet poncho's that have to dry out or stink. The other nice thing about them is they will fit into most peoples back pocket.

I agree that the Mickey Ponchos are expensive, albeit, pretty cool. However, I would buy one of the heavier ponchos from, either, wal-mart or Target. The dollar ones are very thin and easily wind blown. You can buy heavier ones in the sporting goods section at wal mart, for sure. I think they are about 3 bucks or so. Go with the heavier one. Plus, you can wear it on Splash Mountain and Kali......

I remember I was at Epcot one August and the weather was perfect all day. Then around 6pm it started getting dark then all of a sudden a HUGE rainstorm came. All of the stores pulled out the yellow rain ponchos and in less than 10 minutes, everyone in my vicinity had purchased one. Less than 10 minutes later the sun was back out and it didnt rain again for the next 7 days.

Oh so true. We have the cheap ones for the quick rain showers, just bought 3 the other day for our trip, easy enough to have in the backpack and no lugging them around. I liked my Mickey one I bought several years ago, it ripped after 3 trips at the neck. Haven't bought one since, was usually fortunate to only have the 10 mins showers I could stay out of.

Honestly, I also just buy the disney ones because they will generally last. I have some that are ten years old and they have been worn many times and they have no rips in them or anything. Those things never even come out of the suitcase so we never forget to pack them.

And don't forget the awesome smell they have!
Ahh yes. The plastic drop cloth smell. Honestly, I try to avoid wearing them. They cut off at the knees so your top half is all sweaty and your bottom half is wet and cold. I just wear a rain proof pullover thingy and a hat. I also do that "walk under every awning and walk through every store" thing until you get to the next ride.:)
