a couple of questions if anyone can help -

we are looking into the quick service plan but normally only eat breakfast and dinner and have a snack at lunch time - is it possible to use it in this way?

If staying at a moderate, you get the regular TS dining plan. It comes with snack, Qs, and TS each day. The only way you get just a QS plan is at value resorts. Like the poster above linked, there are currently deals going on for november. So take it if they are offering it. Get your breakfast, snack and dinner anyway you can. It's free, but not really.

Quick service is the way to go!!! No having to be somewhere at a specific time--but if you have the reg dining plan you can use your sit down for a quick service!!

Personally, the qs plan is not enough food for me.
If you get the quick service plan, for breakfast, you can get a platter at your hotel; Eggs, bacon, biscuit and some juice.

For your snack, you can get a dole whip, ice cream bar, pastry etc. Small items.

For dinner, you can get a sandwich and chips, burger and fries etc. The meal will come with a small dessert like a chocolate cake.

if you think that is enough food for you, then the QS plan is perfect for you.

Also, you might want to do some price comparisons. In all of my calculations, the Quick Service plan was mostly a convenience factor, it didn't really save any money at all. (Unlike the regular Dining Plan, where you can at least save *some* money if you work at it) And my calculations were using it for lunch and dinner, not breakfast and dinner. You might not get a full value if you do it that way.

So it might work out for you to get it, or you might just be better off saving up your money and paying for your meals out of pocket. Or the trade off for the convenience factor might be worth it for you. Only you can answer those questions.

I agree with all. I've got the QS plan for November because it was "given" to us....we plan on upgrading and paying a little out of pocket to go to the regular DDP. We feel it is well worth it based on our plans for where we want to eat, where our ADR's are....etc etc. Once you sit down and look at menus, do price comparisons - you'll know which plan suits you best! :)

Get ahold of a travel agent...They can tell you as soon as they know ( you do not have to book with them!)...I love the dining plans! That is when we go now days! I get 1 snack, 1 counter service and sit down plan. This gives us chances to try or go to places we usually would never have the chance to go to. I hear that there a lighter version of this.

I think you should pick the dining plan that works for how you travel. Do you like to sit down for dinner or just grab a quick bite where you are? My DH and I like to dine at a TS restaurant so we for us, we get the dining plan with 1 CS, 1 TS, and 1 snack. The QS dining plan wouldn't work for us. But I have had a friends who just want to grab a meal where ever they are so they get the QS because that works for them and how they do WDW.

The only time I get the QS plan is if it is free. It's just too much food for our family and isn't worth it if we had to pay for it. Also, we usually just get a quick bite at where ever we are at at the time and don't want to have to be at a certain place at a certain time. If we get a meal plan it is QS. It just depends on your needs.

bottom line; if it's free we get it. If we had to pay for it, it's cheaper for us to pay as we go.

I have found this to be the case as well. The QS plan is fine if it is free, but paying for it is ill advised. I have run the numbers myself and you can "save" money on it, but you really have to work at it by knowing where the most expensive items are and specifically ordering them. If you go where you want and order what you want you will more than likely be leaving money on the table at the end of your trip.

There are many factors to look at. Who is going? Just you and your spouse or other adults or will kids be going. Also how much do you typically eat at a meal. We have done DDP with QS and we have done the TS plan as well as pay as we go. I think QS offers plenty of food, but I also don't usually eat dessert so that is an extra. We did lots of research before going to get the most out of our plan. Also my kids don't always eat a lot so we could order 1 kids meal and two of them share it. My son who is 19 loves it bc it is so much food and he can eat as many snacks as he wants.

There are several factors to consider that aren't about whether we get our money's worth.(with all the plan levels):
  • Convenience-paid for, I don't have to make sure I have allocated enough funds for trip/brought enough cash, etc.
  • If I didn't do meal plan, I would always order the cheapest thing on the menu-with the meal plan I can order whatever-most expensive, middle or cheapest.
  • I don't have to hover over everyone else's choices to make sure it fits in the budget.
  • We have grown kids (21 and 18) that have been running off during the QS part of our plan and getting what they want to eat and where for awhile. Sometimes they are even in different parks. This way, I don't have to make sure they have money, money on a gift card or charging privileges on their KTTW-.
  • Just peace of mind-that there is one less monetary thing to worry about.

Noticed your from the UK. If you stay at a moderate then QS dining plan is free for 2012 and you still get 2 snacks per person per day.If you decide on a deluxe it's TS plan.Check your travel brochures.Have just returned from 14 days of eating free with DW & DS and 84 snacks was way too much.Had to declare 34 snacks at Sanford.:)

Yes, promos offered to UK guests often differ, both in the dates covered and in the details. For US guests free dining desn't start until the 25th, and gives the regular DDP to guests at deluxes and mods.
