You can always go to DTD from the Contemp then catch a bus to your resort.

MK seems to be open until 11 or 12 nightly, even without EMH. Between the option of heading to DTD and catching the monorail to MK and then doing the bus from there, I would think you'd definitely have options with an 8pm reservation.

I'm pretty sure that it's common routine for Disney to run buses from parks to hotels 1-2 hours after park closing, meaning 10 or 11pm if the park closes at 9 that night. The question is, will the monorail continue to be running to and from MK so you can go back to get on your resort bus from the Contemporary. I'm pretty sure but don't quote me. Call and ask to be sure.

When are you going?

Edit: never mind, I just saw your countdown. I was on this site from my phone earlier so I couldn't see your signature.

Looks like @hakunamatata had the best idea shy of paying cab fees.

The Contemporary is a 10-ish-minute walk to/from the MK. Even if for some reason the monorails aren't still operating when the OP is done with dinner, she can still walk. And in fact, if the monorails ARE running, the walk might still be faster unless she can immediately jump on a monorail as soon as she gets to the platform. Because the resort monorail travels the opposite direction, to the TTC, then Poly, then GF then MK.

Either way, buses should be running at least an hour after park closes. And while the countdown doesn't seem to be counting down for me, it looks like the OP is arriving August 25. If she's planning to dine there the first night, according to Disney's website, the MK won't be closing until 10pm that night, so you figure the buses will run until at least 11.

But if that fails, then as hakunamatata wrote, busing to DtD is an option. Depending on where the OP is staying, it may even be as good of an option as the MK (for example, staying at Saratoga Springs especially, but also Old Key West or the Port Orleans resorts, all of them so close to DtD that buses tend to run to/from DtD more frequently than other resort buses.

I looked at the rest of the week... that's the only night that week that MK is open until 10. The rest of the week it is 9, so I'm guessing the ADR is for a different night.
Huh, that's not what I'm seeing. Assuming the OP is arriving on the 25th, and staying a week, closing times at Mk are
T-9
W-9
Th-10
F-7 (Hard ticket event? Maybe?)
S-10
S-10 (and EMH till midnight)
M-7 (again, hard ticket event? Maybe?)

If the OP is indeed staying for a week starting Mon 8/25, I'd suggest seeing if she can get reservations for a dinner on 8/30, then go back to MK for the EMH. No worries about getting a bus back home that night.

Yeah, I may not have looked far enough in the calendar. I was clicking the arrows to scroll through the days on the WDW site, but my computer has been doing some goofy things on that site lately so maybe there was a glitch on my end.

While the park closes at 9, I think Wishes is also scheduled to go off at 9...i.e. people will be in the park after the slated park closing. We've usually seen transportation extended beyond the 1hr post closing mark when this happens since it's not like the park is being shuttered right at 9.

As mentioned, buses run at least 1 hour past park close, usually much closer to 2 hours. From the contemporary it's almost definitely quicker to walk to the MK buses than to take the monorail if its still running at that point. Since wishes doesn't start until 9 that day, they will expect people to be wrapping up shopping and dining in park til after 10. As long as you don't take longer than 2 hours to eat you should be fine. And as pointed out you could either do the Contemp->DTD->Your Resort bus game, or pay $20max to take a cab if the buses somehow are done when you finish up.
