Question about Imagination

I like the current ride too. It's not nearly as good as the original, but it has it's moments.

"It's always a good time to use your imagination! So, let the good times ROLL!" (turns into a skunk) "Woo-hoo! You win one SCENT!"

Then you try to figure out how to continuously fix a rotataing stage that was on troublesome levels...
Disney does have the Omnimover ride system that continually moves (heck, JII was an omni, sort of). With how much technology has advanced, I'm sure they'd have fewer problems now than they did then.

Wasn't the problem with JII that the cars getting on the turntable would slow down the other cars? Or was it a combination of that and the cars not locking in to the turntable correctly?

I also need to see Figment a few times each trip. When I'm in Imagination I always look up the stairs and think about the past and what could have been still.

We never saw the first version, but DD loves the current version & it's her favorite thing in EPCOT. She started pin trading on our last trip & she collects two kinds: Figment & Duffy.

The original Imagination ride wasn't just the omnimover. The entire ride rotated on a turntable. It was a maintenance nightmare. I'm sure that in 2015 they could find a much better way to rebuild the original, but I'm not sure they want to.

Looking at the condition of that space, this seems unlikely. I believe someone had mentioned that it is sometimes used by Imagineering as a test area.
four years ago, we were traveling with my son's HS band to WDW. On our Epcot day, as chaperone's we got to go up to the upstairs and watch the kids participate in a new test, then they asked my wife and I to also take part! Best part was, the Imagineers signed my oldest son's shirt we were passing around for his birthday. But the area was totally empty except for curtains and tables and such.

Well, not the entire ride. The section when Dreamfinder is met and Figment is introduced rotated with the vehicles. This allowed for a show scene that "stayed with" the vehicles for a longer scene while allowing the vehicles to continue to move along.

Maybe if they used the trackless technology Tokyo's Pooh ride is famous for, and had a larger room that could allow more cars, we could get around this problem?

Probably, but if my info is correct about both the existing building and the trackless technology, a complete demolition of the building would be necessary for it to go trackless.

What could possibly go wrong if that were to happen?;)

I'm aware of the two separate systems. I was attempting to make an analogy between two continually moving mechanisms.

Thanks for all the help!

Does anyone know any sites that go into minute detail on the different versions? Something like this site based on Snow White's Scary Adventures.

http://www.kennetti.fi/snowwhitescaryadventures.html

Like for example, in the current version when you see the eye exam, what exactly was in that space in the Journey Into Your Imagination version?
