Question about DLP Castle

It does look different. I heard that they had to make it look special because there are already so many castles in Europe. Isn't called Le Chateau?

And its a beauty build after the German Schloss Neuschwanstein.

The Imagineers realised early on in the devlopment for (what was then called EuroDisney) that with so many real castles around people would not pay to see a disney one unless it was very different. this is why they opted to go for a "fairytale" design to make it strikingly different to the real castles around europe.

"Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant" is it`s full name, and what a great building it is too. The attention to detail, lighting, design - all stunning. Upstairs is a balcony (supported by `stone` stree branches) which also leads outside, overlooking Fantasyland, and the `basement` has the Dragon AA - a mini show in itself.

I just translated the name "Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant" on the web and it translates to "The Castle of Beautiful with Dormant Wood"

The web translator can't always distinguish which bits go together. "la Belle au Bois" by itself is "the Beauty in the Woods", "Le Chateau de" is The Castle of" and "Dormant" is "Sleeping".

Machine translations have never mastered the nuances of language. As a result, I'll have gainful employment for many years to come! :sohappy:

I never thought much of the DLP castle when looking at it in photos - it always looked a bit of a runt.

But when I saw it in real life, it was a different matter, it seems to grow out of the ground around it. I've still to see a photo that does it justice.

I wish they would build the other princess' castles. The Paris one should have been Belle's. Tokyo's should have been Snow White's. Hong Kong should have gotten Ariel's. The next MK park built could get Jasmine's. An Arabian palace would be a little weird though. Maybe it could be the entrance to Adventureland instead of Fantasyland.

The name confused me as well, I originally thought it was Belles castle. :)

It does in fact look a lot like the castle from Beauty and the Beast (1991), after the transformation when the spell was lifted. Perhaps due to the fact that the movie was being made while DLP was being designed and built! :animwink:

Ariel's already does have a castle, which is at Tokyo DisneySea.

I once heard that every park had it's own princess castle, but I only hear now it is just either Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. But the paris castle does look like it is from Beauty and the Beast, also since that movie took place in France.

technically, so did Sleeping Beauty.

Anyway, I think the DL castle looks more like Snow White's castle due largely to the fact that it was inspired by the German castle Neuswchwannstein. And i've read somewhere that it was inded supposed to be called Snow White's Castle before it was gonna be Sleeping Beauty.

The Paris Castle looks nothing like the Beast's Castle and is much more inspired by Sleeping Beauty, most telling because it is on the side of a hill, the same way Sleeping Beauty's castle is from the movie.

Originally, Paris was supposed to have 3 castles, the main one from Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast's Castle for the B&B attraction that was supposed to be there, and King Triton's Castle for the Little Mermaid Dark ride.

Only Ariel's was built but not in Disneyland Paris but in Tokyo DisneySea, this time as the entrance to her own land.
