Question about American terminology

Hi - I just added a post concerning baby's cribs, where I used the word C O T, which is the word we always use in the UK. It was blanked out so I changed it to crib. Is this an offensive word in the US?

nope, here it means a small portable bed (among a few other things). There is a filter on the software used on this site and it may be close to a word that is not acceptable.

–noun 1.a light portable bed, esp. one of canvas on a folding frame. 2.British. a child's crib. 3.a light bedstead. 4.Nautical. a hammocklike bed stiffened by a suspended frame.

also

1.a small house; cottage; hut. 2.a small place of shelter. 3.a sheath or protective covering, as for an injured finger or toe.

Not offensive, but it implies the canvas bed soldiers sleep on rather than a crib here. I assume the filter was being over-aggressive.

But back to the point...in America when we use that word we're talking about this

And that is pretty offensive if you ask me. Who sleeps in a green bed??? How evil.

This is actually really driving me crazy because now I'm trying to think of any possible profane word that sounds or looks like cot.

Since this thread started...cot alone now looks like a dirty word to me...and it's not even a dirty word....I don't think....

Yet you wrote it here and it couldn't be done in the original thread.

______ ______

EDIT:
and yet I typed it with a lower case and upper case c and its blanked.

That is really confusing. I can't think how that word would be offensive.

The word "C0T" is not offensive. However, there is some forum history associated with the word which required the boss to impose a level of filtering several years ago.

Crapcot :lookaroun
