Two things:

#1- Puerto Rico will never become a state. Or an independent nation. The island will never have a consensus without those invested in statehood or independence having to resort to trickery, like what happened during the last referendum with the pro-statehood camp.

#2- The Puerto Rican government doesn't have the funds to sponsor a long-term pavilion. Nor do any Puerto Rican companies. The economy on the island is in shambles.

If this happens, expect pandemonium on the island.

Thanks for bringing us back to reality!

That has been brought up so many times in Congress. It's almost like beating a dead horse.

I can see this happening, their F&W is practically a pavilion.
Even if that happens, PR is so set apart and different from America that it could easily be it's own thing. It has it's own culture completely. It's kind of like Hawaii - yes it's a part of America but they could easily have their own pavilion bc it's so distinct and unique.
I know, but it would be a little odd to start to fill up WS with states instead of countries. And I know it would most likely never happen, I was just throwing a little hypothetical out there.

I was hoping you'd chime in.

Well, to be fair, Puerto Rico has been a US territory longer than any other, but unlike the others, at the time of its forcible annexation (invasion), it had its own established legal system, parliamentary representation, funcioning economy (albeit mainly agricultural), cultures, language, and style of like. Unlike every other US teritory that was annexed through invasion - the population was never replaced by anglo-americans, as is the modus operandi of the US. I believe it's because no white Americans in 1898 wanted to go to a land full of brown people and malaria.

McKinley was a terrible president.

No, sorry. I don't want this. I loved Puerto Rico when I visited. Really, I fell in love with the island. But it is part of the United States. It's culturally very similar. It does not fit into World Showcase. Make a pavilion based on another Caribbean island, not one that may become a state. I don't believe this rumor.

Thinking more about it, Banco Popular could easily afford it - but Disney already has a banking sponsor, AND with BPPR killing its mainland US operations bit by bit, there wouldn't be a tangible benefit.

Then there's Goya. But they're actually from New Jersey. Bacardí? They do manufacture in Puerto Rico =- but they're really a bahamian based cuban corporation.

And the government is trying to attract a more affluent person to the island... to invest tons and stay. Which while those people do go to WDW, it's more cost effective to just send a trade delegation to Monaco and Hong Kong.

It's culturally compatible, but not similar. Like Canada.

Also, it'll never be a state.

Hey buddy, my vehicle is festooned with William McKinley bumper stickers!
