Puck style MagicBand 2 is official

I am an AP who visits 5 to 6 times yearly. I have always been able to charge all my purchases (food and merch) to my Magic Band on my last day after I have checked out of my resort room. My last day charges are billed separately from the charges incurred prior to checkout, but my band has always worked for last day charges.

Thanks for posting this. You know, my wife and I most likely never even tried to use the bands for purchases on our last day...we just assumed that since we already checked-out and received our folio of charges that the "account" was closed. Good to know...thanks again.

Your MagicBand can absolutely act as a credit/debit card; you don't need to carry one.
If you were expecting your MagicBand to act as your drivers' license, that's an odd request. Were you expecting to store your photo ID on it, and show it to cops when pulled over?

Bzzt WRONG

I can see that you are not DVC or had an Annual Pass / TiW Card

To get into DVC functions you need your DVC membership card - MB does not work
To claim DVC Discount you need DVC Membership card and Photo ID - MB Does not work
To claim AP Parking you need your AP / AP Parking card - MB Does not work
To claim AP Discount you need AP + Photo ID - MB Does not work
To claim TiW Discount you need TiW + Photo ID - MB Does not work

You need a Credit Card to carry you through Disney's frequent MB outages because it's unwise to assume Disney will comp things during a MB system outage.

You need a Photo ID as in FL LEO's can demand you produce photo ID at ANY time.

So I'd say MB as the ONLY thing you need at Disney is a FAILURE as it does not obviate the need to carry ID/Credit/Membership cards for many people. And becomes one more inconveniently shaped object that you need to carry.

So... What exactly is the "more magic" that can allegedly be unlocked with this redesigned MagicBand? Oh, you mean it's just more PR BS? I thought so...
The point is to have the puck be able to be put into other accessories. I don't get why they're not going to sell just sleeves if these are meant to be more modular and you want the same accoun with another sleve.

This new design may help cut down on the number of bands (old-style) that people have.
IF the puck can be easily changed, you could just get a new band (if needed/desired), then pop in the puck. Rather than having multiple bands all linked to your account, which I've heard can cause some back-end technical issues if you have too many.
That would be fine but at the moment Disney has said you're not going to be able purchase sleeves on their own.

Don't think this has been posted yet, but the below page has some interesting new details on the new Magic Band 2...

http://www.magicbandcollectors.com/...w-magicband-2-including-release-date-details/

Additionally, some images of key chain/carabiner type holders for the icon/puck...

Not to sound rude, but these are literally the first 2 links posted in the thread, the one being the very first post of the thread...

I'm going to put one in a belt buckle. Imagine what that will look like when I need to scan it...

Children, avert your eyes!
There are those belt clips that function like retractable measuring tapes. You basically pull it from your belt from the string attatched to bring it to the scanner spot and when you're done you let go and the string retracts. A lot of corporate offices that require IDs at every door have been using this type of thing for a while.

I GUARANTEE Disney will supply a varient of this gadget within the first year.

I didn't look but is the power output on puck band substantially more than previous generations? I know the most frequent obstacle we had when using them was the fact that they were so underpowered it became problematic to use to get into your room, use at a POS, or worst off use at the hotel gate readers. Honestly, I wished they would have found away to make it work with Apple or any other NFC device. With the exception of the pools and waterparks I carry my phone everywhere.

Umm, the power part is only for the long range sensors at attractions. The RFID that gets you into the room, or use at a POS, or park entry is not powered at all, and will actually work forever, or until they change the tech.

Do you have a lot of active MBs on your MDE account? That has been known to cause issues. If so, then deactivate all but one or two of them, and you should be much better off.

I think that tie-in with smartphones is coming in the future. I agree it would be nice as well. I can already use my iPhone to pay for anything at WDW, so why not the rest of the capabilities?

You need a Photo ID as in FL LEO's can demand you produce photo ID at ANY time.

I will address these things. I've never needed my ticket for parking, I always use my magic band. I however have only been asked twice for ID, and since I'm the driver I had it on me and showed it, most of the other times I'm not asked. Point is I definitely don't need a parking card, nor have I ever heard of it to be honest.

As for the FL LEO thing, you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT have to carry an ID with you at all times. What you are REQUIRED to do is identify yourself when asked by the police. If they say "Excuse me sir, who are you?" you are required by law to say "Pringo McFartland" of course you would substitute your real name in there, unless of course your name actually is Pringo McFartland, in which case I'm sorry for you. You do not constitutionally have to carry identification since this is not Nazi Germany, however you DO have to reveal who you are when asked by an authorized LEO. This was I decided by the Supreme Court sometime in the last 10 years I believe.

While it is technically true that you do not have carry ID with you ... I can firmly say with 6 years of experience working at LE in the state of Florida that you need to have some kind of state/gov't issued ID with you anytime there is a non zero chance you'll encounter a LEO. Because trust me, those LEOs don't know/don't care that you legally don't have to carry ID.

When people say 'REQUIRED' - they mean to FUNCTION - not as if it were some law. Get a grip

And yes, you do need to identify yourself to police, and if you aren't carrying any ID to reasonably do so.. you might find yourself detained for a good bit... a problem all solved by VOLUNTARILY carrying that ID.

While the rest of us grown adults realize that carrying ID is good because it reduces problem. And while inside Disney, the magic band hasn't eliminated all other reasons for ID for things even inside Disney's control.

In a nutshell that's what's wrong with the MB it was SOLD as the only thing you need to carry in a Disney park, yet that's not the reality you still need everything you had before plus an inconveniently shaped token

I've stopped plenty of people who haven't carried ID. The best part is when they supply a name that has an active warrant. If the height and weight are close, they get a free ride in the back of a car. Once we use a fingerprint scanner to determine who they are, they may or may not "Be our Guest" ( see what I did there). Having an ID saves time.
