In a nutshell that's what's wrong with the MB it was SOLD as the only thing you need to carry in a Disney park, yet that's not the reality you still need everything you had before plus an inconveniently shaped token
You really do like to stretch reality, don't you. ;) They never said it's the ONLY thing you need to carry, just that you don't need anything else for park entry, FP+, and, if staying at a Disney resort, any POS terminal. They have never said that you don't need ID. They have never said that if you want discounts that you don't have to carry a separate card, like an AP or DVC membership card. They have NEVER stated any such thing. If you don't care about the discounts, or are not eligible for them, then yes, you can visit the parks with nothing more than a driver's license and a MB.

And if you're not planning on drinking alcohol, you don't need the driver's license. I've never had a CM ask me for proof of identity when using my MagicBand to pay for things in stores or for using my dining credits.

Good point, and very true, and even though I am well north of 50 and don't get carded anymore, I always carry my ID cards.

True, but having ID is probably a good idea in case of sudden hospitalization or other bad things.

My wife has gone into the parks with nothing but a magic band and a driver's license in the park. (I typically sherpa a camera, camera bag, phone, spare charger, ponchos, etc.)

Please recall Staggs/Rasulo touting the MB as the ONLY thing you need at a Disney Park prior to launching this abomination, And with a halfway competent implementation team it COULD have been. But the implementation and rollout has been a disaster of epic proportions and Disney still has resort wide outages of the system.

Every time you ask for a AP or DVC discount the clerk wants to see the AP/DVC card and your photo ID.

And they are absolutely correct. You can go to a Disney park carrying nothing but a MB. Please read what I wrote.

IF you are eligible and want discounts, then yes, you have to carry another card. Most people AREN'T eligible for any, so don't need a separate card.
IF you appear to be underage, you will need an ID to drink alcohol. Of course, I carry ID no matter what, as everyone should. They NEVER claimed that you shouldn't carry an ID with you. Can you ever get real?

Yes, and that is NEVER going to change. Why? Because of butt head cheaters that try to get away with everything under the sun, such as switching MBs with someone that doesn't merit a discount, with someone that does, just so they can save a few pennies. If it weren't for cheaters, we could all have nicer things.

Since my AP renewal this past Spring I no longer get the little discount card with my MB box. 2015 Renewal was last time I had the discount card that also has an expiration date on it BTW. When using AP discounts I now have to pull up Passholder area of My Disney Experience to get discounts, not optional. I no longer need ID like last Jan/Feb timeframe. I still carry it though. I kinda feel like the cash guy on those Visa credit card commercials. LOL

Also, no longer have to go to Will Call, etc. to activate AP's after renewing online. This has been consistent for me and I'm in the parks about once or twice a month, except Summer and other Blackout times. Another side note. I no longer allow my kids to make their own purchases and try to use discount cause they require ID for kids too, as young as 5 in my case. At the time, after I told them that it is ridiculous to require ID for kids they either waived it or I just used my MB information.

Speaking of cheaters. When we were at MK last weekend I overheard a couple at the exterior Guest Relations by the ticket turnstiles. They were trying to get free entry into Mickeys Very Merry Event. They were claiming that they just spent over $450 on AP's and traveled 8 hours only to find out that park closed at 7 and they should be allowed entry because they were AP. I laughed on the inside and did some major eye rolls. I don't know if they were able to get in or not.

Actually, you can go to any guest services to get the card, and they write the expiration date on it. We just did that last month with ours.

I doubt it. Disney is very strict on the parties. We were waiting for the parade during MNSSHP, and the family next to us had no wrist bands. They tried to tell the CMs that they were told it was OK to watch the parade by other CMs, even though they hadn't bought tickets. They were escorted out by security when the got belligerent with the CMs. We all clapped!

You are correct, just did it 2 weeks ago. It was a hassle free experience in DS for us. Took 2 minutes. My DVC card works just as well since they are the same discount right now.

Never said.. because they know it's a gap in their story. But promote it as the token for all your Disney needs? Certainly. The system is pretty much 'whats the point' if it only replaces your ticket. It doesn't improve the the 'charge to my room' system except making it a wearable instead of a card.

Disney's lack of recognizing discounts on the band is pretty much a stick in the eye. I think it's only purpose is to ensure that everyone doesn't get it automatically.. thus saving some amount of money against potential redemptions.

Or Disney could have simply implemented a photo based system to verify the user. Instead... just shift the burden to the customer...
