Update:

"All bands will be sold with an Icon installed in them. You will not be able to buy empty straps. This defeats the idea that Disney was looking for a cheaper option, or that Disney was trying to lighten server loads."

This makes no sense to me....

This minimizes SKU creep... Now a purple ICON band does not have 2 SKU's one for Band w/ICON and one for Band W/O Icon

Some great points here. I think the main goal was to create a magicband that will last, replacing the puck makes your unique magicband last virtually forever which is fantastic.

Interesting though about the wider puck making it easier for guests to figure out the touch point. I can't count the amount of times I see people just smash their wrist against it and expect it to work. It would be interesting to see if once these new bands are out in full force the queue's at the beginning of the fastpass entrances decrease...

Yet the old school cards worked better than the Mouse Arrest Bands just wave in the general vicinity of the Mickey Head and they work none of this Mickey to Mickey baloney....

@PREMiERdrum has it right, The "more magic" feature is not for YOU the guest, It's for Disney because of the expanded monetization potential of the 'Mouse Arrest Puck'.

Offering different options for guests to personalize the bands to their liking is a big plus for the consumer. The price isn't going up so what are you salty about now? That Disney is offering more options for the guests with an upgraded band and also making money at the same time? Whew... for a second there I almost thought that Disney wasn't a corporation but thanks for bringing me back down from the high.

Did the cards actually work better than the bands do now? Or have people just gotten dumber since then?

The cards still work better than the MB's as positioning is not critical with the card if it's within 1-2 inches of the reader it works unlike the critical mickey to mickey in physical contact with the MB, Unsurprisingly I ask for the card, Most of my MB's are attached to pieces of luggage as tags.

Hopefully the pucks will perform at least as well as the cards in which case I might actually like them

That looks... strange to say the least; like a watch without a face. I hope it would be more comfortable to wear than the original MB. I always found the original MB a bit difficult to put on my wrist.

I've never understood the negativity towards Magicbands. Disneys intentions and the amount of money spent on the project weren't the best but I really prefer having the magicband on my wrist then having to look for the card, plus it makes everything simpler, paying at stores, getting into your room, auto-photo linking

To put it in perspective, would you rather that small convenience or 5 - 6 new E-ticket rides?
