I live in one of the highest vaccinated counties in California, and the only reason Marin and SF are beating us is that there are more cows in Marin than people (prefer them over the people) and SF is a postage stamp.

Are you in Santa Clara County? They're 74.4% fully vaccinated.

Or are you in San Mateo County? They're 71.8% fully vaccinated.

But you are vaccinated yourself, right? And you live in a county that is very highly vaccinated, in a region that is very highly vaccinated? If so, what exactly are you afraid of? It's not a trick question, it's just an honest befuddlement from another Californian (me!) that was fully vaccinated months ago and is likely decades older than you.

If you are fully vaccinated, living amongst a highly vaccinated community, what's the fear, exactly?

And I guess the bigger question is, at what point do you agree to return to normal?

I just want to beat Marin, okay 🤣

So, you're not interested in discussing data and the reasoning behind questionable policies and closures... But just weird county tribalism and crying about people you don't like.

Got it... There's that result of 2 years (lets be honest, at least 6ish) of nonstop 24/7 social media and news fear mongering/division for profit I mentioned.

It's called making a joke.

PS, tribalism is a dog whistle 🥲😉

Hah, oh please get over yourself. Dog whistle? In what way? Those letters don't look like this thing-

Ignore them is also a dog whistle... silence the opposing viewpoint! Amirite? I'd expect nothing less from you.

Anyways, Quite telling that TP and others ask questions to that person and not a single response was given other than childish remarks... This is typical of people with their viewpoint, spew out hatred and cry about people 'not follwing da rules', and then when someone asks about details and some information, the response is just belittling and ending of the discussion. No discussion is wanted from all y'all... you just wanna cry about things, hate people for unjustified reasons, and then shut up anyone who says anything otherwise.

WELP, I'm off to a birthday dinner with some steak, no masks, and a couple of tanqueray and tonics. I like em tall with a few extra limes. TP, what's your thoughts on tanqueray? Do you have a preffered gin (let alone drink gin)?

Boy, if you think tribalism is a result of the news media (no need to ask which media in particular you are referring to) then do I have a fascinating thing to show you. It’s called the entirety of human history.

This whole thing is now based primarily on fear. Especially if you are vaccinated, the only thing you have to fear is fear itself. (With apologies to FDR, but it's a good line.)

Most tellingly, our leaders in California have no apparent exit strategy for this thing. They appear to just want to keep it going into 2022 and beyond. No exit strategy in the least. No sense of optimism or defined goal for when it ends. It just keeps... going.

I got the joke, but then you lost me at tribalism.

That's a "dog whistle"? To what exactly? A dog whistle to "tribalism", which is a basic human condition throughout the past 8,000 years on all six populated continents? Or the word "tribalism" is only a dog whistle now in the 21st century to.... what exactly? We are all still in tribes; nations, confederations of nations, languages, religions, sports teams, Android or iOS, Coke or Pepsi, etc., etc.

If it's obvious humans still belong to tribes (and probably always will) what is the dog whistle for?

Yeah, anyway, my vaccination record wasn't online, so I had to manually upload my info. 😭 gotta get that cleared so I can go out in the world again.

It’s nice having that information digitally available. I don’t want to have to carry my card around.

I take it you both live in LA County? There's an entire nation of 330 Million people out there that isn't doing that sort of thing, it's just in LA and New York City.

I just spent the summer in San Diego, and not once all summer long did any business ever ask to see my CDC card. I just moved back up to my home in OC 36 hours ago and because my kitchen is still bare and I like to grocery shop on Tuesday's I've been eating out at restaurants for the past 4 meals. Not once has any restaurant hostess or business employee in Orange County asked to see my CDC card.

Nor has any restaurant or business in San Diego or OC asked me to put on a mask, which I don't wear because I am fully vaccinated and thus protected from hospitaliztion due to Covid. With a free no-questions-asked booster shot from CVS a few weeks ago! 😍

Now, if you live up in LA, I've seen on the news they are doing that up there. Not because of science (a basic cloth mask from Target does very little, you need a surgical grade N95 mask sized correctly for your face to stop a virus floating around), but because, well... because it's Lxs Angxlxs and that's apparently what they focus on. Nevermind there are tens of thousands of unvaccinated homeless people living and deficating on the sidewalks all over LA, it's the fake CDC cards that are really important for public health!

Yeah, tens of thousands of homeless encampments on sidewalks with no toilet facilities are not a concern! What we really need is for the hostess at TGIFriday's to ask for a faked CDC card.

And yet again I ask, what's the exit strategy here? Is there one? I haven't heard of one. You kids are just going to keep masking up through 2022 and 2023 for no apparent reason? Are you ever going to get vaccinated?

I also like em tall, but with dark hair and brooding eyes. What were we talking about? 😇

Oh, gin.

Yes, I do like gin, especially from May through September. But even in the dead of winter if I'm in the bar at Capital Grille or any good steakhouse and know a hearty meal is ahead of me, I'll have a very dry gin martini to kick off the evening. Otherwise in winter, rye and Scotch are my go-to bases during the Cocktail Hour.

The past few years I've been stocking The Botanist gin in my home bar, it's from Scotland. I also like Aviation gin, which is made up in Portland and has a knurled metal top and that young actor, Ryan Something, has been shilling it in magazines lately. Tanqueray is very refreshing, but I think it's best in a gin and tonic with a healthy lime wedge, in summer.

If you want a regular martini with a normal dose of vermouth, any good gin will work fine. But since I'm a "very dry" man when I order a martini, I do like to keep to a small handful of top shelf gins. Not because I'm a gin snob, just because I know the near lack of vermouth will make a cheap gin taste, well, cheap.

And tribalism probably always will be the story of humanity. It hasn't stopped in the 21st century, it's just changed via technology so that a person living in Africa can be in the same tribe as someone living in Europe, or a North American can be in the same tribe as someone 8,000 miles away in Oceania.

Sports, culture, language, religion, etc., all tribes can transcend the continents and span oceans now.

If anything, tribalism is stronger today in the 21st century than it was in the 12th century.

I do live in Los Angeles and wouldn’t have it any other way. I like the precautions we’re taking here. Masks have actually been quite helpful, personally. Wearing one helps keep my allergies at bay and I haven’t been getting sick as much as I usually did prior to 2020. So what if I want to continue wearing a mask past those year or even for the rest of my life, even if I’m vaccinated?

You telling me that San Diego and Orange County don’t require people to wear masks is like telling me that people in Mexico eat Mexican food. Obviously lol, it’s Orange County and San Diego. I wouldn’t expect it any differently. I don’t live in either for a reason (what would my pretty brown self be doing in ORANGE COUNTY, of all places?😂) and have no plans on heading out to either for any kind of business. Not only do I not have a reason to, but I don’t want to shop, eat, etc. anywhere where masking isn’t valued.
