Eh... I had extended family south of Wichita that I visited a few times with my parents when they were still alive. The people of Kansas are absolutely lovely, but the scenery and the weather leaves quite a bit to be desired. Even in the rowdy college towns, it's.... not quite there. 😑
48 other states then.

Oh, gosh yes. But I would personally narrow it down to about 10 states. Most are west of the Mississippi, although I did consider Tennessee for a brief bit after hearing from friends who escaped to Nashville last year, and got their daughter's family and grandkids to follow them. They all rave about it, and the housing costs are half of OC's.

Fun Fact$ on Utah:
  • Electricity prices are 10 cents per Kwh in Utah vs. 19 cents per Kwh in California
  • Gas prices are averaging $1.25 less per gallon in southern Utah this week compared to Southern California
  • State Sales Tax in Utah is 4.75% compared to California's State Sales Tax of 7.25%
  • Natural Gas prices in Utah are $9 per 1K cubic feet, versus $17 per 1K cubic feet in California
  • Utah State Income Tax tops out at 4.95%, California State Income Tax tops out at 12.3%
  • Plus, it's gorgeous and adults can make decisions for themselves about what is best for them = Priceless
That's the beauty of our 50 state republic. Each state can set it's own rules and laws and legislate itself differently. You set up a system of competition and free enterprise where Americans can choose to live in the state that benefits them most for whatever they value the most, and/or what is best for their children. Smart way to run a country; with 50 states competing for taxpaying, law-abiding, productive citizens! 😍🇺🇸

Heck, with the Supreme Court striking down the vaccine mandate for employers last month, there's no longer a vaccine mandate to work at Disneyland, much less to buy a ticket to get in.
Incorrect. The company mandates the vaccine for all employees in California and anywhere else in the U.S. that a mandate is not blocked by law for private companies. They can no longer mandate a vaccine for their employees in Florida, however that law was enacted by the governor after Disney's deadline for all employees to be vaccinated there or be terminated, so it didn't make a difference for those employees.

But it’s Ut… Actually, never mind.

Don't worry, that thought crossed my mind several times! 🤣

I had to visit a few times and experience the great restaurants, stylish communities, and contemporary socializing to erase the image in my mind of an endless Donny & Marie Variety Show with a lobby bar that only serves 7-Up.

But Utah has changed quite a bit since these kids were making Utah famous. I had no idea!

Like I said, my days at the Whiskey A-Go-Go are long since over. I just need some fun neighbors to talk to, a jazzy patio playlist for cocktail parties, a few great restaurants within Ubering, a Target, and a good butcher. Anything else Amazon can send me.

I sincerely hope you have a safe move.

Thank you! 😍

Let me IM a CM (got that?) back who had told me that he was no longer required to test at work and Disney was allowing CM's on religious leaves to return. This was just before this past weekend, and the article you have is from February 1st.

It sounds like Disney backed off their employee mandate, or is at least giving the appearance to CM's of backing off. Although, reading that article above, this wasn't going to kick in until April 11th anyway. It seems to be an evolving issue, but let me see what I can find out.

The tell is that Disneyland has not fired anyone for not being vaccinated. Cause that would be all over the papers if they had started doing that.

Walt Disney World did the same and has rehired the few who were let go for not sharing their vaccination status.

I'm very happy for you. Haven't visited Utah myself but it sounds very nice! I'm sure the resort community will be great!

That's so funny to hear what a joke our state has become to the rest of the nation. It's very sad and mostly a result of "criminal reform". I can only hope it one day corrects its self.
Anything’s possible, CA was a fairly consistant Red state prior to 1990 and TX was a fairly consistant Blue state prior to 1980.

We think of many states as safe red or safe blue but many have swapped in the past and they can swap again.

Quoting myself, because there is some fun to be had in Kansas. I just had this memory resurface because of this thread...

Just outside Wichita, driving my uncle's gorgeous 1967 Lincoln Continental like a bat out of heck through endless wheat fields on a deserted highway at 100mph to get my aunt to the A&W Drive-In over in the next county before they closed. She was a kind Midwestern woman who had lived through a lot, but when she wanted a root beer float she let you know it. She kept telling me to go faster, and she knew that Lincoln's 460 was barely breathing hard. 🤣

Hats off to the good people of Kansas! Go Jayhawks!

It's stated at the top of their jobs page for DL (https://parksjobs.disneycareers.com/disneyland-resort):
As part of our commitment to health and safety, COVID-19 vaccines are required for current U.S. salaried and non-union hourly employees, as well as all newly hired employees.

People were fired throughout the company for not being vaccinated. I don't recall which thread it was posted in, but I think there was a reddit which quoted the HR email to employees that they were being terminated for not complying with the mandate. I can't swear that was DL-specific though - it's been a while since I saw wherever that post was.

I can also think of some ESPN folks and some ABC and Disney+ actors who were terminated for it as well since those made headlines. There was also the question of whether certain films would be reworked due to actors reportedly refusing the mandate and therefore likely parting ways with the company for any future projects.

Let's do an update on Covid in SoCal, before it glows away forever.

As per usual for the past two years, Los Angeles County still continues to have markedly higher Covid rates than Orange County does. But even LA County has made dramatic progress and is much healthier than they were just a month or two ago! LA County has also increased their vaccination rates to finally match Orange County. Both counties remain higher than the California vaccination average of 68.6%, but below the big winner, sunny n' perky San Diego County at 74.5% Fully Vaccinated. (I imagine the huge population of Active Duty Sailors and Marines in SD County helps that out.)

Overall, good news for everyone on this sunny Friday!
🥳

The very latest misinformation official data and statistics from the California Department of Public Health...

Covid Case Rates Last 14 Days Per 100,000 Residents

San Diego County = 78 Cases Per 100,000 - 74.5% Fully Vaccinated
Orange County = 154 Cases Per 100,000 - 70.8% Fully Vaccinated
LA County = 186 Cases Per 100,000 - 70.8% Fully Vaccinated

Stories are out all over the news about the cheering and applause that erupted on flights, many in mid-air, yesterday when the TSA said it would comply with the judge's ruling on ending the mask mandates on public transportation.

This one Twitvid really got me emotional; a lovely young stewardess who broke out into tears of joy once she was allowed to take off her mask after two years! Brava, dear lady! 😍

That said... this thread is about over and done, just like Covid

Case rates and hospitilazations are at very low levels all over SoCal. As per usual, Orange County has lower case rates by over half compared to LA County, but even LA County's rates have remained comparatively low lately. Bravo LA, you can do it!

Covid Case Rates as of April 18th, 2022...

Orange County = 71 Cases Per 100,000 Residents
LA County = 167 Cases Per 100,009 Residents

ORANGE COUNTY CONFIRMED CASES PAST 90 WEEKS

As for vaccination rates, the story there has been consistent statewide.

LA County is a really interesting case because it's massive with 10+ Million people, and they obsess over counting race and class in who is vaccinated and who is not. The story there remains the same, and as we move on from Covid it is likely a good benchmark for the nation as a whole with such a giant pool of 10 Million very diverse people.

Vaccination Rates as of April 18th, 2022

State of California = 69.6% Fully Vaccinated
San Diego County = 78.8% Fully Vaccinated
Los Angeles County = 71.5% Fully Vaccinated
Orange County = 71.4% Fully Vaccinated

Here's that breakdown from the Los Angeles County Public Health Department (that excludes the cities of Long Beach and Pasadena)...

Los Angeles County Racial/Gender/Class Vaccination Rates

Asians/Pacific Islanders = 82.3% Fully Vaccinated
American Indians = 75.1% Fully Vaccinated
Whites = 73.6% Fully Vaccinated
Latinos = 59.3% Fully Vaccinated
Blacks = 55.9% Fully Vaccinated

Females = 77.3% Fully Vaccinated
Males = 72.8% Fully Vaccinated

Age 65 & Up = 98% Fully Vaccinated
Age 18 to 29 = 82.5% Fully Vaccinated
Age 5 to 11 = 37% Fully Vaccinated

You thought the last two years was fun? I thought it was disastrous.

And I never want to repeat it.
You would think that you people had been held captive hanging upside down in a dungeon with king sized feather pillows duct taped over your faces for the past two years instead of having experienced reasonable safety precautions during a worldwide pandemic that has killed 988K of Americans and counting. The cries of freedom from tyranny are as ludicrous as they are obnoxious.

Oh wait, this is in that Disneyland thread that the mods do not mod. Didn’t realize that when I got a notification. That explains all the untethered right wing politics.

No kidding. It was a stewardess crying at being able to finally take off her mask. If that's political, report it and we can move on. I found it very touching, to be honest.
How about we just move on and not bring up this topic again. Whether you find it touching (which I'm sure it is) or not really doesn't have anything to do with Disneyland.
