Problem day for MK.

My daughter and I took a survey on the way out of DHS last week....the way the questions were structured, it was almost impossible to give a real critique of anything. Every path seemed to lead to positive feedback, no matter how hard we tried to imply the oppposite. It was very frustrating, and we let the survey taker know that. I'd like to take a survey about the survey!

I took the same DHS survey. If I had anything negative to say on it, I could have. The questions were NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL. Sometimes, I get the impression people invent things here just to make more reasons to complain.

Since all you can do is benefit because of other fans' criticisms, no matter how big or small the impact, it makes no sense to me for someone to be so hostile toward them.

Is that what endless whining in a forum about a place that is supposed to be fun is? And never posting anything positive even when WDW does something right, because you're extremely bitter and live to hate it on principal?

Here's this forum in a nut shell:

1. Something in a ride doesn't work: WAH WAH WAH!!!!

2. Ride is taken down to fix something that doesn't work: WAH WAH WAH!!!!

Yeah, that's COMPLETELY reasonable all right.

Were you there when he took the survey?

And if you don't like this forum, there are other options available to to. But doing nothing but complaining about others' comments on a discussion board isn't going to get you anywhere.....

It seems made up. Mine was sent to my e-mail. They didn't stand there while I scribbled things on a piece of paper.

It's a possibility. Just come here for news, but all I see is : DOOM AND GLOOM, DOOM AND GLOOM, DOOM AND GLOOM!

So the answer is no, and you have no proof that it was indeed, made up....

Then you can always read the news and save the commentary. Regardless of someone's outlook, we're not going to like everything said around here. Insulting others opines though isn't going to get you anything but banned.....

I took a survey at the same park, and they did it digitally. Why would they do a mix of both for no apparent reason?

I'm not insulting anyone, this is the honest opinion of an outsider about how utterly insane and deluded things are here. I'm sorry, now we're complaining about rides going down for maintenance at a park that is open all year long? I'm just not kool aid drinking idiot that holds Disney to standards that are physically impossible to achieve.

Physically impossible?
I don't see anyone asking for the impossible.

I do see people asking for the best possible.

Rides go down. Of course they do, it's unavoidable.
The issue is with increased downtime related to mechanical and show- related failures that can be directly correlated to a severe reduction in Disney's maintenance force and budget.

As Martin alluded to, TDL is a thirty year old park that looks practically new compared to the MK. Why? Because of their dedication to extremely high maintenance and show standards.

That's all anyone can reasonably ask for at WDW...the same level of care and standards seen in Tokyo.

Why not?

And yes, you've done more than your share of insulting and condescension. But, it's your call whether or not you wish to stick around....

Your stance in general could not be any more hypocritical. I wonder what your stance is toward...let's say...the US government. Within your ridgid criteria of exceptability, either they are perfect and do all the right things in all the right ways, or you're just a whiner. WWWWWWWWAAAAAAA

Why don't you go do something constructive. I hear WDI needs someone to model for their new AA in Maelstrom ;) .....

Pirates was down first thing Sunday morning. Was back up and running about 25 minutes later after I rode Splash Mountain. I thought Splash was in pretty good shape with even the runaway Rabbit working. One of the possums was not working.

Took the DHS survey on Saturday night. It is your standard "How would you rate _______" survey. You are given 5 choices, so you can pick the option that is most negative. There is also a write in section where you can put in negative/positive comments. Not the best survey, but also not the worst survey I have ever taken.

Really the only other ride that broke while I was there was Expedition Everest. We were in line and they gave us a fast pass that does not expire until May 15th! We didn't get to go back so I still have the pass!

The legend behind the Disney theme parks is that Walt Disney came up with the idea for Disneyland when he took his children to a rather dingy amusement park and thought he could do better. After Disneyland was built, the legend is that Walt expected the park to be immaculate, insisting that every blown light bulb be replaced, every worn surface be repainted, every broken animatronic be repaired immediately. This legend is still being pushed today by corporate Disney. Corporate Disney wants the general public to believe that the Disney theme parks are still being held to the same high standards set by Walt. People who identify problems with the theme parks are simply asking corporate Disney to maintain the standards originally set by Walt and which corporate Disney continues to take advantage of.

If Walt were alive today would he find the current state of the parks acceptable?

I think you quite well stated the disconnect today between the marketing of "Disney Parks" and the things that go with it (Walt, and the ideals of the parks) and the actual park product today in WDW.

Disney, the corporation, constantly pushes how magical, special, and unique the parks are, and promoting every old Walt quote they can find (even on construction walls!). But the reality is, in corporate America in 2012, management (Iger, Staggs, Rasulo, TDO...) believes that holding their product to a higher standard is just too costly nowadays and they'd prefer to push and abstract, idealized illusion of their product than actually follow through and deliver it, hoping guest somehow won't notice the difference.

Lets comapre the park maintainance to car maintainance. It seems to me that TDL is comparable to the type of person that has typical maintainance on their car (oil change, tire rotation etc) done at the approprate intervals, takes the vehicle to the mechanic upon the observance of any foreign sound or indicator light and has all repairs done as needed. WDW is like the guy that has one headlight out, duct tape and plastic over the back driver side window, a smashed in door, a mismatch color bumper, gets an oil change once the engine gives way, and has the best chrome spinners money can buy ( ;) @ next gen)

And for those who may critisize this as an over exaggeration, my arguement is that it is all relative. If Disney has set a high standard, then the standards should be high. An otherwise minor offense, when left unattended to for extended periods, is now a major concern. A scratch on a 94' Mazda is different than a scratch on an otherwise pristine Lamborgini. Or in the case of hotels, a 5 star resort sets differnt standards than a Howard Johnson, so logically your expectations vary.

And the cost of WDW tickets, resorts, merch, and food has gone up considerably in recent years while quality has gone down across the board. So you're getting less for your money.

It's like the product is the '94 Mazda, but they try to get those Lamborghini prices (and then heavily discount if necessary).

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Rumors are exploding that a man, who wishes to remain nameless, went into Casey's Corner this afternoon to excape the Florida heat and purchased a large fountain beverage, we cannot verify the flavor, and much to his dismay, only found 4 pieces of ice cooling his beverage.

The overheated man explains:

"Its like, you know, I saw people walking around crunching on ice chips and, you know, I wanted to do the same, but I needed, you know, all the ice to stay in the cup to keep my drink cold. I was really sweating, and I'm not talking about the heat, you know. Its declining by degrees you know, the are now skimping on the price of water, someone is getting that money."

Calls to Meg Crofton have gone unreturned.

Did you automatically pick the most negative answer for the surveys and for all questions? Remember that in statistics, outliers will likely be deemed not significant and thrown out the window.

Care to explain why you must shift the focus of this discussion off the real issue, meaning maintenance problems, and onto the posters themselves? I reiterate my previous question:

Jimmy Thick is like the kid who farts in class on purpose. He doesn't have anything funny or intelligent to add but he still wants to get noticed. And probaly because no argument against maintainence complaints stands up to the available facts.

So, you have this ^, then you have this, from Jimmy's blog

Didn't I leave simple school-yard politics behind 20 years ago?

A recent observation from my wonderous mind has noticed what I feel are acts of stupidity. Apparently people who post here cannot have a difference of opinion from the moral, and I use that term VERY loosely, moral majority.

Seriously, pardon me while I laugh out loud.

See, the whole point of a discussion forum is, now bear with those with dubious sensibilities, is to invite debate and discuss, really, DISCUSS things. Just because I or people who do not follow the lamb being led to slaughter stigma, don't agree with you, does not mean were, ahem, trolls.

It means we are human beings who see things differently, and have the actual courage to state those opinions. True leaders, trailblazers. The world would not function without us, chances are you work for us because you don't have guts to stand up for yourself, you just agree with everyone else.

Yes, I know it must hurt, as you sit behind your computer eagerly awaiting the chance to jump on someone who don't agree with you. Unfortunately, I feel pity, and move on to something more interesting, which as the driving force of the discussion forums when I do post here, is a shame for all the other readers.

I would invite this topic for debate, but who wants the hassle?
