Princesses getting new look

I really hate Pocahontas's earrings. Gag. I think what was done to her and Mulan was an injustice. Other than that everyone else looks fine, except for maybe Aurora's weird crimped hair.

I just don't understand what this is?! Cinderella is not Cinderella! That's not her face at all. That doesn't look like her! That really ticks me off - sorry! Her hair should be strawberry blonde. Aurora's hair should be ash blonde, not yellow! Belle's hair is beautiful, but never would I imagine her with that fancy of a hairstyle.

Aurora. I am interested to see the real live interpretation because I find the redesign to the point of offensive. Sleeping Beauty (as I called her as a kid until the princess live took over) was my favorite of all of them. I find her the most beautiful and just had the best movie. However, I think Disney's mistake was drawing her TOO perfect because they could never recreate her right. Something is always off about her.
It was her nose and now she's been given a 90210 nose job. Of all the changes hers is the one that bugs me the most and it's because to me, she had a flaw before, an imperfection if you will, but now she's been "barbied."

So, I have been trying to keep quiet and trying to be objective about the changes of the princesses. I can see both sides of the argument but I guess I fall into the old school category. I have been watching these blogs on Youtube of a boy giving his opinions and I just want to shake him because I disagree with almost everything he says. I feel so helpless that classic characters I grew up with are being completely ripped to shreds. Yes, that's an exaggeration but to me...it is a serious problem.
So in much less words you like the dresses but not the hair? Lol

I see what you are trying to say but I would have to personally disagree with some of the things you have said.

I'm a traditionalist myself however if Disney doesn't conform to the 21st century then people will lose interest as it will be seen as old and stale. The new Cinderella products are selling very well where I work and this is exactly what Disney wants.

Aurora's dress is supposed to be pink :S

Little girls want to see shiny princesses in big dresses. That is what sells. Disney's main demographic is young girls. There is no denying that.

One point I will have to make you aware of (even though you have only just noticed) Disney Princess is a brand solely formed to sell mass merchandise in order to make money. Everything Disney does is to make money, they don't really care about you, again they just want your money.

I could go on but writing on an iPad is killing my wrists lol

Not exactly. I think Cinderella's original hair was beautiful. The new hair is awful. It looks fake. Not what they were going for, I'm sure. The dress is an improvement to the old one but I hate the sleeves (her underarms, really?). Belle's dress and hair...I'm sorry, I just don't like it. My personal opinion though. I showed my 10 year old cousin who has gone to Disney every year since she was born and she gasped "That's not Belle!" She didn't believe me when I told her that was the permanent look.

I really can't say anything about the others until I see a park interpretation.

I disagree with the 21st century argument. First, Snow White is a 76 year old character and is still popular today as she was back then and she has kept the same look. The same goes for the rest of the princesses. Changing their entire look is not progress to me. No one has gotten bored of them yet. I dressed as Sleeping beauty when I was 5. I am 31 now and have never been sick of her. If Disney wants to stay relevant, then keep creating new inspiring characters instead of trying to change classics. As for the New Cinderella stuff selling well...I am sure they sold just as well before the update. It's Cinderella.

Aurora's dress may have been intended to be pink but you know what? Cinderella's dress was intended to be white or a shimmering silver. Where did the blue come from? Flora may have wanted the dress pink but that didn't happen. It was blue when Aurora saw it for the first time, it was blue during her walk to the castle, blue during the curse, blue when she woke up, blue when she met her parents and blue when she danced with Philip through the finale. just because it alternated as a joke at the end, doesn't mean the dress was meant to be pink. I am really sure the artists intended for her dress to always have been pink because "oh, well, the book closed on her when it was pink so it was supposed to be pink!" please... I can't prove it because I didn't start going to Disney as an adult until after 2005, but it seemed from videos/photos that the park dresses blue until the Princess line developed and she was labeled the 'pink princess.' Cinderella and Ariel wore pink more than sleeping beauty did in her movie, just saying. It wouldn't even be so bad if they alternated the color in the parks and merchandise. She can wear both. It's the fact that they are trying to change history that bothers me. I'll illustrate my argument this way: Aurora's dress being changed from blue to pink for no other reason than because Disney thinks kids are stupid is just as bad, if not worse for me, as Greedo shooting first.

Where am I arguing that girls like princesses in shinny dresses? cause I'm not. Sparkle is awesome and the dresses should look fit for a princess to wear. Wires and tubing is not royal. However, if Disney takes so much pride in the integrity of the brand, they should at least try and keep the characters somewhat close to the movies as possible. I had no issues with the gold theme they did. But Disney never made that the park official look or rebranding. It was just a promotion. Had these new looks just been a promotion like the others, there would be no arguments from me. The fact they are now making this the 'official' look of the princesses it what is making people mad.

You don't need to tell me about Disney making money. I am not an idiot. But I do have a fairly good fantasy level where I buy into it. However, this new initiative brought me into reality. Anyway. I will be in Disney in 37 days. That means all the money I worked for all year gets spent on the Polynesian, park tickets, meals, merchandise. Any idea how much that costs? I am sure you do. So I have as much right to complain about what I expect from Disney, just like everyone else. And I don't complain about much. I am no cool aid drinker but I don't look for perfection either. I do, however, prefer my characters to look like the characters. Not gussied up Barbie/Brats wanna-bes. If you don't have an issue, that's fine. Free country.

As you know Aurora's look is next. My personal opinion, I love the dress, but the wig again is not good. She has the Cinderella slick bangs, and then this heart shape poof has been created on the part. Both don't look very much like her original movie. Her dress is an improvement though, she now has a more defined waist, and it's more pleasing to the eye.

The dress doesn't look bad. I think one flaw of the current park dress is that the (I don't know what it is called...the pointed collar?) is way too high and thick. It just isn't flattering. The new redesign looks promising in that they may tone the collar down a bit. I am glad they chose to stick with the original dress as opposed to the design they started with: (the sash and the missing pointed collar version). I didn't like that at all. Anyway, I am curious to see the new park design.

Is Aurora still debuting on April 1st? My source is iffy seeing as the majority of tumblr users thought Tangled was going to be a M&G.. *flush*

Was her look slated for April 1st? It would make sense that Aurora would be next. Rapunzel is one of the newest princesses and has a well designed dress. Aurora is in desperate need of a new dress. She's the only one that still NEEDS a new dress. So I can't wait to see it.

I love Ariel's dress. It's the dress she should have worn in the movie. It fits her perfectly.

I hope they don't ruin it.

But yeah, Aurora needs a new dress NOW

Monkee Girl, I'm just curious have you ever actually watched Beauty and the Beast? Her old dress actually looked less like it should. It was too straight and hung weird, making her look like a cone. It had cheap rolls of fabric with rhinestones, and was a color more similar to mac n' cheese than gold. I'm not talking about the advertising art, but like when they're actually dancing in the ballroom. Her dress needed much more dimension, which it has now. Yes her hair doesn't match the movie as well, but the old wigs were in bad shape. I agree with Cinderella's hair being a bad move, but I'm glad her dress is a least less blue and a liiiiittle more silver... a little lighter.

I like that the dresses at least are more "realistic" and fancy than they were before. I'm just happy that the new costumes look better than the new art *shudders*

Yes. I have seen the movie many times. Especially since I was one of the first generation Beauty and the Beast kids. Have you read any of my posts or are you just so quick to want to call my out on something?

I saw Belle's dress in person a few days ago. I hate the whole look. She didn't look like Belle to me. My opinion of course. I am all for updating dresses and know the flaws the original had. Of course, had you read my post where I said: " it's sparkly and an up grade from the tubes and wires of the old dress but at the same time I think it was just a little over done..." you would have known that. However, I will disagree with you... As much as you hated that dress, it was still closer to the movie's version than the one that is out now.

My basic point is the dress is over complicated, the wrong color, and just....ugly. Belle has the wrong hair. She is just not Belle. You want to like everything that comes out without question and want to call out people who have a different opinion than you; fine. have fun. But me; these looks are horrible and a huge misstep.

I will not be replying to any other posts in this thread since it is obvious that my initial post was correct. God forbid someone have a different opinion from someone else here.
