I am glad to see a traditionally-animated Disney musical again. And set in New Orleans during the Jazz Age, that has real possibilities.

The Associated Press says, "Thankfully, the spirit of animation maestro Walt Disney lives on."

I probably won't get to see it for a week or so. Until then, I would love to see your reviews posted here, as everyone gets to see it. Post away!

I watched it earlier today and it was absolutely fantastic. The songs are all amazing (I am listening to the soundtrack right now), the movie has great characters, wonderful mix of traditional animation with computer technology and just about everything we love on a Disney movie.

I don’t think I ever used the sentence “Walt would be proud” for any Disney Animations since Mulan, but I think he is quite happy right now because The Princess and the Frog shows the magic of his legacy still lives.

This is all boding well. :D

Glad you liked it.

I took my 3 year old daughter today, I absolutely LOVED it!! The music and lyrics were fantastic, the animation great and the storyline was wonderful. My 3 year old was literally dancing to the music in the theater. My son who is about to turn 6 didn't want to see a "princess movie" but I actually think he would enjoy it, it's not a typical princess waiting for her prince to find her movie and I'm positive he would find Raymond the lightening bug and Louis the alligator funny. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

Anyone able to comment on what crowds were like in the showings this weekend?

I was surprised at how few showings my theater was giving of PATF, and as such, I'm holding off til next weekend.

I loved Tiana, and loved the New Orleans and Bayou scenery.:animwink:
But the story and other characters just fell flat for me.
I didn't get that magical feeling that so many of the other Disney and Pixar classics deliver.
I was really disapointed.

Seeing all the great reviews, maybe I was just having an off day. I'll have to go back and give it a second chance.

I LOVED it. So great to see lush backgrounds and all the human touches and warmth Animation gives again on the big screen. Thankfully they were able to take the relatively old style story more from the Mermaid/Aladdin days but had the better, darker, more human and subversive comedy that made the Hercules/Mulan days so good. End combination, great. You can tell that unlike Brother Bear and Home on The Range, they had a Studio behind them to SUPPORT the film, rather than PUSH it right into the dumpster. Music was great but didn't "musical" on you when you weren't ready for it, and best of all the CHARACTERS and story came first.

All in all, hopefully Americans will someday start treating Animation seriously and we won't have to deal with the dreadful imitation mind set that brought about Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, and Bolt. The last two had some better ideals trying to save them, but they were too far down the imitation not creation path.

Bottom Line: Originality is everything, and they had a home run in making the film it's own. Unique, wonderful, and artistic.

I just sincerely hope that someday this country begins to appreciate Animation better than it is.

This is a step in the right direction, let's hope the audience follows.

(Also, the Shadowman is awesome, and Surrealist Animation I love very very much and wasn't expecting. Thank you!)

I just saw it myself and loved it. It was a great film that really harks back to Disney's classic films with great animation, enjoyable, seamlessly integrated songs, and characters that you actually care for. I'm really looking forward to the future of Disney animation just based on the effort they put into getting this film right. On a side note, Toy Story 3 looks to be pretty good as well.

We saw it opening night on Friday, and it was wonderful! Animation was great, music was superb, and it didn't ever have any boring parts. Another job well done for WD Animation. Keep it up! :sohappy:

i know, what was with the dissappointing opening... The Disney Execs are not going to be happy... 2D animation may come to an end sooner then we would like. Hopefully it has amazing staying power.
