Prices up…profits down…

We made a last minute decision to spend Christmas at Disney. In the not too distant past, I most likely would not have gotten a room for Christmas week. Much to my surprise there’s plenty of availability in quite a few resorts. Yes they are pricey, but there are some good AP holder and Stay for the Holidays discounts available. After reading all of the insightful posts in this thread, it seems to reinforce the thinking that Disney has become way too expensive for a large segment of the people. And the room cost is just the beginning of the actual cost of a Disney vacation.
There were room discounts during the holiday week?? It was not that long ago when holiday week was rack rate period.

I remember Christmas week 2015, was probably the only time I paid rack rate. And I thought it was worth it at the time, because I paid rack for a Contemporary garden wing room so I could walk to and from MK and avoid the transportation, lol. But, luckily for me, because it was one night before a stay at BLT, I got upgraded to a 10th floor MK view in the main building. So it was still a bargain relatively speaking.

The money to pay Bob Iger to do absolutely nothing from 1996-2005 was
Sure, but he was from another area of entertainment that I wasn't particularly consumed with. I doubt at that point he had a whole hell of a lot of power. You know the funny thing is I remember so clearly how everyone was so jacked that Bobby was looking like the future leader and they were finally going to get rid of Eisner. As bad as Eisner was at that point, other than expanding the range of the Disney Company, the parks were better than Bob has made them, in my opinion. But it does seem that most of the folks on these Disney forums seem to think that Disney's CEO has nothing else to do other than spend most of his time concentrating only on the parks. The Disney Company was pretty big by then. It kind of reminds me of the old saying, "When you're up to your neck in Alligators it's hard to remember your original objective was to drain the swamp!"

Looking at what has happened to Disney in every instance except when Walt of the big cheese, so to speak, the general useful life span (i.e. period of approval) of the CEO has been a steady decline from way up high to way down low and then out. It will be interesting to see if the present board and shareholders, mostly, continue to show enough support for him to hang on to that power.

We were also surprised with how many resorts were available for Christmas week. Not just the Deluxe ones, but Moderates and Values as well. We did a split stay at POFQ and the Contemporary for 10 days, checking out the 26th. We made our reservations about 6 weeks out. In the not too distant past you probably had to make those reservations 6 months out.

Sure but if you keep adding more DVC eventually that's gonna swing to the point where there's too many and not enough people to book them.

On the flip side of this, I was shocked at how many first time tourists I saw Friday through Sunday of last week. I'd never seen so many people walking out with lightsabers in my life. DHS was pretty rough line wise Saturday, but not wholly unmanageable. Seeing people line up at 6:30pm for the 8:00pm Fantasmic was absolutely insane though.
