2010 is my benchmark year - 8 day park tickets and 7 nights at Contemporary bay view with "free" deluxe dining (one TS, two CS, two snacks and unlimited resort beverage). Yes, it was somewhat crowded and standby wait times could be 120 minutes or more but FastPass was free and MK was often open until 2am with EH. We rode our favorites multiple times each day and experienced many more attractions per hour than we can now.

ME picked us up at the airport and our luggage was in our room. We had "free" dining but Mickey Pretzels were $3, Cape May had crab legs and Chef Mickey's had stone crab claws. For one TS credit. A couple of nights we would use 2 TS credits and have dinner at Yachtsman's or Narcossee's

Tequila Sunrises were $6 at any resort pool. The chocolate martinis at Outer Rim came with an actual chocolate straw.

With airfare, the total for three of us came to $4600.

To be fair…that was the bottom of the housing crash.

That was when the “old way” was replaced with “bobs way”…

And here we are

Yes it was and I'm aware of the economic circumstances at the time. Yet it still serves as a benchmark for me as "cost" wasn't a constant irritant. The next few years faired well in comparison - what we got in return for what we paid seemed consistent - it wasn't until somewhere around 2015-2016 that began to change (FP+ and the soft start of diminishing perks) and had us looking at Moderates instead and CSR became our new go to.

I still remember my first trip to WDW in 2018, with 2 adults and 1 kid… it was about $1000 for 4 days.

Just got back from a trip with 3 “adults” and 1 kid (oldest is now 10+). It was about $2800 for 8 days. So not apples to apples, but even looking at just a. 4 day base ticket now, it’s $2400 for 4 people. Plus LL. I was pretty sticker shocked to say the least. Still, people are going - including this sucker apparently!

I am looking at footing the bill for 4 adults this time. Plus my 26 y/o daughter who is on her own likes to come with us, but she pays her own way. She is young, and not earning huge bucks (and has a mortgage, and bills, etc) I'm going to have to tell her that her park ticket is north of $600

Behind the scenes…that’s not correct

Mandates went out around to 2018 to stop discounting/offering good deals to spur travel going forward.

There are a few myths about downturns in the swamp

The “9/11” slowdown was in full swing long before September…

And the “Covid reset” had nothing to do with wages going up and inflation…it was a directive that started way before masks and ubereats

Stopping discount to spur travel is one things. Today's pricing is not neutral. It is actively discouraging me from going again. So much so that we are looking at either Hilton Head, Hawaii, or renting out our DVC points.

To repeat from many other posts.... 2008, three children, one teen, seven adults. Round trip airfare/or ground transportation from Vermont, 6 bedroom luxury villa just offsite (less than a mile) my car plus two rentals, 11 seven day tickets for the parks and dining (offsite all but lunch and one dinner for all onsite at hoop dee doo revue) plus just a few odds and ends was just a little over $7000.00. Those were the days!

That’s Bob…blue ocean

Some will still blame chapek. He had nothing to do with anything other than saying the wrong things in front of a microphone

It is hard to believe that people cannot see that Bob #2 was put in place to take the blame away from Bob #1. However, there are many people who still believe that large corporations are angelic and would never play any games. Bob #1 got exactly the stooge he wanted in Bob #2. You haven't seen Bob #1 change all the garbage that Bob #2 allegedly did and now poor old Bob #1 has a mess to clean up and his way of doing that is by doing nothing about the problems and only adding to them. His way of dealing with them is to shrug his shoulders and say he doesn't have the power to change them even if he wanted too. Sure, Bob #1 it must be frustrating to be in charge and have no power to change anything.

Bob #2 was programed to say exactly what they wanted him to say in front of the microphone. BTW, I never saw what the separation package was that #2 got. Was it ever released? Let's face it he had the personality of a rock. The popularity factor fluctuated between "don't like" to "hate his guts" from the get go. Not to mention the fact that I don't think he was even aware of the setup. Anybody know what he is doing now?

Chapek got off cheap. He was fired with a $23M payout. When Ovitz left in the 1990s his severance package was north of $100M. Before he was fired Chapek upgraded and moved from a $5M home to a $15M home.
