For the past 2 days, my room mate has been sick. He decided to go to the health center today after waking up with a temperature of over 103! My question is... Is there any way I can prevent myself from catching what he's got?? His parents picked him up this afternoon and I've been spraying lysol around the room like a mad man. Thanks for the suggestions! :lookaroun

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
Spray everything.... even your roomate... with Lysol...lol

Clean the phone handset (also, light switches, computer mouse...etc) really good with the lysol to.

Take loads of Vitamen C :)

*sigh* Thanks for the help guys!! My luck, I'll start feeling it Wednesday night... the night before my accounting midterm and a few days before I'm supposed to go to Six Flags for Halloween... :(

I have this weird feeling I'm going to turn into Jack Nicholson from As Good As it Gets...

3 Christmas' ago, my whole family got this horrible flu. Everyone except my mom, one aunt and one uncle got it. The uncle that didn't get it carried a can of Lysol spray around and sprayed anything and everything (and everyone) and wore a t-shirt around his head or something goofy like that. Sounds stupid, but he didn't spend 3 days praying to the porceline (sp? that looks wrong) gods, either. Good luck! :hurl: :hurl: :hurl:

1. keep your hands clean. Carry around a bottle of hand cleaner if you have to.
2. Get a flu shot...not the most fun, but it works.(and take some Tylenol for a day or two afterward, they can make you ache.
3. Drinks lots of fluids (non alcoholic  )
4. Try to get enough rest to keep your immune system working properly.
5. Wash your hands...can't say that one enough.

They did a study and infections were down just by keeping your hands clean.

Good luck.

Hand sanitizer is a life saver. I keep one at my desk at work and use it whenever I hear someone is sick in the office.

Try not to bring your hands to your face if you can help it.

If all else fails: Do the John Travolta, Boy in the Bubble.

Get you a flu shot. It helps. I've got to get me one sometime soon.

How long is flu season btw?

Flu shots really help, especially if you have asthma, diabetes or get sick frequently. The doctors around here even want toddlers to get them (due to daycare).

Flu season is from October till April (approx).

Yep they do. I didn't start getting them till 16 or 17. I used to get sick several times during the winter. Since I started getting them, I get sick maybe once. I hardly go to the doctor for an illness anymore.

I'd definitely get on Jonnie, especially when you get to work at WDW. Having to take a day(s) for the flu will kill your paycheck.

The flu has started early this year (in our neck of the woods). I plan to get the whole gang here a flu shot as soon as I spot them available. When we don't work; we don't get paid.
The past two Januarys, around Super Bowl Weekend; there has been a breakout, and we got it both times:(

I've only had flu once, but it was miserable. I did get the shot last year, but with my fear of needles... I'll take my chances this year. Besides, with the way this school year is going, I could use a few days off work. ;)

Hopefully you won't get the ful Jonnie. Go with the advice the others have given you. Wash hands, spray Lysol, get flu shot. You should be fine.

FAIR WARNING FROM YOUR WDWMAGIC DOCTOR KID:

The flu shot will NOT prevent all flus, there are many types of flu, therefore, you can still get the flu, however many times it is lessened.

:D hehehehe

(now, i know you are sitting there thinking, what does she know? I know because I had a flu shot, and got the flu 3 times last year.)

Definitions:

Flu: comes on suddenly. Temperature of 102+. Achiness and the feeling of being run over by a truck. May be accompanied by runny nose, sore throat, cough, etc., but not typically.

Gastric upset: i.e., diarrhea, vomiting, etc. is NOT the flu (although we commonly call it "flu" or "stomach flu"). This is not inFLUenza, for which one can be immunized.

Cold: Comes on gradually. Fever not usually present. Runny nose, cough, congestion, sore throat. Goes away in a week if you treat it, and in 7 days if you don't.
