I've been invited to go to the 5/4 thru 5/6 celebration. On 5/5, We're having breakfast in the MK, followed by a preview of Cinderrelabration (sp?), and then a meeting with Disney Mgt. and Imagineers about the future of WDW Resort. Also, there's a concert at MGM on 5/4, and they're not saying who the performer is. Disney is saying it's a major musical act.

I'm looking forward to this trip. I'm going as the guest of my sister. She was invited because she books a lot of meetings at WDW for her company. The best part is the whole trip is gratis, on the arm, free. I'm very lucky.

That is one nice sister! :sohappy:

Press days

My family visited WDW in Oct 2003 when M:S opened. They closed Epcot early on the "official" opening/dedication day to everyone but the press.

I would say overall that there the parks were a bit more crowded than other times I have visited because of this event. The press gets to do everything gratis so they tend to bring their family along as well (which means more visitors overall). They even got unlimited Fast Passes with their press badges/tix! There were tents set up at the MK where various radio stations were broadcasting, so sometimes the traditional "look" of a park changed, but otherwise it wasn't too obtrusive. But there are events that were press-only events (like talking to Imagineers). I imagine that this time things will be a bit different due to the larger nature of the celebration - I'd expect a bit more press-only events.

Overall, I had mixed feelings about the press being there. On the one hand, I was kinda envious that they got to visit for free. Many aren't really that big of Disney fans - they just attend because its free and its a vacation for their family. On the other hand, I met some really nice folks who were radio "celebraties" and enjoyed talking with them while in line waiting for attractions (we even rode ToT together - and my kids sat next to them instead of me!). My wife got to meet Joe Piscipo at the Bears Den at WL because he and his family were staying there. So who knows, you might get to meet some celebs! (if you're into that kind of thing).

Hopefully it won't have too much impact to the average guest, but I'd expect that some things will be off-limits.

Hope this helps.

I was wondering what you needed to get into some of these special press events, I have just obtained some sort of initation explainng the 50 anniversary celebration. Its a large foldout with 3d images and such. I got it from my neighbor who is a corporate travel agent. Is this anything special. I am really escited but i doublt something like thois would just fall into my hands. By the way the "WHATS NEW, WHATS NEXT" sounds really interesting. Cant wai tto see what that id about. A ny information would be appreciated. Thanx

Maybe they'll finally announce the completion of the Legendary Years for Pop Century...that would be nice. Also, about the hours, I believe that EPCOT is closing at 3 on the 4th for the press event. The hours are on the WDW website, just take a look at EPCOT in May, and see exactly which day, but I'm pretty sure it was the 4th.

curses! why couldn't i have been productive and gotten a job in journalism like i planned so i could obtain a press pass and cover this event?! :hammer: its a shame i can't make it down there in May, i would love to see what kinds of craziness goes on during a press event...especially one for as big of a celebration as this one.

Definitely not.

I was just there last weekend and there was only one residential building up. It wasn't even decorated or anything. As a matter of fact, there weren't even people working on it.

I didn't mean that it was finished, but maybe they would announce that they were going to eventually finish it, and work would continue on it. Sorry about the confusion.

We will be there April 29th to May 3rd. By heading over to Vero Beach on May 3r to the 6th we are hopping to avoid most of the crowds. We were planning on going to a park for a few hours on the 6th, but not sure which one yet. Most likely Epcot or MK. However MK is busy on Fridays due to EMH am so I am not sure if we will do that. Depends on how much time we get in the parks the 1st part of the trip.

I could see mostly local stuff, but some big channels would cover some of it during that day. That would be my input. It is a big celebration.

I would expect at least Live with Regis and Kelly and ABC's Good Morning America to be there, since they are Disney properties and have participated in these types of events before, although they may actually be at the same event at Disneyland instead (since the event is actually acknowledging Disneyland's real 50th)...

Thankfully I will be gone before all this press events and closing early happens, I was afarid that it might mess up my trip, but it starts the day we leave.

I pass by every day and Ive not seen anyone working on the few buildings that are there in several months. Doesnt seem to be a priority, despite the fact that this Easter WDW was booked to capacity, or very near to it.

As Far as the "what's New; What's Next" press event I would not expect anything too major...I'm thinking we will hear the offical confirmation of the new pooh playground at MK...they will talk a little more about Everest. If history tells us anything...Construction usually is at least in it's early stages before Disney makes thier offical annoucement...

Right now..I'm not aware of any on-going construction at MGM...If the rumors are true about being 75% ready to go forward with Indy..I'm sure Disney would want to wait for the 100%...thier just doing it from MGM for the Grand opening of the new motor stunt show.
