A little after 8:00 PM on 12/30/04, my wife, 2-yr old daughter and I were waiting outside Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney for two other people to join us to go up to our seating time, when we experienced the following:

I was watching my two year old run around when I noticed a small group of people in suits approaching - OK some business men out to dinner. As they got closer, I noticed ear pieces on some of them - Disney security? It wasn't until they passed within about 10 ft. of me that I noticed it was President and Mrs. Bush, their daughters, and about 4 members of the Secret Service. My wife quickly grabbed my daughter to show her the President, as we followed the small group for about 50 ft. where they abruptly stopped near the water fountain and posed for a family photo for their press corps. We were at WDW celebrating my daughters birthday that week, and my wife asked me if I thought that the President would pose for a picture with my daughter for her birthday. I laughingly suggested she ask the nearest secret service agent, which she promptly did. Mrs. Bush overheard her request and said "sure". The only problem was that since we were just there for dinner and shopping, the only camera I had was my camera phone. Long story short - we got to meet the President and I got the picture of my wife, daughter and President and Mrs. Bush with the camera phone. As they were posing, someone in the crowd shouted for President Bush to "kiss the baby" to which he replied sure, then promptly kissed his wife:) They then headed off through the West Side area of Downtown Disney. Just un unreal right time/right place experience that added to the Disney magic of the week.

We have been trying to figure out what brought the first family to WDW? Does anyone know? Did anyone else see them anywhere else? Our guess was that they might be going to see Cirque or maybe something at the House of Blues? It must have been an unplanned/unpublished trip, because I have been looking at the internet today, and all news reports had the family spending the holidays at their ranch in Texas. I haven't checked to see what act might have been at the HOB that night. The other thought was that maybe the Bush twins were planning on attending the opening of Paris Hilton's nightclub in Orlando, and that is what brought them there.

Also, if anyone out there is a PhotoShop (or other digital photo program)wizard, I have a fairly dark and grainy camera phone picture that I would love someone to try to work some magic with. Send me a PM if you are willing to help a fellow Disney fan out with this magic memory, and I can get the file to you.

The Bush family frequents WDW and the Cruise line quite often. I guess they need a little bit of the magic every so often also.

I have heard of him being in the parks a few times...never seen him.

Mom always said if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I definitely think it is cool you saw President Bush and got to take a picture with him.

I also do not think this thread should turn political. It would be great if we could refrain from either praising or talking crap of the president. If you know you can't restrain yourself, perhaps reading this thread was not the best idea, let alone replying in it.

Wow!!!! That is absolutely amazing!!!! Talk about being in the right place at the right time to get that kind of a picture!!! I think President and Mrs. Bush were being good sports to stop and take a picture. That is great!! Another great Disney Moment for the archives!! Belle

Great story--this will be a fun one to tell your daughter over and over again when she's older. All politics aside, I am impressed with a president who is willing to stop and take an impromptu pic like that, especially when he's on vacation.

Am I the only one who doesn't think that the man in the picture looks like Mr. Bush? I suppose it is just the poor quality but, I just don't see it.

He must of just gotten a haircut because he looks well groomed. Plus it does kind of look like a Bush, without the wife thought I'd think it was an impersonator. BUT I believe you don't worry :).
