Present visible security measures in the parks

Let's just say there are security measures of different levels. I don't think anyone should be stating things that could be heard or viewed by unwanted ears. It's a serious issue and people probe for information in different ways. If you know something keep it to yourself.

I guess it does male sense spreading them out all over. I thought you had to go through them twice. If it's only once at the resort, then I am fine with that.

Moving them away from the front of MK was the best thing they have done for several reasons. Some are security related, but it helps the vistas and the crowds. It looks much better and seems much more like the MK we all (us old folks at least) remember from our youth. The long lines at the monorail resorts are annoying at times, but it makes it all worth it when you get off the monorail and walk straight to the ticket turnstile.

Considering the potential casualty rate if some nut job got into WDW I welcome the brief inconvenience of having bags and strollers checked. Whatever security measures WDW has in place we don't see let's hope it stays that way. Once in WDW I have never given a second thought about security, for me that's the way it should be. Keep up the good work Disney

It isn't still the hapharzed peek in the bag and inconsistent metal detector screening. Why they haven't adopted the methods of the other Orlando parks is still beyond me

Weird...They were better than the TSA on our recent trip.

They found my Fiancees small bottle of Rum, a package of hammerschlagen spikes and few other items that the TSA ignored, but are completely not allowed on planes/parks, but were in her bottomless purse.

Magic Kingdom was everyone goes through detectors and bag check. The other parks were all bags checked, but random detectors.

From what I've been told, WDW is one of the largest employers of former FBI and DHS employees...they walk around the park as normal "guests" just "observing"...you would never find out who they are...that's why I for one and my family feel 100% safe (or as safe as one can be in a mass public space) at WDW...besides, like I've said before, if I have to "go", I couldn't think of a better place to "check out" then at WDW!! lol
Last summer on our trip the security procedures had intensified and increased and we welcomed the extra scrutiny . We made it a point to thank those doing the security checks. We appreciated what is a rather thankless job.

was at epcot yesterday. just got through the bag check and i got out my video recorder to de-fog it before recording the walk up to spaceship earth. security woman runs over and flags down 2 other security ppl to ask what i was doing. i was like i'm trying to de-fog the recorder. they said it looked like i was recording the checkpoint. i didn't really know what to say to that other than something like well even if i was doing that, i'd get a nice video of fog. one of the security guys seemed kind of annoyed by it all and basically told the others to get back to work. it was an interesting encounter...

i don't thank them. it's a disaster. disney needs to do something about all of this. the lines are outrageous and i don't need some guy poking around my tiny camera bag for 2-3 min while guys in wheelchairs and kids in strollers get to sail through untouched.

I will say that I think they have improved greatly over the last year at the parks. There is another thread on here about amusement parks and escapism. Part of that escapism is knowing that you are and your family are as safe as can reasonably be assured. Because of my grown-up job I know a bit about this stuff, and I will say they have come leaps and bounds. Do they have some people who take themselves a little too seriously, sure. They also have some people who are a little too lax. There is a lot that goes into protecting places with as many daily visitors as WDW. We have had to deal with some guys on a real power kick, but I'm okay with that. I've also had to deal with some people who are miserable, but they have also had to deal with complaining guests all day in the FL heat.

Imagine the complaints if something were to happen, because Disney did not do all they could do to protect all of us.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.
WDW is a bit more subtle than DLP. ;)

I have noticed a great many camera's in WDW the last few trips, but I have no idea how many had been present before.
Is it the fellow in orange shorts in the background ?

Yes
I was last there before they moved the checkpoints to the resorts and it wasn't bad at all. I appreciated things like that. I live up the street from Martin Richard's family (Boston Marathon victim) and I was at a mall a few months ago where there was a shooting. So I would rather they do these "annoying" things than let someone walk in with a weapon or bomb.

However I DID get "randomly selected" for the metal detectors at every park because of my blue hair, which was a bit annoying. But what can ya do?

I agree. We were there in May and the bag check was much faster.

You are exactly right they also hire sheriffs on their off duty time to "play tourist " I know this to be a fact. I see a lot of backstage stuff that is comforting to know the extremes they go thru for security. It's very impressive and believe it or not there are a lot of steps that are taken when the park is closed. Someone is always watching and checking. And CM's are not exempt. We go thru many layers of security as well.

It is only once and the lines are minimal anytime I have gone through them, personally I thought this was a great idea and I applaud Disney for expanding the safe areas to include more public spaces. Marie
