I was just checking out wal mart's selection of Disney books and I stumbled across the Imagineering Field Guide to the Animal Kingdom, available for pre-order. It doesn't come out until June 30th, but hey--I put my pre-order in! I wonder why they did the Animal Kingdom before MGM? Interesting....

PS. Amazon has it for pre-order too, but wal mart is cheaper.

What's an imagineering field guide?
It is a pocket-sized book that is written by the Imagineers that explains the design of the theme parks and the attractions. 2 of them have been released (MK and Epcot) and they are really cool books. I am surprised that they are doing AK before MGM but thats ok.

Interesting fact. My Imagineer that I had "lunch with an Imagineer" with is the author of those books!!

Ah, yes - Alex Wright. Great guy, and a great guest for the Imagineer lunch.

I wondered, too, about the choice of AK instead of MGM. I wondered if it had something to do with waiting to see if the Studios change from MGM to Pixar. :lookaroun Seriously, though, I doubt that'd have an effect, since all MGM stuff in print is "Disney Studios" anyway due to the nature of the agreement. Maybe it's because there are apparently no major additions to AK in the pipeline (since Everest and Nemo are done), but we're still waiting on Midway Mania (or whatever) at MGM.

There is no release date for the MGM guide at this point. The only thing in the book order queus is for the Imagineering Field Guide to the American Kingdom to be released on or about June 1 ,2007.

That was the reasoning I was thinking too, and it makes sense. I could also imagine the MGM being the least interesting out of the four, but I hope I'm surprised when it does come out. It's just that there aren't that many little known facts out there for MGM....hopefully I'll learn a lot.

On that note, I cannot wait to read the AK one. Just think of all the rich history from Africa, and how themed and detailed that park is. IMHO, AK is the most themed park out of the four.

Only 6 more months to go! Lol...

MGM facts and trivia would win hands down over DAK; go back to the original architecture of Hollywood for example; every building was inspired by a real one. DAK will be long on atmosphere but short on attractions :D

Now you see, that I didn't know. I know obviously, the Chineese Theater was, but not all the buildings. Now that I think about it more, I hope they touch on the billboards in the MGM book. I love reading all of those. On a side note, I read somewhere that there is still a billboard for Blossom in the park, is it true, and if so, where is it?

Screamscape is reporting another round of discussions on what to call the Studios - and reporting the possibility that the name "Disney-Pixar Studios" may win out. Deferring publication of the Studios "Field Guide" when sequentially it should be next may indicate that in fact The Powers That Be aren't yet sure of the final name.

I have the MK and Epcot field guides and I think they are both great. Lots of cool stuff in them. If you like the field guides you might want to pick up the full size book. I'm having trouble coming up with the title right now (Imagineering something or other) but it has a picture of Sorcerer Mickey on it. It's another very interesting book.

You mean Walt Disney Imagineering - a behind the dreams look at making the magic real? A great book, but not the same as the guides - more a look at the design of all the parks and how the attractions work.
